overall sustainability. There are numerous concrete examples in the market today – high speed train designs, photovoltaics, natural ventilation systems, architecture, urban planning, texti-les, new adhesives, and more. Whether it is understood as an approach to producing sustainable products or a complete transformation of the way that humans view and interact with nature, Biomimicry has the potential to be a key driver of eco-nomic growth and the transition into a more energy and re-sources efficient economy.

To accelerate the concrete translation of bio-inspired techno-logies into commercial products and organizational change, appropriate financing models and metrics will have to be de-veloped and implemented.

Summit HiGHLiGHtS

The Biomimicry Europe Innovation and Finance Summit offers the opportunity to learn about Biomimicry, to consider solutions nature can provide, and to discuss the latest commercializati-on platforms and financing instruments that will accelerate the path to market for bio-inspired innovation.

The Summit is organized by the not-for-profit Foundation FFGS, a Zurich-based Think & Do tank founded in 2007. The 3-day event is held in Zurich, according to many ratings, a city with a globally leading standard of living. It is held in the beautiful Zu-rich Zoo area, close to the lake and downtown area. Accom-modation information is available for all foreign visitors.

The Summit is organized in cooperation with the San Diego Zoo´s Biomimicry Conference. Since 2008, San Diego Zoo Glo-bal has convened industry leaders for its annual bioinspiration conference. San Diego Zoo Global is pleased to support the 2012 Innovation and Finance Summit in Zurich, to build interna-tional collaborations in the area of bioinspiration and increase the awareness of the financial opportunities in the area of novel technologies that are nature-inspired and environmen-tally friendly. In fall 2013 the San Diego Zoo Global Bioinspiration Conference «Bridging Nature and Design» will be held in San Diego, California.

you should be there and experience:

Biomimicry 3.8 is the global leader in biomimicry innovation consulting, professional training, and educational program and curricula development. Its mission is to train, equip, and connect scientists, engineers, architects, educators, and other innovators to sustainably emulate nature’s 3.8 billion years of brilliant designs and strategies.Over the past 14 years, and operating as both a for-profit cor-poration and non-profit institute, the organization has helped more than 250 clients redesign carpets, furniture, manufactu-ring processes, airplanes, and even entire cities, all in nature’s sustainable image. Co-founders Janine Benyus and Dr. Dayna Baumeister, in concert with staff and partners worldwide, have also reached millions through talks and trained hundreds who now practice biomimicry in their professions.www.biomimicry.net

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Har-vard University uses nature’s design principles to develop bio-inspired materials and devices that will transform medicine and create a more sustainable world. The Wyss Institute cros-ses disciplinary and institutional barriers to engage in high-risk research that leads to transformative technological break-throughs. These technologies are translated into commercial products and therapies through collaboration with clinical in-vestigators, corporate alliances, and new start-ups.wyss.harvard.edu
