Technology :7 SRS airbags are standard on all models: driver’s, front passenger, driver’s knee, side and curtain airbags. An additional 2 rear-side airbags can be selected as an option (with Crew Protection Assistant).

This Crew Protection Assistant identifies, using electronic and braking data, a high risk of imminent collision and will pre-tension the front seatbelts and partially close the windows and sunroof to help protect the occupants. (Option on all 3 trim levels).

All models have ESC as standard, together with ABS and EBD (Brake-force distribution) to prevent wheels locking up, Engine Torque Control (MSR) system to prevent wheel spin and Prefill that recognises the driver lifting off the accelerator abruptly, which may precede sudden emergency braking and pre-pressures the braking system as a precaution.

Front Assistant (standard on Elegance from May/June 2013) uses a grille-mounted radar to continuously monitor the vehicle ahead. If it detects a risk of collision it will audibly and visually alert the driver, then in the next stage will give a warning jolt of the brake pedal. If the driver still fails to react the system will initiate braking autonomously. This system can be switched off by the driver. At speeds of 3 to 18mph the system combines with City Emergency Braking (AEB) to autonomously brake the vehicle should the driver fail to react.

Adaptive Cruise Control uses the same radar to maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead, with the vehicle braking and accelerating as required. If heavier deceleration is required the Front Assistant system takes over to stop the car fully.

BASED ON THE MODULAR MQB PLATFORM KIT, THE NEW OCTAVIA IS LONGER (90MM)

AND WIDER (45MM) WITH A LONGER WHEELBASE (108MM) THAN ITS PREDECESSOR,

YET WEIGHS 102KG LESS DUE TO INCREASED INCLUSION OF HSS AND UHSS. THIS

INCLUDES PRESS-HARDENED STEEL FOR THE TRANSMISSION TUNNEL, REAR FLOOR

BENCH AREA AND B-PILLAR.

Lane Assistant uses a windscreen-mounted camera to identify lane markings and keeps the vehicle within the centre of that lane using the electric power steering. This system can be overridden by the driver and can be partially or fully switched off. (Optional on SE and Elegance).

The Intelligent Light Assistant uses the same camera as Lane Assistant to monitor oncoming traffic and will automatically dip the headlamp beam, where required, to avoid dazzling the other vehicle.

Traffic Sign Recognition also uses this same camera to recognise road speed signs and will display these on the driver’s instrument panel display.

Automatic Parking Assistant will identify a suitable parallel parking space (60cm longer than the car length) and will automatically steer the car into that space or, with 2 presses of the activation button, will park the car in a parking bay. The system will also steer the vehicle back out of a parking bay when required. (Option on SE and Elegance).

Fatigue Sensor monitors the driver’s movements of the steering wheel to detect fatigue and will alert the driver visually and audibly to take a break. (Standard on SE and Elegance)
