TWENTIETH ANNUAL AWRA CONFERENCE AND SYMPOSIUM AWRA ANNUAL AWARDS LUNCHEON The Annual Awards Luncheon of the American Water Re- sources Association was held on August 15, 1984, at the Loews L‘Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washing- ton, D.C. The luncheon address was given by Alvin L. Alm, Deputy Administrator, Environ- mental Protection Agency. His topic was “Meeting Water Qual- ity Goals.” A copy of his re- marks will be in a future issue of Mydata - News and Views. President David A. Rickert presided over the Awards pre- sentation which followed Alm’s remarks. The ICKO IBEN AWARD, which was established in 197 1 to recognize persons who hare made outstanding con- tributions to the promotion of communication among the vari- ous disciplines concerned with water resources problems, was was presented to DR. JOHN CAIRNS, JR., Virginia Polytech- nic Institute and State Univer- sity. This Award honors the late Dr. Icko Iben, a co-founder of AWRA, who contributed exten- sively during his lifetime to the understanding and communication among those involved in the diverse disciplines related to water resources. GORDON BYERS of the University of New Hampshire and PHILLIP E. GREESON of the U.S. Geological Survey were elected as FELLOW MEMBERS of the American Water Resources Association in recognition of their membership in the Association for at least 10 consecutive years, service as an Officer or Director or on a committee for one year, and an eminent record in a branch of water resources science or tech- nology. BOGGESS AWARD which is given to the author or authors of the paper, published in the Water Re- sources Bulletin, during the preceeding year, that best des- cribes, delineates, or analyzes a major problem or aspect of wa- ter resources from either a theo- retical, applied, or philosoph- ical standpoint was presented to DR. IAN McLEOD, the Uni- versity of Western Ontario; FER- NANDO CAMACHO, the Uni- versity of Western Ontario; and DR. KEITH HIPEL, the Univer- sity of Waterloo, Canada, for their paper “Trend Assessment of Water Quality Time Series” which was published in the Au- gust 1983 Water Resources Bul- letin. This Award, established in 1973, honors William R. “Randy” Boggess, a Charter Mem- ber of AWR,4, one of the first Directors, and a former President of the Association, who has also made significant contributions to AWRA as an Editor of the Bulletin. The OUTSTANDING STATE SECTION AWARD was pre- sented to the FLORIDA SECTION of the American Water Re- sources Association. This Award is given in recognition of a Sec- tion’s activities in advancing water resources knowledge in the Section; number, type, and scope of Section activity; special activi- ties of unusual note; and num- ber of National Members in the Section. The Award was ac- cepted by Daniel P. Spangler, President of the Florida Section. The OUTSTANDING STUDENT CHAPTER AWARD was established to recognize the AWRA Student Chapter which has been most active in ad- vancing water resources know- ledge in their respective Chapter, State, and Section.
