has covered a long eventful journey since its inception in the year 1962. It is extremely fortunate and blessed to be located at Bodh-Gaya, where Lord Buddha got enlightenment. This was possible because of the generous gesture of the Mahantha of Bodh-Gaya, who donated 470 acres of land at a distance of 2 km. from the Mahabodhi Temple, where the headquarter of the University has come up. Bodh-Gaya, a sacred place of pilgrimage, a unique centre of Buddhist learning and the ancient seat of Vajrasana as well as symbol of enlightenment, sublimity and compassion, is the headquarter of Magadh University. The University headquarter is situated at a distance of 15 km. from Gaya city and is well connected with Rail, Road and Airways. International Airport is situated near the University headquarter from where National and International flights are available for major cities. BodhGaya is a World Heritage Centre attracting large number of tourists specially from Far East and Western countries. Students of Thailand, Vietnam, Burma and other Buddhist countries are studying in regular courses at the University headquarter and it is expected that apart from students of these countries the students of other South Asian Countries will also be benefitted through distance mode of learning, being offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya.

Magadh University is situated in a lush green and pollution & noise-fee atmosphere. The University provides facilities for higher learning and research in the faculties of Science, Social Sciences, Humanities and Commerce.

The University started functioning from 2nd March, 1962 with only 2 constituent colleges, 32 affiliated colleges and 7 P. G. Departments. In 1992, seventeen constituent colleges were transferred to the newly created V. K. Singh University, Arrah (Bhojpur). The University at present has grown into a vast institution having 24 Post-graduate departments, 44 constituent colleges and 85 affiliated colleges imparting higher education in Humanities, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Medical, Engineering & Management courses. Several professional / vocational courses like M.B.A., M.C.A., B.C.A., B.B.M., Environmental Science, Tourism & Travel Management, Counselling & Rehabilitation, Journalism & Mass Communication, etc. are being run in different constituent/ affiliated colleges of the University. There are two Govt. Medical Colleges, two private Engineering Colleges, two private Dental Colleges and three Law Colleges under the University. Magadh University has enough land, buildings, computer Labs and other infrastructural felicities to impart quality education through distance mode of learning also.

Magadh University was established by the Government of Bihar under Bihar Act IV of 1961 on nd2 March, 1962, under the Magadh University Act of 1961, with its headquarter at BodhGaya. The

University is now governed by Bihar State University Act 1976. The University Grants Commission recognizes the University under 2(f) and 12 (b).

Division, Patna Division and over Nalanda District of Patna Division. The University is catering to the educational needs of the seven populous districts of Bihar i.e. Patna, Nalanda, Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Arwal.

The University has multi storied Central library, named as Mannulal Central Library, besides the departmental libraries. The central library has about 1,62,245 books, manuscripts and other reading materials. The University library is really a readers’ paradise, having a wide range of ancient & modern literature and books as well as National, International journals and research journals. It also provides student management, education, library science, tourism management, mass communication and computer science.

All the Science Departments including Psychology and Geography have well equipped laboratory for conducting practical and research purposes. The research facilities are available in all the University departments. The Science Labs are well equipped with latest equipments required for research.

There are eight huge hostels on the University campus having accommodation facilities for 1500 students. One Girls’ Hostel is also available to accommodate 150 girl students on the University campus. The application for a seat in the hostel should be submitted immediately after admission.

The University Health Centre-cum-Dispensary provides medical facilities to students; teachers and other employees residing in the university campus as well as out side the university campus round the clock. It has the service of doctors, nurses and sufficient number of supporting Para medical staff with indoor facilities besides full-fledged Yoga centre.

A fully computrised branch of Central Bank of India is functioning on the Campus. One S.B. I. ATM is also functional near the main gate round the clock to serve students and staff in the University premises. Post-Office has the facilities of speed post and other up-to-date service.

The University has adequate number of highly qualified, competent and dedicated faculty/academicians from diverse fields, who have got a long experience in teaching at the Under-graduate and Post-graduate level. At present there are 130 teachers working in the university departments and more than 2000 teachers posted in the constituent colleges of this University.

particularly athletic events. With the assistance of Sports Authority of India, New Delhi a sports training centre is to be established in near future.

