These are two delightful books of the"Wayfarer Series," beautifully got up, andany adult visiting these countries could notdo better than take these well written super-guide books with them. Apart from theiruse when travelling, they are most excellentfire-side friends, because they give somevivid word pictures of the countries con-cerned.

34 THE AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHER

VI. The British Empire and NorthAmerica. 226 pp.

VII. Europe, Africa, and SouthAmerica. 226 pp.

VIII. Asia, Australasia, and the Is-lands of the Pacific. 218 pp.

Melbourne, The Speciality Press Pty.,Ltd., 1934.

These Modern World Geographies arein large type, on art paper, and almostevery page has a photograph. There arealso many sketches. The earlier gradesseem very suitable as interesting readersfor children, but the higher grades, we areof the opinion, contain too much of whatcould be termed sociology, or even generalknowledge. While most of the material isup-to-date, there is a considerable amountof out-of-date material, even on Australia. At the same time, they make most excellentreaders.

The Conquest Geographies. By V. C.Spary. Illustrated with maps and diagrams.Book one. Far Off Lands in the New

World. 104 pp. Price in cloth boardsr/8, in limp cloth 1/5.

Book two. Far Off Lands in the OldWorld. 120 pp. Price in cloth boards1/10, in limp cloth 1/7.

Book three. Journeys Round the World.160 pp. Price in cloth boards 2/-, inlimp cloth 1/9.

Book four. Our Homelands and OurNeighbours. 192 pp. Price in clothboards 2/3, in limp cloth 2/-.

London, McDougall's Educational Co., Ltd.,1934-

McDougall's Conquest Geograplties arefor young people. These books containmany photographs, several coloured platesand are in very large type. They are amixture of geography and sociology, verysuitable as readers in the junior school. There is no doubt that geography is beingmade very palatable to young people, whichprobably is a step in the right direction.

Philip's New Prospect Readers. LifeOverseas—Newfoundland. Gilmour andYoung. 72 pages, with illustrations. Geo.B. Philip and Son, Ltd., London, 1935.

This is a delightful little book aboutNewfoundland, and is well worth the fewpence asked for it.
