BEING A WINNER

Page 2: Being a Winner

TYPES OF PERSONALITY Four kinds of people:

1. Those who make things happen 2. Those who watch things happen 3. Those who wonder what happened 4. Those who don't know that anything happened

Some win, some lose, depending on how much they develop their personalities every day.

There is a quote which reads.........“There are people who make things happen,There are people who watch things happen and There are people who ask “what happened”.

Page 3: Being a Winner

THE EXTROVERT Bold, daring, fun loving, always communicating first

THE ENTROVERT Reserved, shy and responding to communication

THE POSITIVE Charged, willing to take chances.

THE NEGATIVE Negative, rarely smiles, blames others instead of taking

charge.

Some win, some lose, depending on how much they develop their personalities every day.

TYPES OF PERSONALITY

Page 4: Being a Winner

Let's define the term "winner": The most common definition is "the person or team with the best score (i.e. points,

goals, runs, time, etc.)." A better definition of a winner is "someone who gives 100 percent of their effort in

preparation for and during competition.“ However, winning involves more than just beating

your opponent on the scoreboard.

When you're a winner you're always happy, but if you're happy as a loser you'll always be a loser.

Page 5: Being a Winner

WINNERS versus LOSERSThe winner is always part of the

answer. The loser is always part of the problem.

The winner always has a programme. The loser always has an excuse.

The winner says, “Let me do it for you”. The loser says, “That is not my job”.

The winner sees an answer for every problem.

The loser sees a problem for every answer.

The winner says, “It may be difficult but it is possible”.

The loser says, “It may be possible but it is difficult”.

When a winner makes a mistake, he says, “I am wrong”.

When a loser makes a mistake, he says, “It isn’t my fault”.

A winner makes commitments. A loser makes promises.

Winners have dreams. Losers have schemes.

Winners say, “I must do something”. Losers say, “Something must be done”.

Winners are a part of the team. Losers are apart from the team.

Winners see the gain. Losers see the pain.

Page 6: Being a Winner

WINNERS versus LOSERSWinners see possibilities. Losers see problems.

Winners believe in win / win. Losers believe for them to win someone has to lose.

Winners see the potential. Losers see the past.

Winners choose what they say. Losers say what they choose.

Winners use hard arguments but soft words.

Losers use soft argument but hard words.

Winners stand firm on values but compromise on petty things.

Losers stand firm on petty things but compromise on values.

Winners make it happen. Losers let it happen.

Ten Qualities of a Total WinnerQualities Winners Self-talk Losers Say

Attitude Qualities

1. Positive Self-Expectancy

I was good today. I'll be better tomorrow

With my luck, I was bound to fail.

Overall attitude of personal optimism and enthusiasm. Winners understand the psychosomatic relationship: mind and body-that the body expresses what the mind is concerned with.

2. Positive Self-Image

I see myself changing, growing, achieving, winning!

They're my hang-ups, faults, and stupidities…and I'm stuck with'em.

They know the self-image acts as a subconscious life-governing device-that if in your self-image you can't possibly see yourself doing something, achieving something, you literally cannot do it!

I cannot understand why life did this to me.

Acceptance of a 100% responsibility for causing the effects of his or her life. Winners realize they personally have the power to take control of many more aspects of their lives, both mental and physical

4. Positive Self-Esteem

I do things well because I’m that kind of person.

I'd rather be somebody else.

Recognizing their uniqueness they develop and maintain their own high standards.

Ten Qualities of a Total Winner

5. Positive Self-Awareness

I know who I am, where I coming from and where I'm going.

Who knows what I could do if I only had the chance.

Winners know who they are, what they believe, their role in life, their personal potential-and the future roles and goals which will mark fulfillment of that potential.

Action Qualities

6. Positive Self-Motivation

I want to…and I can. I can't because…

This positive self-motivation of total winners derives from two sources: (1) their self-expectant personal and world view and (2) their awareness that fear and desire are among the greatest motivators

8. Positive Self-Discipline

Of course I can do it. I've practiced it mentally a thousand time.

How can you expect me to do it? I don't know how.

Positive self-discipline is the ability to practice within. They know that thoughts begets habit and they discipline their thoughts to create the habit of superb performance-the mark of the total winner.

Four Characteristics of a Winner2. A Winner Must Set High Goals "If you are aiming at nothing, you'll hit it

every time." People who set goals may not always reach

them, but they will almost always achieve more than those who set no goals at all.

Who has never tasted what is bitter does not know what is sweet.

Page 15: Being a Winner

Example: Glen Cunningham

Satisfaction does not come with achievement, but with effort. Full effort is full victory.

Page 16: Being a Winner

REAL LIFE INCIDENTS “DON’T QUIT”

Failures are stepping stones for success When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he tried over 2000

experiments before he got it to work. A young reporter asked him how it felt to fail so many times. He said, "I never failed once. I invented the light bulb. It just happened to be a 2000-step process".

A school teacher scolded a boy for not paying attention to his mathematicsand for not being able to solve simple problems. She told him that you would not become anybody in life. The boy was Albert Einstein.

A small boy--the fifth amongst seven siblings of a poor father, was selling newspapers in a small village to earn his living. He was not exceptionally smart at school but was fascinated by religion and rockets. The first rocket he built crashed. A missile that he built crashed multiple times and he was made a butt of ridicule. He is the person to have scripted the Space Odyssey of India single-handedly. He is Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. President of India.

Page 23: Being a Winner

6 STEPS TO ASSURE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

4. Assume that whatever situation you are facing at the moment is exactly the right situation you need to ultimately be successful.

5. In every challenge, look for a valuable lesson.6. Whenever you have a goal that is unachievable, a

difficulty that is unresolved, or a problem that is blocking you from getting where you want to go, sit down with a pen and pencil make a list. The more you think on paper, the more you will take control over your conscious mind and focus it where you want.
