Take Down Recurves from Border

The Black Douglas take-apart recurve offers the longest riser to limb combination catering for long draw archers in the 64” and 66” version.

In the 60” and 62” version it works very well for shorter draw archers looking for a slightly longer bow for stability. Short sharp acting limbs on a longer riser boosting overall performance.

As with all of the Black Douglas series two riser formats are available on the left the Standard format with parallel inserts and on the right the Super model with the diverging contrasting timber insert.

The Standard riser (left) is shown with Shedua and parallel Bubinga timbers and reinforced with white glass reinforcements sandwiching a substantial triple laminates carbon reinforcing strip.

The Super Riser (right) is shown with Shedua and Indonesian Rosewood insert. The reinforcements are the same for both model types. ( Fastflite approved)

Other timbers on offer include Macasser Ebony, Santos Rosewood, Indonesian Rosewood Bloodwood, Honduras Walnut, Zebrano and Mulberry.

The Black Douglas has a 21” riser and 4.5” sight window bow lengths available range from 60” to 66”

The Buffalo Horn option in addition to the carbon overlays and CX riser option makes the strongest riser set-up available on the Black Douglas series.

The Left handed Swift shows the CX riser option and accessory insert. The CX option doubles the reinforcements allowing the archer to shoot lighter arrows. Also essential for extra heavy weight bows

The Black Douglas Swift has a 19” riser and 3.5” sight window bow lengths available range from 58” to 64”

Black Douglas limb modelsThe Black Douglas series has three limb high performance models all

of complex carbon construction. Models are BD HEX4 –W wood core, BD HEX5-W wood core and the highest performing bow limb the HEX5-H (Composite core High Energy Express) limb.

What is most significant of all of these limbs are the exceptionally high levels of torsional rigidity designed into every limb. This feature makes the limb very accurate, stable and forgiving of release errors and by far more important than all out speed! The HEX4 & 5 limbs are constructed using Border’s own new technology CXC carbon bow facings. These facings are more than twice as strong as conventional clear bow laminates and 40% lighter resulting in one of the lightest limb construction available. As a result these limb are the fastest limb available on any Border bow. The CXC bow facing also offers twice the increased torsional rigidity further enhancing the limbs stability and forgiving nature. The highest performing limb in our stable. Available in black or brown finish or in optional forest pattern. (Click blue arrow for more information)Approximately 4 years ago the HEXIV wood cored limb with the previous TX40 bow facings was

tested AMO Independently 60lbs at 30” arrows were slightly heavier at 545 grains speed 197 fps. The new CXC laminates are around 200 grains lighter and that adds around 2ft per sec in arrow speed making this combination a possible AMO 200 ft per sec candidate!

The HEX5-W has been substantially developed to improve stored energy and therefore arrow speed approximately 4 fps faster than HEX4. Bow noise although very low on the HEXIV was also reduced on the HEX5 series design. Torsional rigidity remains exceptionally high by any measurement and twice as high as the TX40 laminate generated. The HEX5-H is the composite core version and as such has a lower mass core by around 23% giving another 1 to 2 fps boost . The “H” coreIs also designed to be temperature stable, stabilizing performance throughout differing climatic conditions.
