Through this publication, from the Bértiz´s Tourist Consortium,we would like to offer the visitor a useful and complete guide

of all the activities available in our region: interesting places tovisit, a network of walking paths and hiking tracks, the festiveand cultural calendar, as well as a guide of services and other

general information that might be of interest to the visitor.The Bertiz´s Tourist consortium was founded in 1992 with theobjective of promoting tourism development in the towns and

valleys of Zugarramurdi and Urdazubi, Baztan, Bertizarana,Malerreka and Bortziriak. At present, Urdazubi, Zugarramurdi,

Baztan, Bertizarana, Ituren, Zubieta,Oitz, Urrotz, Donamaria, Beintza-Labaien, Sunbilla, Igantzi,

Arantza and Etxalar´s town councils and the professional asso-ciations of Touristic farmhouses, Campsites, Hotels, Restau-

rants, Bars, Service Companies and Craftsmen are theparticipants in the committee. It is worth

mentioning that all the establishments associated with theTourism consortium have an identity plaque with the logo of

This valley have been inhabited since thousands years ago and as testify are the big number of megalithic monumentsof their peaks. It has passed along the History with a marked personality that make it known around all the world.Into their specifys, the University status and the universal nobleman granted to all the inhabitants from the valley in theXVth century have been the most relevants and betwen them they have proliferate intellectuals, countables, businessmen,militarys, ecclesiastical charges, and after them prospered indianos.Passing zone, since the age of Saint James way and with prosper comerce, it gather the french influence, basque cultureand navarre´s character...and selfish.

Cette vallée à ètait habitée depuis millier an-nées, comme témoingnent le grand nombre demonumets megalithiques de ses sommets. “ITXUSI ROCKS” NATURE RESERVE Spectacular beech and oak forests. The most relevantanimal in this area is the tawny vulture.

“IRUBETAKASKOA” NATURE RESERVEThis peak of 955m. altitude, is known like Alkaxuri tooand there is a natural alder forest very strange for thisarea.

Z.E.C. ALDUIDE MOUNTAINAlduide mountain is declared like Special ConservationArea (ZEC), because it is the biggest beech forest of Na-varre. It is known like “Quinto Real” too, that is a historicplace name of the middle age.

L.I.C. BELATEBelate is declared like Communal Importance Place(L.I.C.) into de Natura 2000 net, because of having somestrange natural habitats where we can stand out the “tur-beras” and threatened fauna and flora species. They aresome signposted paths to know the natural and culturalvalues like the Roman road, the Santa Maria of Belatechapel and the ancient pilgrim guesthouse of the SaintJames Way of Urdax- Baztan.

HARRIKULUNKAIt is a big stone, situated at 955 m. hight, in the Argibelmountain. This stone is in balance on other smaller stoneand jumping on it we can see its swing. One legend tellus that Roldan throw this stone from the Auza mountain( 1.306 m ).

HELL´S MILLThis ancient mill is surrounded by a big forest, almost insuspension between two hillsides and where a waterfallfall unther it, forming a very beautiful scenery.

RÈSERVE NATURELLE “IRUBETAKASKOA”Cette cime de 955m. est aussi conue comme Alkaxuri et ily a une alisier très rare dans cette région.

Z.E.C. MONTAGNE D´ALDUDE (QUINTO REAL)La montagne d´Aldude c´est déclarée comme Zone de Spé-cial Conservation (ZEC), parce que c´est le plus grand forêtd´hayes à Navarre. C´est aussi connue comme “QuintoReal”, un toponyme du Moyen âge.

L.I.C. BELATEBelate c´est déclarée comme Lieu d´Importance Commu-nautaire (LIC), dans le réseau Natura 2000, pour avoirquelques habitat naturelles rares, dans lesquelles on peutremarquer les “turberas” et quelques spèces de faune etflore menacées. Il y a quelques randonées signalisées pourconaître les valeurs culturelles et naturelles comme lachaussée Romaine, l´ermitage se Santa Maria de Belate, etl´ancien auberge des pélerins du Chemin de Saint Jaquesd´Urdax-Baztan.

HARRIKULUNKAC´est une grande pierre, située à 955m. d´atitude, dans lamontagne d´Argibel. Cette pierre est en équilibre sur uneautre plus petite et si on saute sur la pierre, on peut voir sabasculation. Une légende raconte que Roldan avait lancéecette pierre de la montagne Auza (1.306m.).

