The Bryan University esteemed Board of Advisors guides the design and

development of our program offerings. Comprised of the field’s leading

experts, the Board also helps us shape and realize our University-wide vision.

With their direction and support, we ensure that all of our students get the

Ronald E. Bachman has been at the center of U.S. healthcare transformation, advancing consumer-based

solutions to lower the number of uninsureds, improve mental health coverage, develop the concept of consumer-

centric Medicare and Medicaid, and advance employer introductions of healthcare consumerism. Over the years,

Mr. Bachman has consulted with various government agencies on national health issues and legislative

and regulatory proposals. He has worked on special projects with the Center for Health Transformation

(CHT) and Speaker Gingrich on health policy issues and market transformation ideas. He also worked

closely with the Bush White House and Treasury on the language and principles of the 2002 Health

Reimbursement Arrangement guidelines, and through CHT to provide policy input on Health Savings

Accounts. Working across the political aisle, Ron has worked with the Carter Center, Senator Kennedy,

and Senator Wellstone on mental health issues. He has testified in over 30 states and before Congress in

support of mental health parity.

Formerly, Mr. Bachman was a Principal with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he consulted to a

broad range of clients including employers, HMOs, hospitals, physicians, indemnity carriers, BlueCross/

BlueShield plans, and State and Federal Agency clients.

As an actuary, he has extensive experience in healthcare strategy for payers, providers, and employers. He

has served as a designated expert on actuarial issues to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services,

the Congressional Budget Office, the Department of Labor, the National Institute of Mental Health, the

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and several members of Congress.

Currently, he is the President and CEO of Healthcare Visions, a thought leadership firm dedicated to advancing

ideas and policy initiatives that are impacting the U.S. health care market. Mr. Bachman is also a Senior Fellow

of the Center for Health Transformation, the National center for Policy Analysis, the Wye River Group

on Health, and the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.

Mark Blatt, MD

Worldwide Medical Director, Intel CorporationHealth Informatics Board Member, Bryan University

Dr. Blatt joined Intel’s New Business Group in the summer of 2000. He is currently Worldwide Medical

Director in the Sales and Marketing Group. In this role, he is concentrating on how HIT infrastructure

can enable providers to deliver cost-effective, quality care to a wide cohort of citizens. He has a particular

interest in Mobile Point-of-Care, Cloud Computing, Security, and Care Delivery reform.

Prior to this, Dr. Blatt served for three years as Manager for Worldwide Healthcare Strategies in the Sales

and Marketing Group. During this time, he played a key role in formulating Intel’s Integrated Digital

Hospital vision. This vision has gained significant momentum and mindshare with Intel’s healthcare

customers, fellow travelers, and industry thought leaders worldwide.

From 2005-2007, he was the Director for Global Healthcare Strategies in the Digital Health Group.

During this time, he helped design Intel’s Payor and Pharma strategy and worked with the team that

brought Intel’s Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) computing platform to market. Dr. Blatt received the

Intel Achievement Award, Intel’s highest honor, in 2007 for the MCA design.

During 2008-2009, in the area of care delivery reform, Dr. Blatt worked with an Intel-developed Personal

Health IT system designed to assist with care delivery outside the hospital. Dr. Blatt has worked with care

delivery systems in many countries including the UK, China, Mexico, Australia and the USA to enable

cost-effective, sustainable systems that will allow clinicians to provide “virtual care” to patients in settings

as diverse as rural remote clinics or the patient’s home.

Prior to joining Intel, he was the managing partner of a five-provider group in Family Practice. He

practiced family medicine for 15 years before returning to Yale University to earn his MBA (2000) in

finance. Dr. Blatt earned his medical doctorate at Albany Medical College of Union University (1979).

He completed a residency in Family Practice at the University of Connecticut (1982). He then served two

years as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service before starting private practice. He has

also worked on a variety of health-related Internet business efforts including an early platform in 2001 to

deliver home-based medical care.

He is a member of the IEEE Medical Technology Policy Committee and the American Telemedicine

Association, and a board member for the Center for Improving Medication Management. He is a lifetime

member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomat of the American Board of Family

Practice (1982-2010).

