Information Gathering• Students will
o Learn effective ways to use search engineso Practice search techniques to find specific
information • Ways these tasks may be accomplished
o Have students write small research papers on topics assigned by a teacher.
o Have small groups of students research a historical topic or figure and present the information they learned to the rest of the class.
Evaluating Information Validity
• Students willo Learn signs that information may be invalido Learn how to identify a source as
trustworthyo Learn how to identify and if possible
compensate for bias in information• Ways these tasks may be accomplished
o Look at in class examples of trustworthy websites and untrustworthy websites
o Evaluate biases in historical accounts and documents as a class then have students do it themselves with more current sources
Evaluate Importance of Information
• Students willo Learn how to pick out the most valuable
information from what they have gathered• Ways to accomplish this task
o Give students worksheets with information on a certain topic from which they have to choose the five most important facts.
o Give students guidelines in earlier essays or presentations to show examples of information they should be finding on a particular topic.
Final Project
• Combine skills in information use with knowledge of European history
• Students will be given freedom to demonstrate what they have learned in the classo Students will be able to choose their own
topic which relates to European history from the Reconnaissance to the present
o Students will choose for themselves to present the information they gather in a presentation, paper, creative project, or some combination of the above.
