First, can you find financial support from the UK government to help your business handle the cost of high winter energy bills? Whitehall provides a range of benefits and grants for this very purpose; but these programmes are generally targeted at households and aren’t suitable for SMEs.

However, if you owe money to your energy supplier you may be able to get a grant from a charitable trust, or even the company themselves, to help pay off your firm’s outstanding balance. Our advisers have been trained to recognise BES Utilities customers that may be facing difficulty paying their bills. They will refer you to Business Debtline, who will help you get your firm’s finances in order.

Also, you could ask for help from The Business Energy Solutions Fund. Founded by BES Utilities and run by Charis Grants, this is a Scheme which temporarily freezes and potentially writes off debts for customers of several leading energy and water companies.

If you’ve been a BES Utilities customer for at least 12 months and you’ve already asked Business Debtline for help on your firm’s energy bills, you can apply for the Fund online. As long as you pay your next three monthly invoices on time, we’ll clear your outstanding balance so you get back to thinking about how to make your business successful.