Mr. Cohen has more than 30 years of management, legal, corporate executive and general counsel

experience. He has served as General Counsel at Ohio Power and Columbus Southern Power Companies,

Senior Director of Corporate Legal Markets and Strategic Alliances/Licensing at Lexis-Nexis, Vice

President at Lexford Residential Trust, Deputy Law Director for the City of Cuyahoga Falls, and Assistant

Law Director for the City of Akron. Mr. Cohen has also served as Senior Vice President and managing

director of Legal Services for a large legal services organization focusing on complex litigation matters

and bankruptcies, and served as COO of Integrex Professional Claims Services where he was responsible

for operations, IT, sales, and marketing. Currently, he leads RenewData’s external activities and client

advisory service functions.

Mr. Cohen also serves on the Strategic Advisory Board for Trustifi Corporation, a provider of digital content

authentication solutions, and has served as the President of the American Corporate Counsel Association

in Ohio, Editor-in-Chief of the Electricity Journal, and former Editor of the Energy Information Bulletin.

His prestigious memberships include the American and Ohio State Bar Associations, the ABA Class

Actions/Derivative Suits Subcommittee, the Corporate Counsel Advisory Board for The Metropolitan

Corporate Counsel, former Chair of the American Bar Association’s Coordinating Group on Energy

Law and the Ohio Electric Utility Legal Committee, and a former Co-chair of the American Bankruptcy

Institute’s Mass Torts Subcommittee. Mr. Cohen is a recipient of the Distinguished Legal Service Award

conferred by Corporate Legal Times.

Mr. Cohen holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a juris doctor

from the University of Akron School of Law.

Throughout his career, Scott Cohen has worked in a consultative capacity with law firms and corporate

legal departments enabling them to effectively leverage technology in all legal practice areas. With a

focus on electronic discovery, records management, and litigation readiness, he advises firm lawyers and

clients on a wide variety of technical issues relating to discovery in complex litigation. Prior to joining

Winston & Strawn, Mr. Cohen was the Practice Support Director for Proskauer Rose LLP, where he was

responsible for the development and operation of the firm’s practice support department. Mr. Cohen also

served as the Director of Information Technology for MetLife, where he was responsible for providing

general technology and litigation support services to the corporation’s large and geographically dispersed

legal, records and internal audit departments.

As the Director of E-Discovery Support Services at Winston & Strawn LLP, Mr. Cohen is responsible for

all aspects of the firm’s litigation support technology, electronic discovery operations, and document review

center management. He is a frequent writer and speaker on a variety of topics ranging from electronic

discovery best practices and legal cost control, to leadership development, performance management, and

staff mentoring in legal organizations.

Mr. Cohen is a member of The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Document Retention

and Production and an Executive Board Member of the East Coast Association of Litigation Support

Managers. He is also an active member of the International Legal Technology Association Practice

& Litigation Support peer group, the Association for Information and Image Management, and the

American Records Management Association.

Mark Dente, MDChief Medical Officer, GE Healthcare ITHealth Informatics Board Member, Bryan University

Dr. Mark Dente started his informatics career over 19 years ago after graduating from Boston University

School of Medicine. He focused on new approaches to increase patient safety, drive physician adoption of

technology, and create new methods to implement evidence-based medicine.

Prior to joining GE Healthcare, Dr. Dente served as President of MBS Service Inc., a consulting company

providing international executive healthcare management services. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice

President and Chief Medical Officer for Wang Healthcare Information Systems, and led the design of an

ambulatory electronic medical record.

In his former role as Chief Medical Informatics Officer for GE Healthcare Information Technology,

his responsibilities included applying domain expertise in informatics to drive comparative effectiveness

research, strategic evaluation of emerging technologies for the healthcare portfolio, as well as developing and

delivering GE’s clinical informatics research direction and messaging globally. Additional responsibilities

included clinical liaison for GE’s standards based interoperability strategies, knowledge management and

evidence-based medicine, and secondary use of clinical data programs.

