BIOGRAPHIES

Professor John Strang John Strang is Director of the National Addiction Centre (NAC); Head of the Addictions Department at King’s College London and Leader of the Addictions Clinical Academic Group of the Kings Health Partners. He has been an addictions psychiatrist for over 30 years, and has led the group at the Maudsley for many years. Professor John Marsden John Marsden is a clinical research psychologist with a research focus on the study of behavioural and pharmacological therapies for substance use disorders. He has research interests in treatment systems research, psychometrics, and psychiatric epidemiology. He was a member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (2005-2009) and a founding member of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs. Professor Sheila Bird Shelia Bird is Programme Leader at the MRC Biostatistics Unit at the University of Cambridge and a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Her research interests include data modelling of injection-related Hepatitis C, drug-related deaths, and application of statistical methods in the criminal justice system’s treatment of drug-dependent offenders. Dr Ed Day Ed Day is a Senior Lecturer at the National Addiction Centre and a Consultant in Addiction Psychiatry with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust. His work is split between clinical research and teaching at King’s and clinical practice in a drug treatment team in Erdington in Birmingham. Dr Anna Williams Anna Williams recently completed her PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, supervised by Professor John Strang and Dr John Marsden. Her master’s project focused on the development and delivery of psycho-educational interventions for crack-cocaine users from shantytowns. Dr Emily Finch Emily Finch is a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist working for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Clinical Director for the Addictions Clinical Academic Group. She is also a tutor, lecturer and examiner on the MSc in Clinical and Public Health Aspects of Addiction and is an experienced expert witness in family and criminal cases.

Dan Bigg Dan Bigg is one of the founders and currently the Director of the Chicago Recovery Alliance (CRA), an agency founded in 1991. The CRA operates 20 harm reduction outreach sites with syringe exchange throughout the city of Chicago and its suburbs. Kirsten Horsburgh Kirsten Horsburgh is the National Naloxone Co-ordinator working within the Scottish Drugs Forum. She provides training, development and coordination for Scotland's national programme which is fully funded and supported by the Scottish Government. Dr Erin Winstanley Erin Winstanley is a Research Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati and Director of Health Services Research at Mercy Health. Her expertise is in behavioural (substance use disorders and mental illness) health services research and in developing interventions that increase access to evidence-based treatment for patients with mental illness and substance use disorders. Dr Angela Meade Angela Meade is a Senior Research Scientist at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL. She works as project lead for various trials in oncology as well as the N-ALIVE trial on which she collaborates with Professor John Strang.
