will guide you through the magnificent sites of Karnak and Luxor.

Ancient Egypt in 3D is a virtual exploration of the architectural wonders

built by the pharaohs, and of other monuments in the Nile Valley. From

the terraced Pyramid of Djoser to the Alexandria Lighthouse of the

Ptolemaic age, the program reconstructs, in 3D and in all their

polychromy, buildings that are nowadays highly ruined, or have totally

disappeared after Napoleons Campaign to Egypt at the end of the XVIII

century.

Richard H. SolomonDr. Solomon is President of the United States Institute of Peace. He served on the staff of the National Security Councilfrom 1971 to 1976. In that position, as an aide to National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger, he supported PresidentNixons efforts to normalize relations with the Peoples Republic of China. He also served in a variety of posts at the U.S.Department of State including Director of Policy Planning, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs,and Ambassador to the Philippines.

Moderator: Edward F. CoxMr. Cox, the son-in-law of President Nixon, is a lawyer, public servant and Chairman of the Republican Party of New York.He traveled with the 37th President on many of his most important diplomatic trips, and was sent to mediate on key trademissions in China and South Korea. He is also a director of the Foreign Policy Association and a member of the Councilof Foreign Relations.

Patrick launched our new project space with four discrete,

interrelated projects on the topic of fan behavior. The pieces include:an accent wall painted to match the digital color hex huecorresponding to two Soundgarden's song titles from the "UltramegaOK" album; a handmade birdhouse based on the Smart Stud...iosbuilding (in the artist's hometown) where sound engineer Butch Vigmixed albums by Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, and manyothers; a sound piece reversing the audio from an episode of BobRoss' Joy of Painting, embodying the back-masking purportedly usedby bands to subliminally influence listeners; and, a tattoo piecefeaturing lyrics from the band The Hold Steady tattooed on the artistback.

The exhibition closes on May 28th.

The nations landscapes and cities will experience both negative and positive impacts from a changing climate.The challenge for effective climate adaptation is to form federal policies that are flexible enough to addressdiverse impacts in distinct regions of the country. A single, overarching government policy cannot contend with

This lecture takes the history of monoculture at end of the nineteenth century as a jumping off point to explore

the history of international security and its relationship to agriculture in the period between 1918 and 1945.Based on archival research in the archives of the League of Nations, the International Labour Organization aswell as governmental and private papers, the lecture demonstrates the connections between ideas about foodproduction in central and eastern Europe and Asia, and concludes with a consideration of the continuities anddiscontinuities between the inter-war period and the years after 1945.

About:

Dr Patricia Clavin is a Fellow and Tutor in Modern History at Jesus College Oxford and a member of the History

Faculty of Oxford University. Her current book, Bread and Butter Internationalism: The World Economy and theLeague of Nations, 1919-1946, focuses on the work of the Economic and Financial Section of the League of Nationsand will be published by Oxford University Press. Her new project, with Dr Sunil Amrith (Birkbeck, London), usesthe history of international organizations as a means to explore the connections between war and peace, and thehistory of development in the Twentieth Century. She has written books on the history of the Great Depression inEurope, the history of international economic diplomacy between the two world wars, and, with Asa Briggs, thehistory of Europe from 1789 to the present.

In recent years, cultural commentators have sounded the alarm about the direstate of reading in America. Americans are not reading enough, they say, or

reading the right books, in the right way.

In this lunchtime lecture, New Atlantis contributing editor Alan Jacobs will discusshis new book The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction . Jacobs arguesthat, contrary to the doomsayers, reading is alive and well in America. Hisinteractions with his students and the readers of his own books, however, suggestthat many readers lack confidence; they wonder whether they are reading well,with proper focus and attentiveness, with due discretion and discernment. Manyhave absorbed the puritanical message that reading is, first and foremost, good foryou the intellectual equivalent of eating your Brussels sprouts.

For such people, indeed for all readers, Jacobs offers some simple, powerful, and

much needed advice: read at whim, read what gives you delight, and do so withoutshame, whether it be Stephen King or the King James Version of the Bible.