As Chief Medical Officer for GE Healthcare Information Technology, Dr. Dente’s responsibilities include

leading the organization’s clinical and informatics strategy, representing GE on government, health

ministries, medical societies and advocacy committees and task forces, evaluating and executing on

strategic corporate, industry and research objectives, and supporting GE’s Healthcare IT regulatory needs.

Dr. Dente also serves as the lead physician executive for GE Healthcare IT. In this role, Dr. Dente’s

responsibilities include developing strategic innovation programs while working closely with academic,

government, and industry leaders in identifying government and industry research opportunities. He

has co-authored numerous articles and policy papers and is currently serving on the Advisory Council to

HL7 Board of Directors, as well as the Medical & Scientific Board for the Alzheimer Association N.E.

He is also passionate about driving GE’s Translational Personalized Medicine initiative at the national and

international level.

Ian Duncan, FSA, FIA, FCIA, MAAA

Vice President, Clinical Outcomes & Analytics, Walgreen Co.Founder, Solucia ConsultingHealth Informatics Board Member & Professor, Bryan University

In 1998, Ian Duncan founded Solucia Consulting, from which he is now retired. Solucia is based in

Hartford, Connecticut, and provides analytical data, predictive modeling, and consulting services to the

healthcare financing industry. He has over 30 years of experience in healthcare and insurance product

design, management, financing, pricing, and delivery. Mr. Duncan currently serves as Vice President of

Clinical Outcomes (Research) at the Walgreen Company in Chicago.

Academically, Mr. Duncan serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at Georgetown University where he is

leading a multi-year project to evaluate the financial outcomes of Massachusetts Healthcare Reform, and

he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Statistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mr Duncan

is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, the Institute of Actuaries in London, and the Canadian Institute of

Actuaries. He is active in public policy and healthcare reform, and serves on the board of directors of the

Commonwealth of Massachusetts Health Insurance Connector Authority. He is the author of 25 peer-

reviewed papers, several book chapters, and three books. His books include: Managing and Evaluating

Healthcare Intervention Programs (2008) and Healthcare Predictive Modeling and Risk Adjustment (2011).

Mr. Duncan holds a post-graduate degree in economics from Balliol College, Oxford.

Cris V. Ewell, Ph.D.Chief Information Security Officer, Seattle Children’sHealth Informatics Board Member & Professor, Bryan University

Dr. Ewell is the Chief Information Security Officer at Seattle Children’s, a $1.26 billion not-for-profit

pediatric hospital, academic medical center, and research institute. Supporting children and families

across Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, Seattle Children’s has an academic relationship with

the University of Washington’s School of Medicine and provides advanced cancer treatments through the

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

As the senior leader in the Information Security program, Dr. Ewell has full strategic and operational

oversight for building and managing the security framework, teams, programs, and policies to decrease

exposure, drive awareness, and minimize risk for the organization. Along with Seattle Children’s, he has

worked with several other organizations to help them implement risk management practices to address

information security risks and to promote meaningful dialogue about the information security program

with executive management and board members. Prior to joining Seattle Children’s, he served as the

Director of Information Security Operations at the University of Washington, Chief Security Officer for

PEMCO Corporation, and Chief Technology Officer for Breakwater Security.

Dr. Ewell is a Certified Information Security Professional, Certified Information Security Manager, and

is a member of IEEE, ACM, AHIMA, and several local information security organizations. Dr. Ewell

also serves as an Adjunct Professor for Norwich University, and is a guest lecturer at the University of

Washington. His current research areas include information security risk management and intrusion

detection.

Dr. Ewell has a bachelor’s and master’s in Information Technology and a Ph.D. in Computer Information

Systems with a concentration in Information Security.

Kevin M. Fickenscher serves as the President and CEO of AMIA, the association of professionals involved

in transforming healthcare by creating knowledge from data and information that increases quality,

reduces costs, and enhances services. Dr. Fickenscher is passionate about the urgent need for solving our

nation’s healthcare problems and believes that the use of biomedical and health informatics can distill

information for solving quality, cost, and service issues.

