Locator TestLocator Test

GED Locator Tests help teachers evaluate students’ proficiency in each of the five GED subject areas (reading, writing, science, social studies and math). Test results indicate whether a learner is ready for GED level study or needs to first build skills and content area knowledge at the pre-GED level for each subject

Depending on the students skills, a teacher may decide to:• Place the student at the Pre-GED level in all subject

areas• Place the student at the GED level in all subject areas• Place the student at the Pre-GED level in some areas

TABE TestTABE Test

The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) has a variety of uses in adult education.

For those who are teaching adult education classes, TABE can be an assessment tool used in designing or tailoring programs to the needs of a particular group.

The TABE can be used to prepare adult students for taking the General Education Diploma (GED) test.

Page 20: Bledsoe County Adult Education

"We Are Team Bledsoe""We Are Team Bledsoe"

TABE Test (cont.)TABE Test (cont.)

The TABE is an excellent training and preparation tool for the General Education Diploma (GED) examination.

The TABE was developed with a view to marking a student’s progress toward a self-set goal. In other words, the TABE presents an educational environment without the intimidation of potential failure.

No one “fails” the TABE; the test is used to determine the vital content areas in which the adult student requires additional assistance

OPT TestOPT Test

The OPT is similar to the GED Test. It takes about 4 to 5 hours to complete and is given in the same way as the actual GED test to give you a good idea about the experience of taking the actual test.

The OPT is made up of the same five sections as the GED Test: Language Arts/ Reading, Language Arts/Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics.

Both tests were developed by the American Council on Education.