LE CHÂTEAU D´AMAIUR Le château d´Amaiur c´etait le derniere endroit pour la dé-fense du Royaume de Navarre à 1522. Aujourd´hui, onpeut observer les vestiges du château et le monolithe cons-truite au XX. Siecle, pour faire honneur a tous les person-nes qui avait tombées dans la guerre.

CASCADE DE XORROXINSpectaculaire cascade située à 2,5km. du village d´Erratzuà laquelle on arrive à pied par un sentier marqué. C´est l´en-droit de la source de la rivière Baztan, qui après, dans sonparcours, change son nom par Bidasoa.

XORROXIN’S CASCADEThe Xorroxin´s cascade is situated to 2,5km. From the vi-llage of Erratzu and the only way to arrive is walking alonga marked path. Is the place where the Baztan river havehis source and in the route they take the name Bidasoa.

URDAZUBI/URDAX The caves of IkaburuaThey are located in the Leorlas neighbourhood of Urda-zubi and they date from between 20.000-30.000 yearsbefore Christ and we must highlight too the formationsof stalactites and stalagmites. At a constant temperatureof 14º and accompany of the river Urtxuma, the legendsaid that they are used to be the gathering point of thelamias, mythological creatures similar to nymphs. SAINT SAVIOR MONASTERYIt was the only monastery that the "premonstratense"order founded in the Kingdom of Navarra and it was foun-ded with the ecclesiastical influence that proclaimed the

austerity. MONASTÈRE DE SAINT SAVEURIl est le seul monastère que l´ordre de Prémontré a fondédans le Royaume de Navarre. Il fut fondé sous le principed’austérité que préconisaient les courants religieux del´époque. Le cloître est de la fin du XVII siècle et il nousoffre une exposition d´art basque. ZUGARRAMURDI Cave of the witchesConsists in a great natural tunnel (120 meters wide inthe biggest part of the main gallery), and a stream goingthrough it on the outskirts of the town.This cave is very famous because Witches used to cele-brate their Sabbaths in it. At 2.610, 40 people weremade prisoners and taken to a court charged with practi-sing witch-craft. Nowadays there is an explanatory histo-rical and biological tour of about 2 km.

ROUTE OF THE CAVESThere is a route that connects the caves of Urdazubi, Zu-garramurdi and Sara.

MUSEUM OF THE WITCHESSituaten in the ancient hospital, the museum collect his-tories of Zugarramurdi´s witches until the Logroño´s in-quisition process in the XVI century. Helped with themost advanced tecnology, offers a different vision of thewitchcraft.

ZUGARRAMURDI Grottes des sorciéresIl s’agit d’un grand tunnel naturel (120m. de largeur dansla partie la plus ouverte), traversé par un ruisseau (« del’enfer ») à l’extérieur du village.La renommé de ces grottes est due à la présence des Sor-cières et aux Akelarre (réunions nocturnes de sorcières)que l’on y célébrait. Une quarantaine de voisins furent ac-cusés de sorcellerie au jugement de l’inquisition en 1.610.Actuellement on peut suivre un parcours interprétatif, tanthistorique que biologique d’à peu près 2 km.

PARCOURS DES GROTTESIl existe un parcours qui unit les grottes de Urdazubi, Zu-garramurdi et Sare.

MUSÉE DES SORCIÈRESSitué à l’ancien hôpital, le musée réunit les histories dessorcières de Zugarramurdi jusqu’au jugement inquisitorialde Logroño, au XVIème siècle. Avec l’aide de la technologiela plus avancée, il offre un point de vue différent de la sor-cellerie.

OIEREGI Bértiz Natural ParcSituated in Oieregi, the Natural Parc, also declared C.I.P.

(Communal interesting place), have one expansion of

2.040 hectars and we can differentiate the historic gar-

den (4 hectars) with the exotic species of all around the

world and the native wood.

Inside of the area of the garden they are a sensory route,

adapted for handicapped, one little hold back, the Baz-

tan´s river viewpoint, one chapel, the palace with exhibi-

tions, the natural parc´s model and the nature

interpretation centre with the audiovisual about the na-

tural parc. Posibility of guided visits for groups.

In the area of the wood they are some routes betwen 1km.