Dr. Fickenscher has served in several administrative healthcare leadership roles as Senior Vice President

and Chief Medical Officer for two of the premier integrated healthcare systems in the nation, Aurora

Health Care and Catholic Healthcare West. He first moved into the information technology world as the

Chief Medical Officer at WebMD, then as Director of Clinical Transformation at Computer Sciences

Corporation (CSC).

Before joining AMIA in 2012, he served in a variety of domestic and international positions for Dell

Healthcare Services, primarily through the company’s acquisition of Perot Systems where Dr. Fickenscher

served as the Chief Medical Officer and leader of the Healthcare Information Technology consulting

practice. He led the organization’s International Healthcare practice and extended operations into the

Middle East, India, China, and Latin America.

Dr. Fickenscher served as the Health Advisor to the Biden for President Campaign in 1988, and he served

as a member of the Clinton Healthcare Task Force in 1992. Since 1988, he has been an Associate of the

American College of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Physician Executive, a Fellow with the American

College of Physician Executives, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has served

as a Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Management since 1992. He was one of Modern Healthcare

magazine’s 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare in 2007 and recognized as an Emerging

Healthcare Leader in 1991 by The Healthcare Forum, Korn/Ferry International. Dr. Fickenscher was also a

Regional White House Fellow finalist in 1984 and a Kellogg National Fellow in 1985.

Dr. Fickenscher graduated from the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences

in 1978 and trained as a family physician. He obtained his Family Practice Board Certification in 1982.

He is a father of three, an avid gourmet cook, and an enthusiastic golfer.

Dr. Steven R. Gerst is Vice President of Medical Affairs for MedCurrent Corporation, one of the leading

clinical decision software companies in the nation. He began his career as a Senior Consultant for what

is now Premier, Inc., serving 2,400 hospitals nationally. He currently consults with a variety of leading

national health care information technology companies around Accountable Care Organizations and

Electronic Medical Record systems with clients that include Cleveland Clinic, Tenet Hospitals, Sutter

Health, and over 100 IPA, MSO, ACO and Medicare Advantage plans providing services to more than

20 million patients nationally and internationally.

Prior to joining MedCurrent, Dr. Gerst was Vice President of VISTA Health Plan in Hollywood, Florida,

(a $1.2 billion HMO, the largest in South Florida), Regional Medical Director and Senior Consultant for

what is now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and President and CEO of the PPO Division of Columbia/

HCA – The Healthcare Corporation under Florida’s current Governor Rick Scott. He is also former

President of the International Medical Travel Association of the Americas, which was sponsored by the

Singapore National Government. Prior to that, Dr. Gerst was Assistant Vice President of Crawford &

Company, where he built the first national PPO for workers compensation and group health for AIG and

other Crawford clients.

Dr. Gerst is a graduate of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, earned his

undergraduate and master’s degree in Public Health and Hospital Administration from Columbia, his

MBA from the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University in Atlanta, and is completing a doctorate

in Finance and a master’s in Taxation at Nova Southeastern University. He has also recently completed

courses at the Harvard Business School, Law School and School of Public Health. Dr. Gerst is a Diplomat

in the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses for healthcare

investment banking and is preparing for his Series 79.

William Hamilton is board certified in business litigation and intellectual property by the Florida Bar.

His work includes complex business litigation in the areas of contract, software and technology disputes,

intellectual property, e-commerce, data security, telecommunications, trade regulation, unfair trade

practices, and internal investigations. Mr. Hamilton is also a neutral, arbitrator, and mediator for the

World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Trademark Association, and the American

Arbitration Association. He has been honored by inclusion in Best Lawyers in America®, Chambers USA®,

Florida Legal Elite®, and Florida Super Lawyers®. He is also a Litigation Counsel of America® Fellow and

a Fellow of the Florida Bar.

