O n July 8, 2016, the government of The Bahamas, which had a 90% black population, issued a trav- el warning to its citizens going to the U.S. The warning cited “shootings of young black males by police officers” in U.S. cities and advised Bahamians to exercise “extreme caution” in any dealings they might have with American police. During the year the government took steps toward full imple- mentation of affordable uni- versal health-care coverage through the creation of the National Health Insurance (NHI) program.
