Hon. (Dr.) Kuti was born on 12th March 1964. He is currently serving as Minister of State for Youth Affairs. Prior to his current position, Hon. Kuti served as a Medical Doctor in Meru and Isiolo Districts where he rose to become a District Medical Officer of Health. He was also appointed as an Assistant Minister for Public Health in February 2005, a position he ably held until he was appointed to his current position. Hon. Mutahi Kagwe

Hon. Kagwe was born in January 1958. He is currently the Minister for Information and Communications and Member of Parliament representing Mukurwe-ini Constituency. Prior to this, he was an Advertising Manager of the Standard Ltd. between 1987 and 1989 and later became Managing Director of Tell-Em Public Relations (EA) Ltd. He is also Chairman, Research International (EA) ltd. Hon. Kagwe has distinguished himself as a loyal and committed Minister who has transformed information and communication sector to an internationally accepted level especially in the digital era. Hon. (Dr) Noah Mahalang’ang’a Wekesa

Hon. Dr. Wekesa was born on 21st August 1936. He is the Minister for Science and Technology, a position he has ably held since his appointment in December 2005. Hon. Wekesa is a trained and experienced Veterinary Doctor, who served in various parts of the country, rising to the position of Provincial Veterinary Officer. He also played a leading role in political guidance and transition through coalition building and coordination in the country which has promoted national cohesion. He also served as an Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development in 2004. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) for his valuable contribution towards national development.

Hon. Soita Shitanda

Hon. Shitanda was born on 9th November 1958. He is currently the Minister for Housing. He joined the Civil Service in 1979 as an Accounts Trainee and served in the Ministry of Finance, rising to the position of Accountant I. Hon. Shitanda joined politics in 1997 and successfully won the Malava Parliamentary seat and was appointed an Assistant Minister for Public Service in 2004. He has foreseen the implementation of the National Housing Policy and also the Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme. Hon. Shitanda has brought reforms in the housing of Civil Servants by introducing a housing scheme which is currently being implemented in phases. He has also streamlined and re-organized the National Housing Corporation and is currently undergoing further restructuring to enable it undertake more housing projects and hence bridge the housing deficit. Hon. Kamanda was born in 1951. He currently serves as Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services and Member of Parliament for Starehe Constituency having been elected in 1997 and successfully won again in 2002. Hon. Kamanda was previously an elected Councillor in Nairobi and a party branch leader. He has contributed to the promotion of culture and also brought sanity in the sports arena. Hon. John Mutua Katuku

Hon. Katuku was born in 1965. He taught at Kalawa Secondary School from 1987 to 1989 and later joined the Child Welfare Society of Kenya as Programme Officer in 1996. Hon. Henry Onyancha Obwocha

Hon. Obwocha was born on 28th June 1949. He is currently the Minister for Planning and National Development and Member of Parliament for West Mugirango Constituency. Obwocha has also successfully led Kenyan delegations to international meetings which have been fruitful and beneficial to the country. Hon. Morris Mwachondo Dzoro

Hon. Dzoro was born in 1950. He is the Minister for Tourism and Wildlife. He served as a Pastor from 1978 to 1982 and joined the World Vision, Kenya in 1990 as Urban Ministry Coordinator and subsequently served in various regions rising to the position of Programme Manager. Hon. Dzoro was appointed Assistant Minister in the Office of the President in 2003 and also served in the same capacity in the Ministry of Fisheries Development. He was appointed Minister for Tourism and Wildlife in 2005 and has ably steered the tourism sector to great success, beneficial to the country’s economy. Hon. (Prof.) Kivutha Kibwana

Hon. (Prof) Kibwana is currently the Minister for Environment and Natural Resources. He is also acting Minister for Lands where he has spearheaded the Land Reform Agenda, the National Land Policy formulation process, settlement of the squatters and resettlement of displaced persons. He also put in place measures to recover irregularly allocated land and advanced the strategy for a metropolitan plan for the city of Nairobi and the abutting Municipal Councils. Hon. John Munyes Kiyong’a