Mr. Hamilton has been a pioneer in e-Discovery education, having taught e-Discovery and evidence

at law schools, judicial conferences, and American Arbitration Association University. He is a featured

speaker and writer on electronic discovery and evidence, and his e-Discovery articles have appeared in

numerous journals including the ABA Family Advocate®, the ABA Litigation Magazine®, and on Quarles

& Brady’s e-Discovery blog, E-Discovery Bytes. Mr. Hamilton is the co-author of the LexisNexis Practice

Guide Florida E-Discovery and Evidence.

Mr. Hamilton is currently the Chair of Quarles & Brady’s e-Discovery practice where he works closely

with the firm’s e-Discovery litigation support team on a wide variety of electronic discovery projects. He

is a member of The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Discovery and is also a member

of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model®.

Mr. Hamilton received his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,

and a master’s degree in Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his

juris doctor cum laude from the University of Florida College of Law where he wrote for the Law Review.

Ehab Hanna, MD, FHM

Dr. Ehab Hanna is the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Universal Health Services

Inc. (UHS), a Fortune 500 company which owns and operates 231 acute care hospitals, behavioral health

facilities, and ambulatory centers nationwide with more than 65,000 employees. It is one of the nation’s

largest healthcare management companies.

In 2002, Dr. Hanna joined Eastern Maine Medical Center, a leading Pioneer Accountable Care

Organization, as a Hospitalist. In 2005, he became Assistant Chief Medical Informatics Officer, where

he co-led the successful implementation of the Medical Center’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and

Computerized Physician Order Entry system, winning the prestigious 2007 Davies Award for his work.

In 2011, Dr. Hanna joined UHS as the Corporate Medical Director for Clinical Content and was rapidly

promoted to Associate CMIO, co-leading UHS’s Cerner EMR roll-out to its 24 acute care facilities. Dr.

Hanna successfully completed the AMIA’s 10x10 informatics program as well as the Advisory Board

Healthcare Leadership Academy. His interests include: the optimal use of technology to improve efficiency,

safety, and quality; utilizing decision support to improve care; understanding human factors as they relate

to user interface and change management; promoting better healthcare policy and leadership.

Dr. Hanna is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and completed his residence at a Tufts University

Hospital. He did both an externship and clinical research in Cardiology and Emergency Medicine at

Massachusetts General Hospital.

Marie F. Hatam, MD, MBA

Orthopaedic Surgeon & Occupational Medicine PhysicianSenior Advisor to the Department of Health Informatics, Bryan University

Dr. Marie F. Hatam is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 30 years clinical experience as

a practicing surgeon and occupational medicine physician. She is certified by the American Board of

Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.

Additionally, Dr. Hatam has over 15 years of experience as a Medical Director and Executive in healthcare

insurance, including indemnity and managed care lines of business (HMO, PPO, Medicare and Medicaid),

as well as workers’ compensation and disability insurance. Dr. Hatam created and managed a medical policy

department for a large health insurance company and served on the National Accounts Medical Policy

Committee for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association where she collaborated in the development of

national medical policies.

She received her undergraduate degree from Vassar College, her Medical Degree from the Weill Cornell

Medical College, and her MBA from Drexel University’s Le Bow College of Business.

Joseph M. Heyman, MD

Dr. Joseph M. Heyman currently serves as Chair of the National Physician Advisory Board of OptumInsight,

previously Ingenix. OptumInsight delivers technology, health information, consulting, and outsourcing

solutions.

From 1968 to 1970, Dr. Heyman served as General Medical Officer at the United States Public Health

Service Northern Navajo Indian Hospital. In 1984, he founded a very successful IPA and served as its first

president for twelve years, and still serves on its board. Dr. Heyman is a former Chair of the American

Medical Association Board of Trustees, and was honored to serve as a President of the Massachusetts

Medical Society. He has served on the boards of the Whittier IPA, the Lower Merrimac Valley PHO,

the Wellport Health Information Exchange, the Tufts Associated Health Plans, the Essex North District

Medical Society, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the board of its foundation, the American

Medical Association Foundation, the World Medical Association Council, the Joint Commission, and

Joint Commission Resources/International.

Dr. Heyman is a long-standing member of the Steering Committee of Markle Foundation’s Connecting

for Health. He also served on the Practicing Physician’s Advisory Council to the Department of Health

and Human Services during both the Clinton and Bush administrations.

