This year’s artistic director, Dallas-based artist JOHN POMARA, intrigues us with his digitally inspired prints and videos. Coupled with his installed works, Pomara has commissioned a performance by artist DANIELLE GEORGIOU and the DGDG DANCE GROUP, which will excite and amaze us during tonight’s cocktail hour. Pomara has also generously donated 12 PRINTS from his FACE-LIFT #1 series, available this evening as “BUY IT NOW!”

items for $2,000 each.

Tonight’s exquisite dinner menu is planned and executed by TERRY KRANZ and CHEF SEAN FRYE of TK CULINARY. The vision behind the stunning design direction for the evening belongs to GRANGE HALL. PHILLIPS joins us

again this year, with the exceptional auctioneer PHILAE KNIGHT leading the live auction.

PHILAE KNIGHT, a west coast native and Connecticut Col-lege art history major, began her career in the art world when she was 16 working in a contemporary art gallery. Philae joined the business development team at PHILLIPS AUCTION HOUSE in 2007 where she now leads the New York office of Private Client Services. With a passion for fund-raising, Philae supports museums, institutions, education and health care initiatives as a charity auctioneer.

When not convincing bidders to make the world a better place and raise their paddles, Philae can be found on the ski slopes of the Rockies, hiking in far off lands or stroll-ing concrete jungles in search of the next emerging artist.

DALLAS CONTEMPORARY, founded in 1978, is mod-eled after European art centers, and organizes emerg-ing and seminal one-person exhibitions and thematic group exhibitions. Dallas Contemporary attracts audi-ences from around Texas, while its touring exhibitions benefit audiences around the country and abroad.

Dallas Contemporary’s mission is to present art of our time to the public and to document new directions in art through changing exhibitions, publications and learning programs for visitors of all ages. The range and level of Dallas Contemporary’s programs serve audiences in the metropolitan Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.

check-inBESPOKE: SATURDAY 04 MAY 2013, guests will receive a bidder packet containing electronic bid stickers. Please use bid stickers on items in the silent auction. Stickers will also be collected during the Live Auction for winning bids. On Saturday eve-ning, neither handwritten bids nor bids placed after the auction area is closed at 22.30 (10.30 pm) will be valid.

live art auction The live auction will take place during the Bespoke Art Auction beginning at 21.00 (9.00 pm) on Saturday 04 May 2013. Descriptions for the live auction items are listed in the auction cata-logue. If you wish to place a bid, simply raise your paddle to be recognized by the auctioneer and the spotters. The highest bidder for any item will be the purchaser. Items must be fully paid for before removal from the premises.

absentee bidding If you are unable to attend Bespoke or prefer to bid anonymously during the live auction, you may bid on live or silent auction items by completing the absentee bidding form. All bids must be received by 12.00 (12.00 pm) on Saturday 04 May 2013. The bid will

be executed on the night of Bespoke by the auctioneer on the behalf of the undersigned, on the items designated listed, up to the maximum amount stated. All successful bids will be considered final sales, and winning bidders will be contacted and advised on payment and pick-up procedures. All bids will be accepted and executed subject to the Conditions of Sale.

silent auctionSilent auction will begin at 19.00 (7.00 pm) on Saturday 04 May 2013 and will close at 22.30 (10.30 pm) on Sat-urday 04 May 2013. To place a bid in the silent auction, you must raise the existing bid by the minimum incre-ment amount stated for each item. All bids are binding once they have been made. One hour after the live auc-tion concludes, the silent auction will close. Please do not attempt to place additional bids. If the successful bid-der has left the premises, the bidder will be notified the following week. If the bidder cannot be reached, Dallas Contemporary will contact the next highest bidder.

buy it now A silent auction bid of retail value plus 30% buys the piece immediately. If the winner is not present at closing, the winner will be notified on Monday 06 May 2013. If Dallas Contemporary is unable to finalize the sale in one week, the next highest bidder will be notified.

CONDITIONS OF SALE

1. (a) Dallas Contemporary assumes no risk, liability or responsibility for the authenticity of the authorship of any

property identified in this catalogue or online (that is, the identity of the artist or the provenance or medium, as the case may be, of any property identi-fied herein). All property to be sold has been donated to Dallas Contemporary for resale for fundraising purposes. Dallas Contemporary has undertaken no independent research with respect to the authenticity of any property identified in this catalogue. Informa-tion on all Bespoke auction items is prepared as of the catalogue press time. (b) All property is sold “as is” and Dallas Contemporary does not make any representations or warranties of any kind or nature, expressed or im-plied, with respect to the property, and in no event shall they be responsible for the correctness, nor be deemed to have made any representation or warranty of description, geniuneness, attribution, provenance or condition of the property. No statement in the cata-logue, online or made at the sale, or in any bill of sale or invoice, or elsewhere, shall be deemed such a representation or warranty, express or implied, as to whether the purchaser acquires any reproduction rights in the property. Prospective buyers should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size and whether or not it has been repaired or restored.

2. Any property may be withdrawn by Dallas Contemporary at any time be-fore the actual sale.

3. The auctioneer and Dallas Con-temporary reserve the right to reject a bid from any bidder. The highest bid-der acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between the bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final

discretion either to determine the suc-cessful bidder or re-offer and resell the article in dispute. If two or more parties wish to continue bidding, a bid-off or oral bidding will be permitted with an auction volunteer present until a win-ner is resolved. If any dispute arises after the sale, Dallas Contemporary’s sale records shall be conclusive in all respects.

4. If the auctioneer determines that any opening bid is not commensurate with the value of the article offered, the auctioneer may reject the same and withdraw the article from sale, and if, having acknowledged an opening bid he decides that any advance is insuf-ficient, he may reject the advance.

5. On the fall of the auctioneer’s ham-mer, the highest bidder shall be deem-ed to have purchased the offered lot subject to all of the conditions set forth herein and thereupon (a) assumes full risk and responsibility therefore, (b) will sign a confirmation of purchase thereof and (c) will pay the full pur-chase price therefore before property can be resold. All property shall be re-moved from premises by the purchas-er no later than twenty-one (21) days following the sale and, if not removed, may be sent by Dallas Contemporary at the expense of the purchased to a public warehouse for the account risk and expense of the purchaser and such added charges will then be added to the purchase price of the object. If the foregoing conditions and other applicable conditions are not complied with, in addition to other remedies available to Dallas Contem-porary by law, including, without limi-tation, the right to hold the purchaser liable for the bid price, Dallas Con-

temporary, at its option, may either (a) cancel the sale, retaining as liquidated damage all payments made by the purchaser or (b) resell the property on three (3) days notice to the purchaser and for account and risk of the pur-chaser, either publicly or privately, and in such event the purchaser shall be liable for payment of any deficiency, all other charges due the reunder and incidental damages.

6. Deliveries outside of Texas may be subject to the tax of another state and, where a duty of collection is im-posed by law, Dallas Contemporary will require payment of all said taxes. A purchase price below or at fair market value is considered to represent the value of the property purchased and is therefore not deductible as a charita-ble contribution. For a purchase price above fair market value, the amount above fair market value is considered tax deductible.

7. Some lots may be offered subject to a reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below which such lot will not be sold. The auctioneer may implement such reserves by bidding on behalf of Dallas Contemporary.

8. These Condition of Sale, as well as the purchaser’s and Dallas Contempo-rary’s respective rights and obligations hereunder, shall be governed by and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas. By bidding at an auction, whether present in person or any agent, the purchaser shall be deemed to have consented to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state courts, and federal courts sitting in the State of Texas.