Hon. Munyes was born on 29th January 1966. He is currently a Minister of State for Special Programmes, a position he has held since December 2005. He is tasked with managing disasters including relief, floods and HIV/AIDS campaigns. Hon. Munyes was first elected to Parliament in 1997 and also won during the 2002 elections as Member of Parliemant representing Turkana North. He was appointed Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in 2003. Prior to joining politics, Hon. Munyes worked as UNESCO Project Assistant and later became a Programme Coordinator of the Intermediate technology Development Group (ITDG) where he coordinated food security programmes in Turkana District including livestock projects, women empowerment and capacity building. Maj. Gen. Eustace Kajogi Njeru

Maj. Gen. Njeru was born in 1953. He was enlisted into the Kenya Air Force in 1974 as a Cadet Officer. He has held various commands both in staff and training at the Kenya Air Force rising to become a Major General. He is currently a Senior Directing Staff at the National Defence College. Throughout his career, he has rendered loyal and dedicated service and has set high standards in the supplies branch. Maj. Gen. Michael Gichangi

Maj. Gen Gichangi was born in 1958. He was commissioned into the Armed Forces in 1975. During his service in the military, he served with distinction in various units, both in operations and training rising to the rank of Brigadier. He was appointed Director National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) in 2003 where his input and contributions made a difference in the fight against terrorism both locally and regionally. Due to his dedication to duty, he was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2006. He is currently the Director-General, National Security Intelligence Service, a duty he performs with loyalty and zeal. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for distinguished and dedicated service.

Dr. Edward Sambili

Dr. Sambili was born in 1957. He is currently the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Planning and National Development where he has overall responsibility for implementation and coordination of economic policy, planning, management, monitoring and evaluation. He is also involved in NEPAD programmes, Millennium Development Goals, Poverty Eradication Program and coordination of the new National Vision 2030 initiative. Dr. Sambili has previously served the country with commitment, holding leadership positions such as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya during which time, he supervised the entire financial sector, monitory policy and foreign exchange reserves of the country. Emmanuel Mwatibo Kisombe

Mr. Kisombe was born on 11th April 1955. He has rendered distinguished public service spanning twenty eight (28) years having joined the Civil Service in September 1979 as an Assistant Secretary. He rose through the ranks to become Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President in 2004 and was subsequently appointed Permanent Secretary for Immigration and Registration of Persons on 7th December 2005. Throughout his career, Mr. Kisombe has been consistent in his commitment, dedication and devotion to duty and has been instrumental in inducing best management practices and style in the Civil Service. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) in recognition of his devotion and commitment to service.

Kinuthia Ng’ang’a Murugu

Mr. Murugu was born in 1961. He is currently serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs. Prior to this, he served as Regional Director, World Scout Bureau, and the Africa Region from 2001 to December 2005. He ensured strategic planning and streamlined operations of the Scout’s movement including mobilization of resources and also supervised its regional offices. Mr. Murugu also served in the Armed Forces where he rose from the rank of Lieutenant to become a Major and Staff Officer in Logistics Branch of the Kenya Navy. He has had experience in command of missile-carrying boats, and also development of comprehensive materials management system for large defence installations. Mr. Murugu has been charged with the responsibility of setting up the new Ministry for Youth Affairs by developing a strategic plan based on the draft National Youth Policy and also leading the budgetary process to secure adequate resources to realize the plan and policy including setting up of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his exemplary and dedicated service.

Dr. Elijah Bitange Ndemo

Dr. Ndemo is currently serving as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications. He previously worked as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Head of Research and Consultancy, Faculty of Commerce, University of Nairobi. Dr. Ndemo has more than fifteen (15) years experience in management as a lead consultant on various projects in both private and public sectors and also in policy design, review and implementation within the Kenyan environment. He has played a key role in mainstreaming the Information and Communication Technology sector thereby enabling the country to attain advanced system of communication in line with rapidly emerging technological trends. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his efforts towards national development.