Dr. Heyman has been in the continuous private practice of obstetrics and gynecology since 1973 in

Massachusetts’ Merrimac Valley. Since 2001, he has been in a solo paperless gynecology practice, making

him the first in his medical community with an electronic medical record.

As a co-chair of the eHealth Initiative Care Coordination Council and the Office of the National

Coordinator Policy Committee Adoption/Certification and Implementation Workgroups, he has been

involved in equipping his entire medical community with electronic medical records, meaningful use

attestations, and a community-wide health information exchange.

Kari Holloway, MBA

Vice President, Business Strategy and Development, McKesson CorporationSenior Advisor to the Department of Health Informatics & Professor, Bryan University

Kari Holloway has spent the last decade in the evolutionary market of healthcare IT. Her background

is in strategic and tactical approaches to connecting healthcare constituents with solutions that improve

care delivery and outcomes. Her current position is Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business

Development with McKesson. In this role, Ms. Holloway is responsible for developing and driving growth

strategies throughout the healthcare continuum.

Ms. Holloway began her healthcare career as an office manager in a provider’s office. Through this

experience, she gained the knowledge to connect the power of software with the needs of a physician. Ms.

Holloway and teams under her leadership at General Electric and McKesson were consistently ranked

among the top in sales performance.

Prior to her current position, Ms. Holloway held leadership positions at McKesson and General Electric

in sales and strategic marketing. In these roles, she led sales teams as well as initiatives such as new product

introductions, commercial strategies, and customer advisory boards.

Ms. Holloway holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Rockhurst University. She is also a

Ph.D. candidate in the field of Business Administration, with a specialization in leadership. Her interests

include the areas of leadership, business culture, and educating children in leadership principles. Ms.

Holloway is a member of the Academy of Management and the International Leadership Association.

Carl Erwin Johnson, MD, MEd, MSc, FAAP

Physician Executive Cerner Lighthouse, Cerner CorporationSenior Advisor to the Department of Health Informatics & Professor, Bryan University

Dr. Carl Erwin Johnson serves as a Senior Consultant with Healthcare Clinical Informatics (HCI)

Consulting Group working with multidisciplinary teams to implement, optimize, and sustain CPOE in

Tenet Healthcare hospitals throughout the US.

Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New

York City and there received the Lester Tuchman Award for Compassion and Skill in Clinical Medicine.

Dr. Johnson completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital Boston.

He was one of the first physicians to complete a Medical Education Fellowship at Harvard Medical

School under the tutelage of Dr. Daniel Federman, Dr. LuAnn Wilkerson, and Dr. Janet Hafler. He also

completed a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at The Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Johnson

earned his Master in Education (MEd) from The Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Master

of Science (MSc) in Clinical Research from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine/New York University.

Dr. Johnson has served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, Assistant Professor at The University

of California at San Francisco and Ohio State University, and Associate Professor at The Mount Sinai

School of Medicine. Throughout his academic career, he has focused on patient care in underserved

communities, teaching pediatric residents and medical students, faculty development and health services

research in quality improvement in inner city pediatric asthma. He has participated in the Healthcare

Improvement Leadership Symposium at Dartmouth Medical School and the Ambulatory Pediatric

Association National Faculty Development Scholars Program.

While a faculty member at Ohio State University, Dr. Johnson participated in a faculty symposium led

by the Nobel Laureate in Physics, Dr. Ken Wilson, and Dr. Constance Barsky, to develop practitioners of

professions to be educators in their professions. Dr. Johnson has received a civic citation for community

service in New York City from the New York City City Council and the Hon. Philip Reed, and a U.S.

Congressional citation for community service from the Hon. Charles Rangel. Dr. Johnson left academia

in 2007 to join the healthcare information technology industry as a healthcare executive with Cerner

Corporation.

Dr. Johnson is a native of Dayton, Ohio and graduate of Loudon High School in Loudon, Tennessee.

