Vocabulary Task, Page 1 Vocabulary Task— I’m hungry…Let’s go to Subway Vocabulary Task Objective : To use vocabulary regarding food to order a meal. Setting : It’s after class and you are very hungry. You decide to go to Subway for lunch. Age : Adolescent+ Level : Beginning+ Heterogeneous ESL Class Materials : Flash cards of vegetables, meat, cheese, condiments, chips, six inch and foot long subs, types of bread, and drinks without words. Orders with pictures of same. See attached sample order and flash cards. Problem to be solved : Getting the sub sandwich with the correct size, bread, cheese and toppings you want as well as the right drink and chips. Pre-Task: 1) Teacher reviews food vocabulary (include sizes of sub sandwiches ), ordering at a fast food restaurant and telling the clerk that your order was wrong. 2) Teacher sets up Subway clerk and customer stations. 3) Teacher creates different orders for each student. 4) Teacher also makes copies of the food pictures for the clerks cuts them out and inserts them into envelopes—one for each clerk. NOTE: I included the words for teacher reference only. Please make sure the words are not included when cutting out the flashcards for the store clerks. Task : 1) Divide the students into pairs: one is the Subway clerk and the other is the customer. 2) Give the customers an order sheet with pictures of the size of sub, bread, cheese, toppings, chips and drink they want. They cannot show the clerk the order. 3) The customers have to place their order using the vocabulary they have learned. Give the clerks flash cards of the food. They must prepare the order according to what the customer says.

Vocabulary Task Im hungryLets go to Subway

Vocabulary Task Objective: To use vocabulary regarding food to order a meal.