And 22 km. to enjoy wolking the wood of native species,

and one of them is adapted for the birdvatc ing.

Here, we can find the palace of Aizkolegi, one limema-

king and one coalmaking places too.

Into the parc services, they are the tourist office, hand-

craft shop, parking, children park, sculptures, picnic area

with barbecue, toilets, and the central office of the Bertiz

Tourist Consortium.

LEGASA, NARBARTE and OIEREGIThis three villages form the valey of Bertizarana. We can

enhance the whole of the ancient buildings with shields

of the valey.

OIEREGI Parque Naturel de BertizSitué dans la commune de Oieregi, le Parc Naturel aussi

décláré L.I.C.(Lieu d´importance communitaire), a une sur-

face de 2040 hectares où l’on se différencient d’un côté le

jardin historique de 4 hectares avec des espèces exotiques

de tout lemonde, et d’autre côté la fôret autochtone.

Dans l’aire du jardin il y a un parcours sensoriel adapté aux

handicapés et aussi un petit bassin, le belvédère de la ri-

vière Baztan, une petite chapelle, le palais avec des expo-

sitions, la maquette du parc et le centre d’interpretation de

la nature avec un audiovisuel sur le Parc Naturel. Option

des visites guidées pour des groupes.

Dans l’aire de la forêt il y a plusieurs parcours d’entre

1 km. et 22 km. pour pouvoir profiter sur le terrain de la

forêt des espèces autochtones, entre lesquels il y en a un

pour l’observation des oiseaux. Il y a aussi le Palais de Aiz-

kolegi, un tour à chaux et une charbonnière.

Entre les services du parc se trouvent le bureau de tou-

risme, le magasin d’artisanat, le parking, parc pour les en-

fants, sculptures, une buvette avec una barbecue, wc

publics et aussi le site du Conseil Touristique de Bertiz.

OITZThis town is on the left bank of the river Ameztia, whichruns under a Medieval bridge. The parish is dedicated toSan Tiburcio and a parish cross carved in 1.600 is themost important element of its furniture.They preserve the square for the traditional play of“laxoa” (pelota with gloves).+info: www.oitz.org

URROTZ and BEINTZA LABAIENUrrotz and Beintza Labaien own the lands of the “LeurtzaReservoirs” recreational Natural Area.

LEURTZA RESERVOIRSTwo small reservoirs in the middle of a magnificent beechwood stand out in this Recreatinal Natural Area.The beauty of this natural spot makes it an ideal placefor recreation and leisure activities. The grass frog is themost interesting animal among the varied fauna ofthis area.

SUNBILLAThis town is interesting because of its weallth of monu-ments, wich date mainly from the XVIIth century.The town is divided into two neighbourhoods connec edto each other by a stone bridge with several spans.There are one bronze sculpture of the mythical axecuterLatasa. As regards gastronomy, the local pastryrolls are very popular.

OITZCe village se trouve à la rive gauche du ruisseau Ameztia,sur lequel se dresse un vieux point du moyen âge. URROTZ et BEINTZA LABAIENUrrotz et Beintza Labaien partagent la propriété des terrainsde l’Aire Naturelle de Loisirs « Barrages de Leurtza ».

LES BARRAGES DE LEURTZAAire Naturelle de Loisirs où ressortent deux petits barragesau milieu d’une magnifique forêt d’ hêtres.La beauté de cet endroit natural le fait devenir un espaceidéal pour la détente et la récréation. Dans la région de Baztan-Bidasoa, les abon-

dantes précipitations du climat atlantique, les

prés étendus et le travail agricole et des éle-

veurs de bestiaux, garantissent des produits de

première qualité. Ainsi, la gastronomie de la ré-

gion est attachée aux plats de viande de veau,

d´agneau et de porc (côtelettes, jambon, chis-

torra, échine, lard…) et aussi aux produits du

jardin, comme poireaux, haricots, laitues, to-

mates, piments et pommes de terre.

Les produits laitiers sont aussi très appréciés:

le plus remarqué est le fromage de brebis de

race “latxa”, un producteur de Bertizarana

ayant obtenu la médaille d´or du concours de

toutes les Pyrénées. A plusieurs villages de la

région il y a aussi d’autres excellents fromages.

Le lait caillé et le riz au lait sont aussi très pré-

sents aux desserts.