He earned a bachelor’s in Chemistry from The Ohio State University where he was a recipient of an Ohio

Stadium Dormitory Scholarship, the McNavin Scholarship in Chemistry, the Charles Drew Memorial

Prize, and a varsity letter in Men’s Gymnastics. Dr. Johnson lives in New York City and enjoys photography

learning French, and Ohio State football and basketball.

Mr. Laferriere is a 23 year veteran of the health and fitness industry. He’s held a multitude of positions

and responsibilities during that time including President, Chief Operating Officer, and Senior VP of

Sales, Operations, and Fitness Services with Lifestyle Family Fitness. Lifestyle was ranked by IHRSA

magazine as a top ten health club chain in the industry. He was a Managing Partner and Co-Owner of

the Gold’s Gym St. Petersburg/ Bradenton, Florida franchise. He currently serves as CEO and Board

Member for FitPro LLC.

He holds and associate degree from St. Petersburg College, a bachelor’s degree in biology from the

University of South Florida, and has completed graduate courses in business. He’s been a student of

the industry, including holding up to 36 fitness certifications. He served on the original committee for

creating the NCCA personal training standards with IHRSA and a founder of the IFL Round Table

(credited as being the 12 top fitness directors in the world). He’s been featured in numerous magazine

Cecil A. Lynn has worked as General Counsel for an international apparel company which gave him an

understanding of the corporate law environment. Prior to working in-house, he litigated several civil and

criminal cases while working at two prestigious California-based law firms. In addition, he served as a trial

attorney for the Civil Rights Division, Criminal Section of the United States Department of Justice, and

he served as a special prosecutor for the National Church Arson Task Force.

Mr. Lynn is a highly-regarded thought leader in the area of electronic discovery. He speaks and publishes

on a wide variety of e-Discovery topics including data retention, data collection, document review, data

accessibility, and international e-Discovery. Mr. Lynn has also taught an e-Discovery certification program

at California State University at Fullerton, and is a former adjunct professor at Loyola Law School in Los

Browning E. Marean is an internationally known teacher on various topics including electronic discovery,

international discovery, records retention, knowledge management, and computer technology. He also

frequently lectures on such topics as computer technology and its application to efficient practice and

matter management, risk and decision analysis, legal ethics issues, director and officer liability, emerging

securities fraud developments, knowledge management, and the selection and use of expert witnesses.

In 1969, Mr. Marean joined DLA Piper, then Gray Cary Ames & Frye. He is now a Senior Counsel in

DLA Piper’s San Diego office and concentrates his practice in the areas of electronic discovery, professional

responsibility, and knowledge management. In addition, he is a member of DLA Piper’s Technology

Helen Bergman Moure served as a commercial litigator in federal and state court for more than 17 years.

Since 1999, she has devoted her practice to the delivery of efficient and cost-effective e-Discovery and

document review services to a wide range of clients, from sole entrepreneurs, to Fortune 100 corporations.

A former partner at K&L Gates in Seattle, she was one of the founding members of the firm’s e-Discovery

Analysis and Technology (e-DAT) Group and was involved in the development of the Patterns document

review software created by Attenex, now owned by FTI. Ms. Moure has many years of experience structuring

and supervising projects involving all aspects of the discovery process, from custodian identification and

retention, to collection, processing, and review, to post-production litigation support. A frequent advisor

to public and private organizations, she also assists in designing and implementing document retention

systems and advising on litigation readiness.

Ms. Moure is a frequent speaker on e-Discovery and related issues and a longtime, active participant

in The Sedona Conference®. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Association of Certified

Dera J. Nevin leads the Toronto-Dominion Bank of Companies global e-Discovery initiative. Prior to

joining the Bank, Ms. Nevin served as the Senior Director of Litigation Support Services at McCarthy

Tétrault LLP. She is responsible for administering all e-Discovery and electronic evidence management

initiatives across the firm. Ms. Nevin is a practicing lawyer as well as counsel to the firm and its clients on

matters of e-Discovery, electronic evidence law and procedure and associated privacy law, international

law relating to the production and exchange of evidence, and local documentary production requirements.

