David Jarvis 19Head Coach13th Year

22nd Overall (654-466-1)Arkansas State ‘82

Head Coach David Jarvis is entering his 13th season atBelmont, where he has led Bruin baseball to consistently excel in theclassroom while competing at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference.Jarvis, a life-time teacher and coach, is in his 28th season of coach-ing college baseball after successful stints as an assistant at MurrayState and head coach Three Rivers Community College.

Jarvis led the Bruins to a program-record of 34 victories in 2007and has seen seven players drafted in the last five years. Off the field, the Bruins are coming off their best year in terms of the AcademicProgress Rate (APR) while listing 15 players on the Academic All-Atlantic Sun list. In the most-recent APR release, Belmont baseballreported a score of 983 - nearly 40 points above the national baseballaverage. The scored ranked in the highest 10 percent of all baseballprograms competing in NCAA Division I earning the prestigious PublicRecognition Award for the second time in the APR's four-year histo-ry. The award was only given out to 31 programs in 2009, out of near-ly 300 Division I programs throughout the nation.

Since Belmont has been a member of the Atlantic Sun, Jarvishas coached 26 All-Atlantic Sun Conference selections, 144 AtlanticSun Academic All-Conference selections and 16 Atlantic SunPlayer of the Week honorees.

On the field in 2009, the Bruins returned to the Atlantic SunTournament Semifinals for the third consecutive season behindthe potent pair of record-setting veteran infielder Derek Wiley and up-and-coming outfielder Dylan Craig. Wiley graduated owning sixBelmont career batting records as the A-Suncareer homerun leader (58). Craig was the firstBruin since Wiley to earn A-Sun Freshman of theYear honors after setting a Belmont single-sea-son record of 92 hits. The Chattanooga south-paw maintained the second-longest hittingstreak in Belmont history at 26-games andcapped off his impressive debut season in blueand red being named to the Louisville SluggerFreshman All-American Team by CollegiateBaseball.

Under Jarvis' tutelage Belmont's presencein MLB Draft continued in the 2009 offseason asjunior second baseman Daniel Wagner andWiley were selected - the fourth time in fiveyears two Bruins have been drafted. Wagnerwas the second highest Bruin in the Division I era taken in the draftafter the Chicago White Sox grabbed him in the 16th round, while theAtlanta Braves picked Wiley in the 31st round. In Belmont's 56-yearbaseball history, nine of the Bruins' 26 total MLB Draft selections havebeen taken since Jarvis arrived in Nashville in 1998.

In 2007, Jarvis earned his 600th career victory after leading theBruins to a program-record of 34 wins, a berth in the Atlantic SunChampionship finals, and a fourth winning season in the last fiveyears. With a league record of 16-11 the Bruins earned a No. 3 seedits second A-Sun Tournament appearance, eliminating top-seed andhost No. 23 Stetson, 18-5, before losing the championship game toJacksonville - one win short of the Bruins' first-ever NCAA Tournamentbid. The history-making roster included five Atlantic Sun All-Conference performers - pitcher Charles Lee, infielder Matt Reynolds, outfielders Kane Simmons and Wilson Tucker and designated hitterDerek Wiley.

2006 saw two players earn first team All-Conference, whileWiley was named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year as well as amember of Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-American squad.Several other players earned weekly honors from the Atlantic SunConference throughout the season as well.

Relief pitcher Blake Owen set a single-season Belmont record

of 13 saves while posting an ERA of 0.81 under the direction of Jarvisin 2005. Owen, a Vanderbilt transfer, earned First Team All-Conference in his lone season at Belmont and went on to be the high-est Bruin selected in the MLB Draft during the NCAA era. After hisjunior year as a Bruin, Owen was picked by the Baltimore Orioles inthe sixth round (183rd overall).

In 2004, the Bruins posted 31 wins - which was then the mostwins in school history - but fell short of the conference tournament witha 13-17 league record. For the second consecutive season the Bruinstied a program record as 21 players were named Academic All-Conference.

Jarvis garnered Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year honors in2003 after leading the Bruins to a 10-win improvement in conferenceplay while earning the program's first Atlantic Sun Tournament bid.Posting a 9-20 league record in Belmont's 2002 inaugural season inthe Atlantic Sun, Jarvis righted the ship in 2003 with a fourth-place fin-ish and a 19-14 A-Sun record. Two Bruins earned All-Conference nodsand two others were named Academic All-District by CoSIDA.

Belmont baseball's strong academic standing was furtheranchored by the program's first Academic All-America selectionJosh Brummett, a First Team selection in 2003-04 and a Third Teamselection in 2001-02. Dan Soukup was the second Bruin baseballplayer to be named Academic All-America, landing on the Third Teamin 2003-04. A total of 16 Belmont athletes have been named AcademicAll-America by CoSIDA.

Jarvis captured his first win over a rankedopponent in 2001 after knocking off eventualCollege World Series participant Georgia in Athens,Ga. In 2003, the Bruins defeated No. 17 FloridaAtlantic on the road, followed by defeating two moreranked teams in 2004, besting No. 23 Tennesseeand No. 30 Florida Atlantic.

Jarvis fine-tuned his coaching ability with anine-year stint as head coach at Three RiversCommunity College in Poplar Bluff, Mo., from 1985-93. The Raiders were consistently ranked in theNational Junior College Athletic Association top-20poll, highlighted by a No. 4 ranking in 1992. He wasa three-time selection as Coach of the Year for theMidwest Community College Athletic Conference, aswell as garnering Coach of the Year honors for

women's basketball. Jarvis broke into NCAA Division I baseball as an assistant with

Murray State in the fall of 1993, where he was hired by currentBelmont Athletic Director, Mike Strickland. At Murray, he was primarilyresponsible for the instruction of hitters and catchers as well as teach-ing base running skills. Jarvis also used his extensive junior collegenetwork to create a recruiting pipeline for the Thoroughbreds.

Jarvis finished his playing career at Arkansas State as thestarting catcher and team captain. The Missouri native earned a bach-elor's degree in education and later received his master's in education, both at Arkansas State.