De toute façon, les plats les plus typiques sont

le “xuri ta beltx” (ragoût avec des tripes d´ag-

neau), le “Baztan-zopa” (soupe de graisse

d´agneau et du pain qui se mange avec four-

chette), le saumon, la truite et les dérivées du

canard. Pendant la saison d´automne, les

champignons, les marrons et les plats de

chasse, enrichissent la gastronomie locale, comme les plats de pigeons, sangliers ou boursiers.

Pour déguster ces délicieux plats, il y a une grande offre de restaurants dans toute la région et tous vérifient la qualité

et variété de la gastronomie locale.

Into the Baztan-Bidasoa region, the abundant rainfallsfrom the atlantic climate, the vast fields and their far-ming and ranching organization, guarantee first qualityproducts. So, the local gastronomy is binded to beef,lamb and pork plates (chops, ham, chistorra, loin,bacon…) and vegetable garden´s products too, likeleeks, beans, pods, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers andpotatoes.

Milky products are very deeply-rooted too: We can en-hance the “lacha” sheep cheese, with a producer fromBertizarana who had win the gold medal of a competi-tion of all the pyrenees and other excellents cheesesfrom some villages of the region. Other milkyes like the

curd or the rice with milk are present in the desserts.

However, the most popular plates are the “xuri tabeltx” (lamb´s intestine´s stew), the “Baztan-zopa”(lamb´s fat an bread soupe that we eat with fork), thesalmon, the trout and products derived from the ducks.In autum, the fungus, the chestnuts and the huntingplates, enrich the local gastronomy, like the pigeon,wild boar or “becada”`s plates.

To taste these delicious plates, they are a big offer ofrestaurants around all the region and in all them wecan check the quality and variety of the local gastro-nomy.

Il a quelques ans, l'Association des "Amis du Chemin de SaintJacques de Urdax-Baztan" a été créé, avec l'objectif de dévelop-per et faire connaître une autre voie du Chemin de Saint Jacques,moins connue mais pas moins importante (à l'époque): celle quiparcourait dès la fontrière à Urdax jusqu'à Pampelune, traversantla belle vallée du Baztan et le port de Belate. Au passage par plu-sieurs villages, on peut encore voir des restes des chaussées,chapelles et d'autres monuments historiques d'haute valeur etsymbolisme. Cette voie est composée de 6 étapes:

THE GREEN ROUTE OF THE BIDASOA-EUROVELOThe Green Route of the Bidasoa is an important touristic re-source from the Baztan-Bidasoa region that is administred bythe Bertiz Touristic Consortium. It has 52 kms long, from Be-hobia (Bordering neighborhood from Irun) until Elizondo (Baz-tan valley), passing by the towns of Lesaka, Igantzi, Sunbilla,Doneztebe, Legasa, Narbarte, Oieregi and Baztan.In this moment, 41 kms are passable, from Behobia until theBertiz Natural Parc. There are mountain bike renting services and logements nearthe green route of the Bidasoa.

EUROVELO PROJECT The eurovelo are an European network of cycling routes thatmake up a big European project: The EuroVelo project. Twelvebig routes cross the continent from the north to the south, pas-sing into the main cities ant touristic areas. EuroVelo is an an-cient project of the European Cyclist Federation (ECF),institution which includes 52 assosiations from all Europe andit represents more than 400.000 cyclists. These big routes arebeing reality, piece by piece in each country.

The Bertiz Touristic Consortium, with the “Conseil Général desPyrénées Atlantiques” and Bidasoa Activa and the councils ofGhétary, San Juan de Luz, Hendaya, Hondarribia and Irun havepresented the projecto to equip the eurovelo nº1, from Ghétaryuntil Doneztebe, because the tracing planned by the driving ofthe eurovelos pass by the route of our project of Green route ofthe Bidasoa.

In our case, the Government of Navarre finance the projectjointly and is the crux of the agreement between the Consor-tium and the Government derived from the Strategic plan forthe development of tourist products of Bertiz.

INFORMATION OF THE PHASESPhase Behobia-Endarlatsa-AlkaiagaThe Behobia-Bera phase (Alkaiaga neighborhood from Lesaka)is passable.It has 9-10 kms between Behobia and Endarlatsa and from En-darlatsa until the Alkaiaga neighborhood (Lesaka) they are 5kms. Attention: second tunnel without light. We recommendbring a lantern or pass it walking.