Proficiency in computer applications has now obviously become integral part of every teaching and training curriculum. Since Magadh University is offering courses like MCA, BCA, Library and Information Sciences etc. along with other professional courses the need to setup an advanced computer centres has become inevitable. The University is developing a modern computer lab to meet the requirement of MCA teaching on the University campus. Besides the facilities for practical works in different courses available at the University headquarter, the constituent colleges of the University also have well equipped Computer and Language labs at different district headquarters.

Bihar is a densely populated state with a population of over 9 crores, having a low literacy rate in comparison to other states. As such, it is essential that Bihar Makes an all out efforts to leap forward in spreading education and improving its performance on the literacy front. The State has now,; about 2700 high schools, including 10+2 schools and 12 State run Universities. Every year, over 6 lakh students appear at the Secondary School Examination and nearly 70 percent of them get through. However, not all of them can get accommodated for higher education in institutions of conventional learning. Therefore, the system of education in distance mode has to play a major role in meeting the aspirations of such group of students, who are denied admission in conventional institutions. By providing them opportunities for higher studies through the distance mode of education it would be possible to strengthen higher education in the State of Bihar.

The Department of Education has been established with the permission of the State Govt. of Bihar & Rajbhawan. The Regulations of B. Ed. has been prepared and finalised by the statutory bodies of the University and approved by the Inter University Board (Bihar) and assented to His Excellency the Governor-cum-Chancellor of the Universities of Bihar.

Programme to prospective applicants on payment of the prescribed price including entrance test fee of (Rupees Eight hundred) for general category and (for SC/ST candidates) only, in the form of Bank Draft issued from any nationalized bank, in favour of payable at Badh-Gaya or through money receipt, to be given at the sale counter of Department/Study centres.

a) To be admitted to the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) a candidate with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor's Degree and/or in the Master's degree or any other qualification recognized by the Academic Council of the Magadh University as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to the programme. If a candidate does not fulfill the eligibility criteria of admission and he/she manage somehow other to obtain admit card and sits in the entrance test examination, does not claim for admission as he/she does not fulfill the eligibility criteria of admission.

b) The reservation in seats and relaxation in the qualifying marks in favour of the reserved categories shall be as per the rules of the Government.

c) No applicant shall be admitted, who has not applied for the admission within notified time or who, on being selected for admission, does not get himself admitted within specified time, except where the delay has been condoned by the Vice-Chancellor.

d) Candidates appearing in the final year examination for the qualifying may also apply and appear in the entrance test. If the candidate fails to produce the original mark-sheet of the qualifying examination at the time of counselling the claim for admission shall not be entertained in any circumstances.

e) Candidates belong to other than Bihar state shall not be given benefit of reservation policy. They will be treated as a candidate of general category.

Study centres of DDE are only responsible for selling & collecting the forms for regular B. Ed. Programme. Classes of admitted students will be held in the Department of Education, M.U. Campus, Bodh-Gaya only. DDE has following study centres, from where the forms can be obtained :

The admission form duly supported with the attested photo copies of the following documents must reach to :

on or before the last date for submission of the admission form either by the candidate in person or by Speed post / Registered post. Admission form can also be submitted at the Study Centres before the due date of submission by person/post. The Admit Card for entrance test will be issued at the time of submission of form.

1. Application form downloaded from the website must accompany entrance test fee as mentioned in the prospectus column i.e. Rs. 800/- for general and Rs. 500/- for SC and ST category in the form of DD.

2. Attested copy of the Marks-sheet of the qualifying examination.

3. Attested copy of the Matriculation Certificate for the proof of age.4. Attested copy of the Caste Certificate, issued by the competent authority (DM/DC/SDO) or any

other authorised officer in respect of SC/ST/BC/OBC candidates, seeking admission on reserved quota.

5. Attach three copies of colour photograph (write your name, application form No. and course applied on the back), excluding one photograph pasted on the application form and two on the admit cards.