She also advises on matters associated with the forensic capture or collection, and use in proceedings, of

electronic evidence, including the requirements for obtaining and executing Anton Pillar Orders.

Ms. Nevin has extensive project management experience in electronic document review initiatives, and

she has supervised extensive review projects, including those occurring in multiple jurisdictions. She

is proficient in numerous electronic data collection techniques and with multiple electronic evidence

management and review tools. Ms. Nevin is responsible for coordinating electronic evidence consulting

Ms. Nevin is a member of the Sedona Canada WG7, the OBA’s E-Discovery Implementation Committee,

the Toronto Chapter of Women in e-Discovery, and she is a participant in the Electronic Discovery

Reference Model®. She has spoken on a variety of topics relating to electronic evidence management

including document review and production, large team coordination, international transmission of data,

and the law of privilege and privacy in the management and exchange of electronic records. Her written

Michael I. Quartararo began his career as a paralegal at large New York City law firms working in the general litigation, white collar, antitrust, and intellectual property practice areas.

Mr. Quartararo worked for nearly ten years in the Litigation and Legal Technology Departments at the New York office of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, an unparalleled training ground on the cutting edge of electronic discovery and legal project management. There he managed large-scale class action and securities litigations, international litigation, and complex technology projects involving computer forensics, all aspects of electronic discovery, trial preparation, and trial presentation. Mr. Quartararo became one of the chief promoters of, and trainers in, the use of technology in the practice of law. He traveled to regional offices to implement and integrate best practices in the preservation, collection, review, and production phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM)®. In 2007, he oversaw the Legal Technology Department in Skadden’s Los Angeles office where he led an expansion in their use of technology in litigation.

In 2008, Mr. Quartararo joined Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP as their Manager of Litigation Support to build their Litigation Support Department into a center for excellence and professionalism. The services of the department span the EDRM and involve multiple practice areas including General Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Financial Restructuring. At Stroock, he introduced traditional project management principles and standardized work-flow processes for all phases of electronic discovery. Denise J. Talbert has over 16 years of experience in cost-effective discovery management in complex

this capacity, Ms. Talbert has represented business interests in the chemical, communications, insurance,

pharmaceutical, retail, tobacco, and transportation industries. She is a partner with Shook, Hardy &

Bacon LLP where she chairs the e-Discovery, Data & Document Management Practice (eD3) and is

a member of the Global Product Liability Group and Business Records Management & Consultation

Practice.

Ms. Talbert has published materials on e-Discovery law in Bloomberg Law Quarterly and other national

Andrew M. Wiesenthal, MD, MSDirector, Deloitte Consulting LLCHealth Informatics Board Member, Bryan University

Dr. Andrew M. Wiesenthal has been with Deloitte since May 2010. Since joining Deloitte, he has been

a leader on numerous clinical information system projects, as well as health care delivery system strategy

and improvement projects. He is a widely recognized health information technology leader.

From April 2000 until joining Deloitte, he was Associate Executive Director of the Permanente Federation.

There, his work was in the arenas of development and deployment of automated medical records, decision

support, and other clinical systems for all of Kaiser Permanente. From 1983 until April 2000, Dr. Wiesenthal

served as a Pediatrician and Pediatric Infectious Diseases Consultant with the Colorado Permanente

Medical Group (CPMG). He also led CPMG’s quality management program and served as Associate

Medical Director for Medical Management, with responsibility for quality management, utilization

management, regulatory compliance, risk management, credentialing and physician performance, and

informatics. Most notably, he was the National Physician Leader for the Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect

electronic health record project from its inception through its successful conclusion in 2010.

Dr. Wiesenthal received a bachelor’s degree with honors in Latin American Studies from Yale University

in 1971, and received his MD in 1975 from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center

in Brooklyn. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Colorado in 1978, then served

as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control from 1978-80 before

returning to the University of Colorado for a pediatric infectious disease fellowship, completed in 1983.

In 2004, Dr. Wiesenthal earned a master’s degree in Health Care Management from the Harvard School

of Public Health. He is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases.