Phase Lesaka (Alkaiaga) - Lesaka (Hotel Bereau´s bridge)Passable phase. 3 kms approximately.

Phase Lesaka (Hotel Bereau´s bridge) - Igantzi (Berrizaun)Passable phase. Gas works finished, waiting for improvementsby the Government of Navarre.4 kms approximately.

Phase Igantzi (Berrizaun) – SunbillaThis phase is in bad state but is passable. Gas works finished.12 kms approximately. In the tunnel of Sunbilla is recommen-ded to bring a lantern and pass it walking. It was repaired pro-visionally for the mountain bike ride in september 2010, andin 2011 it will be improved, but while they do it, it is recco-mended to pass it with precaution. In the Sunbilla´s phase, itis necessary to respect the animals and neighbor´s cars thatlives in the houses near the Green Route.

Phase Sunbilla – LegasaThe pahase of Sunbilla-Doneztebe is in good conditions. 3,5kms approximately.In Legasa one phase is cemented that improves the passage.From Doneztebe until Legasa: 3,5 kms approximatelly.

NOTE: During the 2011, it will be doing the improvementworks in the Green Route of Bidasoa and this information willchange during this year.

VOIE VERTE DE LA BIDASSOA - EUROVELO

La voie verte de la Bidasoa est une importante ressource touris-

tique de la région du Baztan-Bidasoa (nord de la Navarre) gérée

par le Consorcio Touristique de Bertiz. Elle a une longueur de 52

km., dès Behobia (quartier de la frontière à Irun) à Elizondo (va-

llée du Baztan), en traversant les comunes de Lesaka, Igantzi,

Sunbilla, Doneztebe, Legasa, Narbarte, Oieregi et Baztan.

En ce moment 41 km sont praticables, dès Behobia jusqu’au

Parc Naturel Señorío de Bertiz.

Tout au long de la voie verte de la Bidassoa il y a des services de

location de vélos, et des hebergeurs placés sur la voie.

PROJET EUROVELOLes eurovelos sont un réseau de pistes cyclables qui consitituent

un gran projet européen: le projet Eurovelo. Douce grands itine-

raires qui traverseront le continent d’un bout à l’autre, en passant

par les principales villes et zones touristiques. Eurovelo est un

ancien projet de la Fédération de Cyclistes européens (ECF), en-

tité qui regroupe 52 associations de toute l’Europe et qui repré-

sente plus de 400.000 cyclistes. Ces 12 grands itinéraires sont

en train de se matérialiser section à section à chaque pays.

Le Consorcio Touristique de Bertiz, avec le Conseil Général des

Pyrénées Atlantiques et Bidasoa Activa et les mairies de Ghétary,

Saint Jean de Luz, Hendaye, Fontarrabie e Irun ont présenté le

projet d’aménagement de l’eurovélo nº1, entre Ghétary et Donez-

tebe-Santesteban, puisque le tracé établi par les promoteurs des

eurovelos passe sur le tracé de notre projet de voie verte de la

Bidasoa.

A l’égard du Consorcio, c’est le Gouvernement de Navarre qui

cofinance, en cohérence avec le caractère central de cet élément

dans la convention entre le Consorcio et le Gouvernement qui

découle du Plan Stratégique de Développement de Produits Tou-

ristiques de Bertiz.

INFORMATION PAR TRONÇONS

Tronçon Behobia-Endarlatsa-AlkaiagaLe tronçon Behobia-Bera (quartier Alkaiaga de Lesaka) est pra-

ticable.

kms:entre 9 et 10 kms dès Behobia jusqu’à Endarlatsa. Dès En-

darlatsa jusqu’au quartier de Alkaiaga (Lesaka), 5 kms. Atent-

tion: seconde tunnel sans illumination. Conseillé frontal ou

traverser à pied.

Tronçon Lesaka (Alkaiaga) - Lesaka (pont hôtel Bereau)Tronçon praticable.3 kms environ.

Tronçon Lesaka (pont hôtel Bereau) - Igantzi (Berrizaun)Tronçon praticable. Une fois finis les travaux du gazoduc, il ne

manque que l’intervention d’améliorement de la part du Gouver-

nement de Navarre. 4 kms.environ.