6. Please attach the 2nd copy of money receipt with the admission form, otherwise form will not be entertained.

For one academic session 100 students will be admitted in B.Ed. Regular course based on the performance in the entrance test and following the norms of reservation of State Government/M.U. Bodh-Gaya.

I) Seats shall be reserved for SC [16%], ST [01%], BC-I [18%], BC-II [12] & BC Women [03%]. Admission against these seats will be made provided the candidates has passed the Qualifying Examination and appeared in the test and secured the qualifying marks in Entrance Examination i.e. 45%.

ii) Appearance in the test is mandatory. The reserved category candidates shall have to submit a copy of the certificate mentioning that the candidate belongs to a particular reserved category from an officer not below the rank of S.D.O.

iii) 3% seats shall be reserved for physically disabled candidates : visually impaired (1%), Hearing Impaired (1%) & Orthopedically Handicapped (1%). These 3% seats are within the intake limit : Percentage of disability will be taken into consideration at the time of selection.

There may be provision of 10% reservation within the intake limit for the wards of Magadh University employees (working at M. U. headquarter only) as per provision of general admission ordinance of Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya. (A proof issued from competent authority must accompany the application form to

No extra time will be granted for these formalities to be completed.

DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS

There will be objective type of test for admission in B. Ed. Programme. The test will comprise of 100 questions carrying one mark each. The objective type questions are of multiple choice with four alternatives answers (numbered 1, 2, 3, 4) to each question. Candidates are required to choose the correct one. For the test, each candidate will be supplied a sealed question booklet (which contains the question) and OMR. answer sheet. The candidate will have to choose the correct answer and shade against the appropriate choice in the OMR response sheet provided, strictly adhering to the instructions.

ðNo negative marks for wrong answers.

ðThe question paper will be in English & Hindi only.

ðCandidates should carefully go through and strictly adhere to all the instructions given in the OMR Response sheet before they begin.

ðThe candidates should bring their own black ball point pen of good quality. This will not be supplied by the University.

ðCandidates should shade the correct response against each question in the OMR response sheet only with a black ball point pen.

ðThe candidates should sign in the attendance sheet at appropriate places.

ðThe Admit card should be preserved and produced for verification at the time of counselling/admission.

ðViolation of any instruction and adoption of any unfair means in the examination hall will make the candidate ineligible for admission.

ðUse of Calculators, Log Tables, Watches with facilities of calculators, pages, and cellular phones is strictly prohibited in the examination hall. Candidates are also strictly forbidden from carrying any textual printed or written, bits of paper, envelope or any other materials into the examination hall except the Admit card.

The question paper consists of two parts Part - A and Part - B.

Part - A : Consists of 80 questions carrying one mark each. Questions will be asked from General English comprehension, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, Educational & General awareness and Teaching-Learning and the school.

Part - B : Consists of 20 questions carrying one mark each. This part is based on subject competence and contains faculty based questions i.e.

(i) Science faculty (ii) Humanities faculty

(iii) Social Science faculty (iv) Commerce faculty

But students are advised to answer only one set of faculty based questions which they have opted. If they answer more than one set of faculty based questions from part B, their answer sheet willbe rejected by the computer.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS WHILE APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

For the declaration of results of entrance test, the Department will arrange to send call letters through registered post to candidates being called for counselling. Admission is based strictly on merit index prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test following the reservation policy of the admission. The merit list will also be available on the website Only selected candidates for admission will be informed through call letter by the University. No scrutiny/re-evaluation of answer-sheet/Booklet of the test shall be allowed on any ground as OMR Sheets are evaluated through computer only.

A list of finally selected candidates will be prepared in order of merit, based on their performance in the Entrance Test and reservation policy.

