BMX began in the early 1970’s in California

BMX racing became widely popular by the mid 1970’s

By the mid 1980’s people began to start riding

freestyle BMX

In 2003 the International Olympic Committee

decided to include BMX as an official event at the

2008 Olympics.

The first ever BMX publication was “Bicycle

Motocross News” in 1974

There are many different BMX competitions around including some such as:

Simple Session - The X Games – NASS – FISE - Dew Tour

These competitions take place at numerous locations from across the globe where thousands of people attend.

Numerous athletes compete in these competitions for winnings worth thousands.

BMX IN THE OLYMPICSBMX IN THE OLYMPICS

The International Olympic Committee decided that BMX will become a full medal Olympic sport in 2003.

BMX’s first Olympic appearance was at the 2008 Beijing Olymic Games.

Maris Strombergs from Latvia was the winner of the Mens Gold Medal in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games

 Mariana Pajón of Columbia won the Gold medal in the 2012 London Games.

FREESTYLE BMXFREESTYLE BMXFreestyle BMX descended from BMX racing and it consists of five disciplines: street, park, vert, trails and flatland. Freestyle BMX is what most BMX contests are now.

Freestyle BMX can be traced back to 1975 when kids started riding bikes in concrete Escondido reservoir channels in San Diego, California.

Towards the end of 1979, Bob Haro and R.L. Osborn formed the BMX Action Trick Team and later began performing freestyle shows at BMX races and other events.
