Somewhere between a swampy shack, a river baptism and a dirty truck stop. Somewhere between the corals of a gospel choir, the lamentations of a hard working tenant farmer and the curses of a cottonmouth viper, the music of Jet Black Camaro was born. Inspired by the soul and soil of the deep south, and in particular their own “southern” roots, five guys came together for the ride… each bringing their own selections of Rock, Soul, Blues and Gospel to fuel their journey into the unknown. The Camaro is running with fine tuned furore. Frans Borman and his uplifting yet world-weary demure, fills the lead vocal & harmonica seat. Gianluca Tadiello shares the front seats with his guitar style of finger-licking Rock & Roll chops and crooning backing vocals. Filling the backseat is Cashjan Bierman’s snake-like bass licks, Adriaan Jansen van Vuuren sustaining the low revolutions on keyboards and Fano du Plessis, bringing the solid beats on drums, percussion and backing vocals. Notches on the Camaro’s door pays respect to the occupants who got off at the last pitstop. The first two weeks of April 2012 saw Jet Black Camaro record their self-titled debut album with renowned
producer Jo Ellis at BlooRoom studio in Ladismith in the Western Cape. Opting to record “Live”, JBC wanted to capture all the idiosyncrasies of that which is the Blues. The challenge was to record 14 tracks in 9 days. No Sweat. There were a lot of special moments. Having to drive 14 hours to Ladismith took effect on the band when the track “14 Hours” happened in studio. Some preparation, no practice, one take. What was the outcome of the track’s recording might be considered as something that you find within the dark night of your soul. The Jet Black Camaro’s destination is uncharted. As long as the air is “fresh” and the brandy flowing, the JBC tunes be a’comin. They go where they want and do what they please. Amen. Its becomes difficult today not to describe a band's sound without name-dropping at least three names, so we'll do just that. For those of you who like Led Zeppelin's fusion of blues and rock combined with the psychedelic sensibilities of Queens of the Stone Age, the variation and depth displayed by Bruce Springsteen mixed with some good ole hand-clappin southern style gospel music.
Jet Black Camaro has a sound that can be described as “More Southern than the South”…

Festival
Essentials With festival season just around the corner, those of you partaking may be starting to put together mental lists of the stuff you’re gonna take with you. While the item at the top of the list is (hopefully) a tent, I guarantee that the following item is booze/drugs. But before you allocate your whole budget to these wonderful substances, remember to add these things to your list too: Wet wipes The lucky ones will have access to showers. Most won’t. Wet wipes will save your life. I recommend taking the equivalent of your own body weight of these bad boys. BBC = Bitches Be Clean Dry shampoo I heard about this stuff years ago, but haven’t been able to find it. The other day, the search ended in Clicks. Coming in a variety of different scents, you won’t need to wash your hair once k Well, maybe once. If you can. But your best alternative is dry shampoo! A flashlight Preferably one you can attach to your wrist, a flashlight will help you navigate whatever field you’re in, tripping balls and all (so to speak). Take all the drugs you want! But at some point during your deep conversations with Cthulhu,
you may need the bathroom. Enter your trusty flashlight! Water A 2 litre bottle of water for every day you’re at your festival of choice will not only help with hangovers, but will also decrease your chances of actually dying. Dehydration is one of the leading causes of funfuckuppery during festival season and having seizures from exhaustion will put a downer on your whole weekend. So remember guys, be clean, safe and hydrated ;) Or bugger that. As long as you lot take pictures, it’s fine. We are young! We can fuck with our bodies with no consequence! Right?

JackValve, originally Valve, was started in January 2011 by Stephen Kosterman(21, lead guitar), who
was in his second year of studies at the University of Pretoria together with Rudi Keingeld(19, rhythm
guitar), on his way to Pretoria to start studying at college. Both grew to love classic rock and decided to
start a classic rock band. They wrote the drum and bass parts on Fruity Loops(music production
software) until they could find a drummer and a bassist.
In January Rudi and Stephen discussed a vocalist with the name of Johan Kruger(19, vocals) and
listened to his previous band I & Ion. They were immediately blown away and concluded that he was
the man for the job. Rudi then contacted him and Johan was very interested. They got together and
immediately started writing their first songs: Devil in The Sky and Break my Bones.
In February SL Leroux Minnaar(21, bass) joined the group. He had played bass with Stephen in their
high school band Embroil and he was also enrolled at the University of Pretoria. Stephen asked him if
he wanted in, he joined instantly.
Also in February one evening at the popular rock pub Aandklas Rudi started playing pool with Barend
Roelofse(28, drums). After Rudi found out that he was a drummer he asked him to come and listen to
the band. He immediately fitted in and the next week they had a fully formed group.
Through the course of the year they wrote their debut album . They ended up playing more and more
shows and the sound of the band started to cement. They decided that they needed an album or an EP
and they took part in a battle of the bands competition, but sadly they placed second. This was a
setback in terms of their plans for the album or EP. After some negotiation their friend Patrick de Beer
saw an opportunity to help the band with funding. Thanks to him the band was able to start recording
their album in September 2011. With the help of Pieter Stanton from Riviera Studios they finished
recording middle March 2012.
Innovation Records started to notice them through other bands who recommended them for shows.
The label started to take serious interest and the band eventually signed with them in March on the
first evening they ever won a battle of the bands, as a band and as musicians.
Their first single, Rock 'n Roll, is a testament to the legacy old-school rock left behind.This band's
mission is to take the music of the generations that preceded them and bring it back to the people of
South Africa and the World!