The application form is required to be filled up by the candidates in Capital letters (except signature and address) using either ink or ball pen in HIS/HER OWN HAND WRITING. Where information is required to be filled in boxes, write names in capital letters, leave one box blank between first and middle name and also between middle name and last name or initials of names. Your name, Father's name, Mother's name and Date of Birth in the application form should exactly be the same as mentioned in the High School/Class X certificate. Any discrepancy, whenever found, may lead to cancellation of your candidature.

vMake sure that you are using the correct application form to be purchased from DDE Headquarter or from recognized study Centres.

vYou have read and understood all the instructions/informations given in the Prospectus/application form carefully.

vYou have completed and submitted the form and have filled up the form as per given instructions. Incomplete application forms shall not be entertained.

All the students of B.Ed. Regular programme will have to attend their classes in the uniform prescribed by the University. For boys white shirt and grey trouser. For girls white Salwar, Grey Jamper and White Dupatta. In winter Navy Blue blazer is common for both. DDE office may supply the dress offer realising the market costs fixed for each student.At the time of admission the candidates are required to pay the estimated cost of uniform (Material and Tailoring both) to the Departmental council so that the uniform should be ready on the day of commencement of classes

COURSE CURRICULUMCOURSE CURRICULUMThe programme is essentially a combination of theory and practical courses to develop knowledge, skills and attitude in practicing teachers and freshers. Illustrations and cases of relevant situations and activities comprise the core of each paper. The core subject is suitably supported by theoretical aspects as well as practical concerns of teaching. Thus, the programme consists of ten papers of 100 marks each. Out of ten, there shall be seven theoretical papers and three papers are concerned with the practical aspects of teaching learning process. Co-Curricular activities are regular feature of B.Ed. Programme. Many different Co-Curricular activities are organized at regular intervals of time i.e. Preparation of T.L.M., organization of cultural programme, organization of science exhibition and improvisation of apparatus etc. For the above items each candidate has to deposit Rs. One Thousand at the time of admission

All candidates enrolled for B.Ed. course must get themselves registered with Magadh University after depositing the requisite registration fee. Candidate shall not be allowed to appear in the examination without registration with the Magadh University. Those who are already registered with the Magadh University need not be registered.

For the benefits of students, teachers & supporting staff each admitted student has to pay Rs. 1000/- at the time of admission.

1. To be admitted to the examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Education, a candidate must have:a) completed the courses of study prescribed for the B.Ed. Programme.b) registered with the University as a students.c) completed atleast 75% attendance, otherwise he/she will not be permitted to appear at the

B.Ed. examination.2. A candidate for Bachelor of Education shall be examined in ten papers carrying 100 marks each.3. There shall be seven theoretical and three practical papers. Each theoretical paper shall consist of

two parts :a) a written examination carrying 80 marksb) Internal assessment carrying 20 marks.

4. The examination in each of the theoretical papers (written examination) shall be of three hours duration.

5. The medium of examination for the course shall be English or Hindi.6. The mode of instruction shall comprise printed materials (in English or Hindi), holding regular classes,

evaluating response-sheets. Tutorial classes, regular internal assessment and using other Audio-visual aids available for the purpose.

7. Courses of study for Bachelor of Education Examination (B.Ed. Prog.) shall be the same as prescribed by the Academic Council of the Magadh University and as per the guidelines of NCTE.

8. A candidate, having completed the course, fails to appear at the examination or fails in the examination shall be allowed to take subsequent examinations on payment of prescribed examination fee without being required to complete the course again. However, this opportunity shall be given only in two more examinations, within a period not exceeding three years, excluding the main examination held at the end of the session.

(i) The examination shall be conducted by Magadh University which shall also finalize the programme for the examination and necessary fee for its conduction.

i) The selection of candidates for admission to the B.Ed. Course in Regular mode shall be made on the basis of Entrance Test conducted by the University.

ii) To qualify for admission to B.Ed. course, a candidate must obtain minimum of 45% marks at the Entrance Test held for the purpose.

A candidate is required to pay the entire course fees in one installment at the time of admission. The course will run on self-finance basis, hence, fees may be revised by the university, if necessary.

Besides the above mentioned fees and charges each students has to procure Carrybag, Kits, Assignment Books, Lesson Plan, Syllabus, I-Card from the department (approx. cost Rs. 2,000/-) and deposit Rs. 1,000/- towards Students Welfare Fund.
