“Shimla” or “Simla” is a capital of Himachal Pradesh, located in northern India. It is bounded by Mandi, Kullu in the north, Kinnaur in the east, and the state of Uttarakhand in the south – east, and Solan and Sirmaur. Shimla is a name derived from the Hindu goddess “Shymala

Devi”. The climate is in winters predominantly cool and moderately warm in summers. It is one of the most tourist places due to its climate. The city has snow falling in winters.

First of all begin with “The Ridge Road” is an open space, located in the heart of Shimla. There are the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Dr. Y.S. Parmar the first chief minister of the state. This is the centre, you can move anywhere from here, even you are not decided yet just come out come here, and decide where you want to go. The “Lakkar bazaar” is also leads from the ridge, is the market of wooden handicrafts. You will find everything from wood. You can also buy these handicrafts.

The “Jakhoo temple” is also connected by ridge road, the temple is situated on the Jakhoo hill,2.5 km east from the ridge, Shimla at a height of 8000 ft. above from the sea level. It is a Hindu deity temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is a mythological story that Hanuman was stopped here to take a rest while searching the “sanjivani booty” to breathe life into Lakshman in the epic Ramayana. The city looks incredible. This hill gives a panoramic view. You can come on your feet or you can hire, taxi, pony/ horse. But beware of monkeys. The green slopes are covered with firs, pines, Himachal oak and carmine rhododendron trees on the ridge. The summer festival is celebrated in months of April and May on the ridge road, the city becomes so colourful and riot of activities. “Christ Church” is the second oldest church in northern India, after St. John’s church in Meerut. The church is situated on the ridge road. It was built in 1857 in neo-gothic style. It has a great collection of books and ancient scriptures.

“Summer Hill” is at a height 2,123 meters in the west of the ridge. It is a part of seven hill clutter. This was offered to Mahatma Gandhi to stay on his visit.

“Rashtrapati Niwas” or “Viceregal Lodge” is located in the observatory hills of the city. It was formerly the residence of the British “Viceroy of India”. It houses some ancient articles, photographs of the time of British going back to the British rule of India. Former president, S. Radhkrihnan gives to the Ministry of Education, and now it serves in the education courses. After these entire places one picnic place, “Glen” is the dense forest with deodar and pine and other trees. It is located in the dense forests of summer hills. It is a “U” shaped valley, it is hardly 4 km away from mall road. You can come here from a taxi as well. Glen is the most popular picnic destination, lush with tall deodar trees, and you will see little canals which form a small tributary river. It is the most enjoyable, amazing places, you will love to walk here, the most scenic destination and hasty also.

“Kinnaur Kailash” is related to a mythological story of Lord Shiva and Bhasmasur, a demon that Lord Shiva was impressed by his devotion so that, offer him a boon, any person’s head touch by him will be turned to ashes (basm), and he was striving to apply this with Shiva and that time Lord Vishnu was coming there and saved Shiva, by disguising as a lady and make him touch his own head.
