    Capital HotelJeffrey Ferrell

    Timing has a lot to do with the success of a rain dance

    The decision to return to the Middle South was not an easy one for Jeffrey Ferrell and his wife, Tracy. While Ferrell, a Corinth Mississippi native would nostalgically be coming home; Tracy was originally from Vermont. More significantly, both had become professionally attached to the region through the New England Culinary Institute where Jeffrey was an instructor. Three years earlier Jeffrey had actually declined an offer to be part of the Capitals opening team, but after making a personal visit to Little Rock, they realized that the Capital was a unique opportunity.

    The fantasy kitchen he had originally discussed with Executive Chef Lee Richardson inspired Ferrells culinary passion; but the real surprise was the opportunity to lead the hotels local-sourcing initiatives. Dealing with the regions small producers would allow him to add to the communitys economy with [the Capitals] purchasing power Likewise he was intrigued to discover that the hotel employs so many people at the first rung of the ladder to the American Dream. We serve a well-heeled clientele, but the real beneficiaries are the 180 members of the Capital family and their families Ultimately he was thrilled to do what I love and affect positive change.

    Little could Ferrell have imagined that shortly after his arrival, Chef Richardson would announce his resignation. After much soul-searching, Tracy and Jeffrey concluded they really liked living here and had enjoyed the time at the Capital. The next morning, Ferrell marched into the hotel and met with each of the senior managers to assure them of his support in whatever course was chosen.

    Although the demands of a hotel with two restaurants and a substantial private dining business would require an Executive Chef with far broader hotel experience, Ferrell was invited to lead the outstanding culinary team that remained following Richardsons departure. For the seven busiest months since the Capital reopened, Ferrell proved to be an able captain, not only maintaining the quality standards that are the Capitals benchmark but directing the kitchen through improving business levels in each outlet.

    As Ferrell hands over control to world-renown Executive Chef, Joel Antunes, time can be spent designing and orchestrating the strategic changes planned for the hotel thanks to Jeffery Ferrell and a dedicated culinary team.

    Clinton Presidential Center and restaurant Forty Two

    Stephen Burrow

    Stephen Burrow is an Arkansas native and chef for the Clinton Foundation at the Clinton Presidential Center and Park and on-site restaurant Forty Two. Winning the Arkansas Hospitality Associations 2011 Arkansas Iron Chef and being an avid practitioner of the farm to table movement Burrow turns to local farms to provide an array of fresh produce and natural proteins. He also helped establish and heads the Clinton Centers Terrace Gardens, where he and his staff grow vegetables and herbs used in Forty Twos daily lunch menus.

    A graduate of Le Cordon Bleus academic culinary program, Burrow began his career in Austin, Texas, then returned home to begin his tenure at the center in 2009. Burrows specialty is contemporary southern-colonial and international cuisine, which is served monthly at Forty Twos Around the World Thursdays. Burrow is also involved with the Student Chef Series, an in-school program that educates students about the hospitality industry, nutrition and urban gardening.

    Rob Nelson is the Chef and Owner of Tusk & Trotter American Brasserie, located in Downtown Bentonville, Arkansas.     Is Your Childs Report Card Refrigerator Worthy?Huntington Can Help

    Children and teenagers facing trouble with grades might not seek help until a crisis point is reached. This is why reviewing your childs report card is so important. Here are some things to look for.

    1. Surprises. If you see a poor grade in a subject your child previously did well in, investigate it. Sometimes a child does well when a subject is first introduced, but struggles after the course intensifies. If thats happening with your student, there may be a gap in the students basic skill now showing up as bad grades.

    2. Disorganization. A cluttered desktop or lack of dedicated study space thats clear of distractions is the enemy of quality study time. Likewise, time management issues can kill study momentum. If your student has an undefined time period and insufficient goals for his or her homework, chaos and ill-preparedness will result.

    3. Getting enough sleep. This becomes a pronounced issue during middle school, when your child seeks more autonomy. A recent UCLA study found that adolescents devote less time to sleep as they age, and when they sacrifice the sleep they have for extra studying, their academic performance suffers.