Tronçon Igantzi (Berrizaun) – SunbillaTronçon en mauvais état, mais praticable. Travaux du gazoduc

finis.12 kms environ. Au tunnel de Sunbilla il est conseillé de por-

ter un frontal ou une lampe et il est préférible le traverser à pied.

Il a été amélioré de manière provisoire lors de la marche btt de

septembre 2010 et en 2011 il va être aménagé, mais pendant

ce temps il est conseillé de le traverser avec attention. Dans la

partie de Sunbilla il faut respecter le passage de bétail et de vé-

hicles des voisins qui habitent aux fermes voisines dont l’accès

est par la Voie Verte.

Tronçon Sunbilla – LegasaTronçon Sunbilla-Doneztebe en bon état. 3,5 kms environ.

A Legasa il y a un tronçon bétonné, qui améliore le passage. Dès

Doneztebe a Legasa: 3,5 kms environ.

NOTE: Au cours de l’année 2011 des travaux d’aménagement

de la Voie Verte de la Bidasoa vont être réalisés et cette informa-

tion restant fixe pourra ne pas être valable.

The route connects the towns of Ituren and Zubieta, and runs close to the band of Ezkurra

stream. At Shrovetide it meets the path of the ioaldunak from Ituen to Aurtitz; from there

it goes to Zubieta through the side of the mountain instead of through the road.

Parcours unissant les villages d’Ituren et de Zubieta, bordant la rivière Ezkurra. Il rejoint le

chemin qu’empruntent les ioaldunak pendant les fêtes de Carnaval dans le tronçon que va

d’Ituren à Aurtitz ; de là à Zubieta, au lieu de suivre la route goudronnée, il passe par le

P.R. NA-6 “ARITZAKUN” Liburuko atekak-Antsestegi // Aritzakun-Washington -Liburuko atekak

Route along Aritzakun stream. In the first stretch the landscape is open, ridge after ridge,

and there are beautiful views of the coast. In Gorospil pass (the outstanding milestone

of the region), the route runs very close to the stream. Here we can see the pelota court

of Aritzakun valley, the old school and the old Roman mines (“The corner of the mines”).

The laste stretch is very steep. The end of the route goes along ridges and asphalt roads.

Par la valleé d’Aritzakun. La première partie offre un paysage ouvert, de crête en crête, avec

de magnifiques vues de la côte. Au col de Gorospil (à voir la pierre marquant la limite de la

région), le chemin s’enfonce dans le creux de la rivière. Possibilité de voir le fronton de la

vallée d’Aritzakun, la vieille école et les mines de l’époque des Romains (« Minetako zokoa

»). Dernier tronçon pentu. Par contre, la fin du parcours suit la crête par un chemin gou-

cronné.

P.R. NA-4 “BAZTANGOIZA” Arizkun-Azpilkueta-Urrasun-Amaiur // San Migel (Bozate)-Arizkun

A tour around the Baztangoiza region across towns, oak woods and fields. There are paths,

tracks, asphalt and cement roads. The paved stretches of the Road to Santiago are outs-

tanding (Urrasun-Amaiur-Arizkun). We will see many chapels: San Frantzisko in Apaio,

Santiago in Urrasun and San Miguel in Bozate. The route can be made shorter in Urrasun

if we take the GR-65 “Road to Santiago” to Arizkun.

Dans la région de Baztangoiza, de village en village, traversant des chênaies et des prairies,

et St. Michel à Bozate. D’Urrasun on peut écourter le parcours, en suivant la GR-65 « San-

tiagoko Bidea »( Chemin de St. Jacques ) jusqu’à Arizkun.

In the border between Baztan and Etxalar, next to the river, stands the Waterwheel from

Hell, a witness of wars and smuggler times. The waterwheel is built over the stream from

Hell.

A la limite du Baztan et d’Etxalar, dans le creux de la rivière, se trouve le Moulin de l’Enfer,

témoin de l’époque des guerres et des contrebandiers. Le moulin est construit sur la rivière

de l’Enfer.

P.R. NA-3“BEARTZUN” Beartzun-Belaungo lepoa-Berderitz // Basabar-Irlintzi-Beartzun

Route around the mountains of the Beartzun neighbourhood of Elizondo. We climb the

steep path to Belun pass (500m) through a beech wood (there we can visit “harriku-

lunka” a big swaying rock). The views are wonderful. From Bederitz pass we go to Urruska

house (rural guesthouse) and through the ridge we arrive at Basabar. From Irlintzi pass

we go to Beartzun(we can also get to Elizondo if we go along the ridge).

