Christmas in Bahamas is also about celebration of freedom. It is believed that the chief of an African tribe John Canoe demanded that slaves of the tribe be allowed to celebrate Christmas their own people. He got his people the right of celebration even in slavery

Bahamas Christmas is not complete without Junkanoo celebration. The festival started sometime in the 16th or 17th century when slaves were given a special holiday on the Christmas Day. The tradition continues to this day and people take a lot of pride in celebrating the festival in their own way

The biggest draw of the carnival is a costume parade. People participate in the parade dressed in different types of colorful costumes.
