• Lee also has an ongoing series of prints & note cards of local Roanoke landmarks including: Mill Mountain, The Coffee Pot, H&C Coffee Sign, Central Mfg Offices, Dr Pepper Sign, Wertz Country Store Roanoke Weiner Stand, Passenger Station, Texas Tavern, A Roanoke Welcome, Tinnelle’s, Market Square South Roanoke Fire Station, Saint Andrew’s, Downtown Roanoke Fire Station,  Hotel Roanoke, Colonial American Bank, Grandin Village (Community Inn, Grandin Theatre)

• Elaine Fleck – Mural ArtistA two time winner of the Roanoke City Art Show‚ we are proud to have Elaine showcase a custom mural here at Black Dog.  She has designed a ‘Tuscan Garden’ mural that surrounds our waterfall in the garden room.   Elaine has been focusing most recently on custom murals and has a portfolio which includes commercial & residential clients, indoor & outdoor murals. Call Elaine for a personalized consultation @ 540-345-5932. Her most prominent mural‚ of swaying sunflowers‚ can be seen on 5th street in Old Southwest.

• Ibby GreerMy art is meant to bring the viewer back again and again to see new things in painting: not so much the thing itself (the cup or bowl or person) but the form: shapes, colors, ideas. I do not paint subjects or objects; I paint the shapes, shadows, and relationships that are seen by my artist's eye in the material before me. I have found that plates, cups, bowls, flatware, casseroles, egg dishes and other pieces of porcelain or pottery are good vehicles for my focus on shapes and shadows. And my palette knife work in bright colors finds meaning in groups of figures standing together. I see them as rectangles of color and relationship. Other people see people. I am also a poet and novelist, and in both painting and writing I try to evoke a smile and a nod of understanding, the "aha" moment.

Page 82: Black Dog Architectural Salvage Roanoke VA

• Gill PollardThe first paintings that I did were of water, as I loved to study the waterscapes of impressionists such as Monet, Renoir, Sisley, and Pissarro. Some say that I am self-taught but how could I be with such remarkable teachers? I have also studied  the American impressionists and contemporary regional painters who are pushing painting just as the historical artists have. My goal is to capture the essence of a view and paint the things that made the subject interesting to me in the first place.

• I look for places with bold highlights and shadows, as usually a good painting will follow. While learning to paint, a major breakthrough for me was learning to see what was really there. It seems obvious but to "see" as a serious artist or art collector is a major leap forward. If you can see in this manner you know what I am talking about, as it is a lot like learning a new language. My story about seeing is further complicated by the way I failed every colorblind test when in college; I must see color differently.

• I enjoy painting water and began doing views of the water, wading out into it to get the perspective of what it looked like when I went fly-fishing. The colors flickering all across the surface were ready-made brush strokes. On those early paintings nature told me where to put the paint. I am still learning and growing as an artist, I enjoy it completely. It is what I am.

• Page Turner• My assemblage pieces are formed out of vintage, antique items collected from all over the country. I

collect bits and pieces of everything, things that trigger my memories. I enjoy the discovery almost as much as I enjoy recreating the elements into artworks. One tiny scarp of something can trigger an entire memory filled with smells, tastes and remembrances of the past. I have a strong connection to each and every element that goes into work.

• I believe these artworks with the intention that the viewer will identify with an element or two that will trigger a memory of their own. Recollect a thought of someone or something long since lost.

Star Bricks! Seen around town here in Roanoke. The patterns served a practical as well as decorative function as well. Since these bricks were used primary for sidewalks, the

raised patterns prevented water from pooling, thus providing a solid, non-slip service for the walk.

Page 96: Black Dog Architectural Salvage Roanoke VA

Our customers in Hudson, NY used star bricks for their walkway.

Page 97: Black Dog Architectural Salvage Roanoke VA

They installed heating under the walk so that when it snows & ices the heater kicks in, there is no need

to shovel and the bricks are protected from damage.