Parcours à travers les monts du quartier Beartzun d’Elizondo. Montée à forte pente au col

de Belaun (500 m) traversant une hêtraie (de là on peut visiter « harrikilinka »). Belles vues.

Du col de Berderitz à la maison urruska (gîte rural) et de la crête de la montagne à Basa-

barre. Du col d’Irlintzi on peut descendre à Elizondo par la crête de la montagne.

Tour to Santa Maria chapel departing from Belate hill; we take GR-12 and GR-65, and

arrive at the passing point of the Road to Santiago (from there we can see the pass of

the Chapel, with a magnificient road and pillars to indicate the way). Taking the road

next to Aratxuri stream we return to Bealate.

Parcours allant du haut de Belate à la chapelle Santa María, GR-12 et GR-65 lieu de pasaje

du Chemin de St. Jacques (à voir le col d’Ermita, une chaussée admirable et des menhirs

signalant le chemin). Revenir à Belate par la chaussée qui longe la rivière Aratxuri.

P.R. NA-1 “ABARTAN” Ziga-Elorregiko lepoa -Berroeta-Aniz-Ziga

A trek around the Basaburua region. We go up the steep path to Elorregi pass, crossing

old oak woods and sheepfolds. In Elorregi pass, on the side of Abartan mountain, we will

see prehistoric remains (a dolmen and a menhir). We can enjoy the magnificent views of

Baztan and clim Abartan mountain. Taking a wide path we go down to Berroeta through

beech woods and fields. From there we go around Zigara through the GR-65 Road to an-

tiago, going past the town of Aniz.

Parcours par la région de Basaburua. Montée à forte pente au col d’Elorregi, traversant des

chênaies centenaires et des bergeries. Au col d’Elorregi, sur le flanc du mont Abartan, des

vestiges préhistoriques (dolmen et menhir). Vues splendides sur la vallée de Baztan et pos-

sibilité de monter au mont Abartan. Descente sur Berroeta à travers des hêtraies et des

prairies, sur un chemin large. De là, retour à Ziga par le Chemin de St. Jacques GR-65, en

passant à côté du village d’Aniz.

The region of Baztan-Bidasoa offers one privileged natural environment for fonds of the bicycle touring and the mountain

bike. There are rides for all type of levels, where we can enjoy of singular places like the ancient railway of Bidasoa.

These routes runs through marked walking paths and little routes with very few traffic, between forests that changes

their colour in each season, protected natural areas, hills, rivers and for the most experienced there are some routes to

go to the top of the mountains to see spectacular viewes…

Baztan-Bidasoa offre un environnement naturel privilégié aux amants du cyclotourisme et la VTT. Il y a des parcours de tout

type de difficulté, où on peut profiter d´endroits aussi singuliers comme l´ancienne voie du train de la Bidasoa. Ces parcours

passent sur des chemins aménagés pour les randonneurs et des routes à traffic faible entre les forêts qui changent leurs

couleurs chaque saison, des aires naturelles protégées , de petites montagnes, des rivières et pour le plus expérimentés il

y a également des parcours jusqu’aux sommets avec des vues spectaculaires…

NOTES1. It doesn´t exists specific signs for the mountain bike routes

and it is reccommended to be well informated before start the

routes, but in many cases there are tracks for the gps.

2. Always wear a helmet.

3. Give right of way to pedestrians and observe all traffic signs.

4. Bertiz´s Tourist Consortium cannot be held responsible for

the incorrect use of tracks or for reckless cycling by users.

5. If you are going to be cycling alone, tell the staff at the wel-

come centre which route you are going to follow.

6. Before you set off, make sure that your bike is in proper wor-

king order, check the weather forecast and find out as much

as you can about the route.

7. Don’t forget to take some water, a repair kit and your mobile

phone.

8. Respect fencing and close gates behind you.

9. Respect the environment, the towns or villages you cycle

through and any animals you come across.

10. Enjoy nature, without noise or haste.

NOTES1. Il n´y a pas de signal spécifiques pour les routes en VTTet c´est recommandable d´être bien informées avant commencer la route, mais beaucoup de foix il y a des trackspour le gps.2.