Based in JHB, Samantha Williams is a Metal Head with a passion for Photography. She emerged as a professional photographer in 2010, most of her work can be spotted within the depths of Emalyth Alternate Eve, doing live band shows (survived a close encounter with Bile of Man) and Emalyth Girl sets. During 2012, Samantha became very involved with Black Apple Productions and takes photos at all their events But don’t let this dark side of her fool you she is currently working on many other projects. Samantha initially set herself up as “Ultimate Photography” but after a long hard think during a cigarette and a Black Label her ego grew and rebranded herself as “Samantha Williams Photography”.

Rick Gilbert
Discovering his unique style around the age of 16, Rick Gilbert didn’t care for painting and had never become hooked on it before. When once it wasn’t his means of expression, he grew to be more comfortable with painting, with lines, figures and dreamscapes now simply flowing out of him. The moment he picked up a paint brush, it felt right. After being a sculptor and doing pencil drawings, he experimented with different media before he settled on oils, which may change in the future. Asking what inspires him, Gilbert says that every experience becomes part of his art. Every shape that he sees and likes becomes part of his work in an abstract and visually morphed way. A better question? What hasn’t inspired him. Distinctive shapes and faces galvanize him to put down on paper and canvas that which he wishes others to see. Everything is an influence to the point where the world around him is his muse. Asked what he would like people to take from his work, he says he wants others to look and see what they want to see. He wishes to give people the space to explore with their eyes and visually digest the contours of life in abstract. Mainly, he wants people to feel the joy, excitement and vibrance he sees himself. Femininity, grace and elegance are concurrent themes in much of his work. Gilbert sold his first piece of work, a painting of a woman’s face, at the age of 17 for R800. This is no mean feat for an artist of such young age. Currently painting towards space in the Everard Reed Gallery, building a massive portfolio, he will soon be an exclusive artist, but for the moment he is still working freelance. At present he is commissioned to paint a short series for a private buyer with an African theme, but is available for other offers of almost any desired subject matter. Storm “Awesome” Thomas, (born 11 July 1985) is a South African Drummer, Percussionist and Songwriter. He started smacking on the pots and pans and jamming on school desks from an early age. He received his very first drum set at the age of 14 and has continued to play for the past 13 years. He started playing with various garage bands with many different kinds of musicians. Storm then went onto play in a church band for many years, learning the different styles presented to him. From there Storm moved onto amateur theater, where he did orchestral percussion for a number of shows. This is where he finally joined his first live performance band – a Metal Act by the name of “Mute”.
Shortly after “Mute”, Storm started doing percussion, vocals and harmonica for the Death Valley Blues Band and shortly after starting with them, he became their permanent drummer. He has also been known for playing drums for a Punk band – “The Braineaters” and Folk band—”Sloppy Folk”. He does percussive drumming for “Submachine”, and Latin Percussion for “Son of a Thousand Blues”.
On top of this, Storm has also played drums for Rockabilly band “The Carniwhores.” Rock Band "No Equal" And has played for artists such as Melanie Louw and Krystle T. He currently sessions for Acoustic Blues outfit, “Energy Related”, Melodic Hard Rock band, “Jenna Sighed” and often does solo work and "guest spots" as percussionist/drummer for bands. He also provides entertainment doing tribal and African drum solos while backing belly dancers at Corporates and Restaurants..
Storm has played popular festivals such as “Woodstock”, “Splashy Fen”, “OppiKoppi”, “Lucky Fish”, “Thornfest”, “Mutherfudd”. Storm has also appeared on Radio Stations such as “5FM”, “Tuks Fm”, “UJ Fm”, the “Joe BloggShow” and many more. He has shared stages with popular South African acts such as: “Josie Field”, “Fuzigish”, “Slashdogs”, “Cortina Whiplash”, “Zebra & Giraffe”, “Fokofpolisiecar”, “Hog Hogiddy Hogs”, “New Academics”, “Rambling Bones”, “Aking” , “Van Coke Kartel”, “The Parlotones”, “Boki”, “Melanie Louw”, “Krystle T” to mention a few and International Acts such as “Sheep On Drugs” and “Fatboy Slim
Storm has been on various television channels, such as MK and on SABC 2, for Kadaa & Jam Sandwhich where he with the Death Valley Blues band and Amu wrote and recorded a blues hip hop song in only two days. Storm has also been involved in doing the soundtrack and starring in “Project Morningstar” and was invited to play the premiere.
