Come play with us

Bingham Day Nursery occupies an attractive old cottage property, with self-contained baby annex, in the centre of the conservation area of the market town of Bingham. We make regular use of the wide range of resources on offer; Trips to the library, market place, recreation grounds, community groups and also the fire station, which we are situated directly opposite.

As well as the main Nursery buildings the site benefits from a separate Pre-school section, helping both children and parents/carers to make an easy and enjoyable transition into mainstream education.

Our exclusive Woodland activity centre provides the children with a unique opportunity to explore their natural environment on a daily basis. Learning activities support the renowned forest schools principles; receiving worldwide interest as a means of combating nature deficit disorder, witnessed with the increased use of computer technology. The new facilities will encourage children to care for our natural world, with the ultimate aim of promoting the sustainability of our planet.

Welcome to our Nursery

Our Nursery

Did you know we have been established since April 1980 and we are Members of the National Day Nurseries Association, Ofsted Registered and Quality Counts Accredited

The Nursery opened its doors on the 28th April 1980, originally with a license to hold up to a maximum of 18 children, however the buildings have been totally revamped over the years and extended to accommodate the increasing community.

We have an excellent ratio of qualified and experienced staff, ensuring the provision of an enhanced quality of loving childcare.

Despite the many cosmetic alterations, the Nursery still retains its unique, quaint, family atmosphere; largely supported by the children being divided into small groups with their immediate peers, where they are encouraged to undertake a wide range of activities encompassing all types of sand, water, art and creative play.

EARLY YEARS have always promoted the importance and value of music, rhyme and drama in a child’s development; the setting works closely with Tiny Talk UK, offering a unique programme of musical activities to all ages.

As a group we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life & support to fulfil their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe & happy childhood is important in its’ own right, and provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities & talents as they grow up.

Welcome to our Nursery

We understand that when parents choose to use our services they need to know that the provision will keep their children safe & help them to thrive.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

AT EARLY YEARS all our children are encouraged to undertake a wide range of activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the government framework that provides that assurance. The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying & achieving, making a positive contribution, and achieving economic well-being.

The EYFS identifies four distinct but complementary themes, which celebrate the skills and competence of babies and young children:

! A Unique Child! Positive Relationships! Enabling Environments! Learning and Development

Highlighting the interrelationship between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated, the children are encouraged to develop as individuals supported by the following principles:

Children learn to be strong &

independent from a base of loving &

secure relationships with parents and/or

a key person

Every child is a competent learner

from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident & secure

The environment plays a key role in

supporting & extending children’s

development & learning

Children develop & learn in different

ways & at different rates & all areas of

Learning & Development are

equally important & inter-connected

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

AT EARLY YEARS all our children are encouraged to undertake a wide range of activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the government framework that provides that assurance. The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying & achieving, making a positive contribution, and achieving economic well-being.

! Personal, Social and Emotional Development:! Communication, Language and Literacy;! Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy;! Knowledge and Understanding of the World;! Physical Development;! Creative Development.

Throughout the provision we endeavour to lay secure foundations for your child’s learning and development, in accordance with the six definitive areas of learning identified in the EYFS:

Entitled the Early Learning Goals, your child will be encouraged and supported in each of the above areas, and their achievements will be recorded in their individual development folders, called “All About Me”. The six areas of learning are promoted throughout the Nursery and development records are kept from birth through to school age, these can be viewed at anytime. The staff liaise with parents on a regular basis to exchange information about the children, including activities undertaken outside of Nursery and achievements made within the home. These combined with photographs and pieces of the children’s work help to build a unique and personal keepsake of their days at Nursery.

Throughout the year children will be involved in a variety of special topics and ‘fun days’, to introduce them to a wide range of cultural festivals and charitable fundraising opportunities. Often featured in local newspaper articles, the Nursery has an ability to help the children grow and develop by creating exciting and interactive learning opportunities, led through play within a traditional ‘village nursery’ atmosphere.

The Pre-school

Baby UnitThis brand new facility opened June 2005; whilst located on the same site as the existing building, it is self contained and equipped with a biometric fingerprint entry system for maximum security; acknowledging that this is a very anxious time for parents/carers who are facing separation from their little ones for the first time. Looking after the specific needs of our youngest children, our qualified and experienced team are only too happy to speak to parents throughout the day to offer support and reassurance during their first days at Nursery.

We have:• A comfortable carpet area with plenty of soft toys for our children as they start to explore• A large conservatory incorporating a kitchen area for preparing individual meals and a messy area for

tactile exploration• A sleep room with cots for our much needed nap times• Appropriate nappy changing and baby care facilities

Whilst providing essential personal care and attention, team members in the room are also undertaking careful observations to complete the first stages of each child’s ‘All About Me’ files.

The Pre-school

The Pre-school As parents/carers begin to think about ‘big’ school, the children are provided with a valuable insight into how life is going to be in mainstream education. In addition to the specialised day nursery facilities, children are instructed in the basic skills of reading, writing and number work. Older children within the group also receive an introduction to French and a PC is constantly accessible for basic computer skills.Qualified staff and trainees, supported by our experienced teacher, use the Early Learning Goals as a tool to make the transition to school much easier for the children, parents/carers and the teachers at the new setting.

The room has:• A carpeted area for large construction toys• Tables for completing planned topic work• A large practical floor space for arts and crafts• A separate home corner with role play facilities and dressing up clothes• A quiet reading corner• An activity room for child initiated sand, water and creative activities

Knowledge and understanding of the world is an area of learning actively promoted within this section, studying the environment, different cultures and developing an increased awareness of everyday life. Activities including baking and gardening are undertaken and regular visits into the community help to stimulate the children even further. Weekly yoga classes have proved a popular addition and in nice weather take place outdoors to promote spatial awareness, concentration and listening skills.

The Outdoor EnvironmentAll the children have access to safe enclosed outdoor play facilities; babies have a shaded decked area providing access to fresh air all year round; the younger children make good use of the Astro turfed play area containing; see-saws; slides; play house; multi activity centre for climbing, crawling, balancing; coupe and police cars; toddle trucks; prams; balls; hoops; bean bags and stepping stones.

Older children ride trikes, bikes and tractors round our cycle track, stopping only to fill up with petrol or if the traffic lights are on red!

The children play with sand and water outside and also make use of the Nursery garden to grow sunflowers, beans, tomatoes and various other plants.

A large grass play area to the rear of the baby annex allows all the children freedom to explore on a grand scale, whilst experiencing elements of the natural world and its therapeutic and stimulating effects.

In addition to trips into the centre of Bingham, the children make use of the local transport services, including buses and trains, to take trips further a field in support of planned topics.

Welcome to our Nursery

Our Partnership with ParentsAs with all our Nurseries, BINGHAM DAY NURSERY operates an ‘Open Door’ policy and we constantly encourage parents/carers to feel that they can communicate freely with our qualified team members.

The Nursery, in accordance with Ofsted recommendations, has detailed Policies and Procedures in place to cover all eventualities, some of which are displayed on the main notice boards in both buildings, the remainder are contained within our Operational Plan, a copy of which is available in all the rooms.

Older rooms hold regular ‘Open Evenings’ to give parents/carers an opportunity to discuss their child’s achievements with staff. Notice boards in each room display menus and activities for the day, and parents will often be presented with an artistic masterpiece to take home at the end of the session.

We welcome your interest, whether it is finding out ‘what sort of day we have had’, or helping to support topic work within the rooms.
