Why are leaves GREEN?
• Sunlight = White light and contains all colors of the spectrum
• Leaves contain pigments chlorophyll a & b and carotenoids
• Chlorophylls absorb all colors besides green = reflect green
Why do leaves change in the fall?
• Leaves loose their chlorophyll as they die
• Carotenoids (pigment) reflect yellows, oranges, greens
