Lincoln Agritech’s Biotechnology Team are specialists in microbial biotechnology, providing innovative solutions to primary industries. Recent projects have included the development of biosensors: Milk-Guard - lactose quantification technology for the dairy industry, technology now licenced to Christchurch start-up CertusBio; and for Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) quantification for the wastewater industry. Current work includes using bacteria to remove contaminants from wine. The Biotechnology Team also has a strong focus in farming and forestry on plant growth promotion and biological control. Biological control represents an alternative to chemicals for controlling plant disease.
