The Bimini Nature Trail, maintained and operated by Bimini Sands (347-3500), is a beautiful hiking trail that showcases Bi-mini’s plants and animals in their natural environment. The Bimini Boa and other animals are available for handling with guided tours. Both guided and self-guided tours are available.

The Fountain of Youth, a small well on the side of the road, believed to have been visited by Ponce de Leon in search of this mystical fountain in 1513.

Historical SitesBrother’s Peter Wall, also known as “Bul Peter Well”, is a natural rock well carved by Peter Russell, an ex-slave, to water crops on his farm.

East BiminiThe Healing Hole is a spring of freshwa-ter, with healing minerals, that percolates inside a saltwater mangrove swamp.

Sand Mounds, a 500 foot long, shark-shaped mound thought to be thousands of years old, rises 10 feet above water and is outlined by a sandy beach. Nearby is a rectangular-shaped mound, except for a projection at one end that looks like a fish-hook. Next to that are a cat-shaped mound with a wide open mouth and sev-eral other creature-shaped mounds rising above the mangroves.

Outlying CaysCat Cay, a private island just south of Gun Cay, has earned a reputation as a place for the rich and famous. For more information contact Cay Cay office at 347-3565

Ocean Cay is the site from which aragonite(pure limestone) is dredged from the ocean’s floor to produce cement, fertil-izers, glass and other products.

BeachesThe best of which is a quiet continuous stretch of sand known by its three sections, Radio Beach, Blister Beach and Spook Hill (next to a cemetery).Possibly the most secluded of all Bimini’s beached is South Bimini’s Shell Beach, stretching along the whole west side of the island. Plus beaautiful coral reef snorkeling just off the beach.
