WHY WE USE PROPS Within a film or any form of visual media text, there’s the micro-

element of mise-en-scene. This element covers all that is within the frame of the scene: Lighting Costume Positioning of Characters Hair & Make-up Setting Props

Therefore when trying to create a believable world that the audiences are able to identify with (verisimilitude), it’s very important to take these things into account or the framing of the scenes would look odd. Hence why we have thought through the props we are to use very carefully.

CLASS ROOMWhen we are filming in the classroom we

need to make sure that the setting is believable. Therefore we have incorporated many props that would improve the verisimilitude of the scene. We have included such things as:

Student’s Papers Tables Chairs Stationary Utensils Folders Bookcase Teachers Desk

We’ve based our choices upon looking at typical classrooms and how they are set up and the usual things that they contain.

LUCYFor Lucy, we chose props that would

emphasise her innocence and youth. We hoped that by using the list of props below the audiences would be able to catch on to how innocent she as a young girl is and how she still views the world with a child’s mind frame.

Putting her innocence aside, after the unfortunate event we have to show that Lucy has now become pregnant and we do this by using a:

Pregnancy Test

MR.WILKSFor Mr.Wilks, we did not use many props as we decided that costume

would portray his character more accurately. However, to show his professional life we used a “Leather Black Bag” as it implies he’s quite a dull and simple teacher.

Then after the unfortunate event we show him drinking from a “Beer Bottle” as well as placing other beer bottles around the living room, to show him in a new light that is not so nice and pleasant.

STUDENT IN DETENTION

For the student in detention we gave props that would connote to the audience his bad behaviour. Therefore we used props that would usually be associated with rebellious teenagers of teenagers that were usually seen around street corners. In addition to that we also had to make sure that it was clear the student was in detention so we used props that those within detention would have.