Amb. (Dr.) Hukka Wario

Amb. (Dr.) Wario was born on 20th September 1952 in Marsabit District. He taught at Marsabit Secondary School, Kilimambogo and Thogoto Teachers’ Colleges and later joined Moi University as Lecturer. Amb. (Dr.) Wario joined the Diplomatic Service in 1998 and was posted as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Zimbabwe with accreditation to

Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland. He also served as Ambassador to China. He also served as co-ordinator of Somali National Reconciliation Conference, deputizing the Special Envoy. He has also served as Head of Middle East Desk, Director of Administration and as Head of Research and Policy Analysis and was attached to the National Defence College, Karen as Deputy Commandant in charge of Civilian Affairs. He was appointed Permanent Secretary, Office of the Vice-President and Ministry of Home Affairs on 7th December 2005, a position he still holds and has been tasked in reforming the Kenya Prisons, the Children’s Department, Probation and Aftercare as well as modernizing the department in charge of betting, lotteries and gaming. Rachel Bessie Dzombo

Mrs Dzombo was born on 20th September 1957 in Kilifi District. She joined the Civil Service in November 1982 as Assistant Secretary and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief Finance Officer in December 2000. She was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services in December 2005, a position she still ably holds. Mrs. Dzombo has been responsible for efficient delivery of services in the ministry and also prudent management of public funds. She has instilled discipline and upholding of high level of integrity and ethical conduct by Public Officers in the ministry. Dr. Hezron Omare Nyangito

Dr. Nyangito was born in 1957. He is currently serving as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health since December 2005. He previously served as Executive Director of KIPPRA and as Policy Advisor to various ministries and also as negotiator on trade protocols for Kenya. Dr. Nyangito has been a member of various Task Forces on economic development. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his dedicated service.

Dr. Romano Mungiiria Kiome

Dr. Kiome was born in 1954. He is currently serving as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture. Prior to this, he served as Director of the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) where he was involved in effective research activities some of which have been successfully applied by farmers in the country. Dr. Kiome has managed to effectively steer the Ministry into better service delivery. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his contribution towards agricultural development.

Dr. Jacob Olongida ole Miaron

Dr. Miaron was born in 1957. He worked as a Lecturer and rose to become Chairman of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Animal Physiology. He is currently serving as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development. He is recognized for his exemplary service to the public and contribution to research on livestock and environmental interaction as a member of the Kenyan National Academy

Kombo Mwero

Mr. Mwero was born on 5th December 1956. He is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands where he has served from December 2005. Ms Nyamweya worked with the Kenya Cargo Handling Services Ltd, Block Hotels (Management) Ltd. and also American Life Insurance Company. In 1995, she joined the United Nations and was posted to New York and later to Vienna, Austria. She currently serves as Secretary, Public Service Reform and Development Secretariat in the Office of the President. Ms Nyamweya is responsible for steering the Public Service from being process-oriented to a results-based, efficient and effective service. She is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) in recognition of her role in spearheading the reform agenda in the Public Service.

Titus J.K. Gateere

Mr. Gateere was born in 1948. He has rendered illustrious service in the field of Human Resource Development that spans three decades. He is instrumental in the growth of leadership competence across the public sector spectrum. As chairman of the Public Service Commission of Kenya, Mr. Gateere has steered the Commission to great heights and has ensured that the Commission maintained integrity, and respect from its stakeholders. He is awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his long and distinguished service rendered to the nation.

Evan N. Mwai

Mr. Mwai was born on 16th July 1941 in Nyeri District. He served as Controller and Auditor General and retired in 2006. He rendered long and dedicated public service spanning 40 years. He is a seasoned Auditor who managed public funds with zeal and commitment. Mr. Mwai is recognized for his successful efforts in clearing the backlog of audits in government. Mr. Muriuki was born in 1933. He served as Chairman of First Chartered Securities and Shell BP Kenya. He also held chairmanship positions in health and financial institutions including Kenyatta National Hospital and NIC Bank where he played a key role in economic empowerment and support of the less fortunate of the society. Mr. Muriuki is also a passionate conservator of the environment through planting of trees and protection and preservation of forests. Brig. Jackson Ndungu Waweru

Brig. Waweru was born in 1949. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces in May 1977 as a Cadet Officer and has held various positions in command including being a Chief Flying Instructor at the Kenya Air Force. He is currently the Deputy Commander, Kenya Air Force. He has rendered dedicated and loyal service and has trained many pilots and instructors. He trained Grade II Staff Officers for four years at Defence Staff College, Karen with dedication. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his dedication and commitment to service.

Brig. Henry Onyango

Brig. Onyango was born in 1954. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces in 1974 as a Cadet Officer. He has served with loyalty and dedication holding various positions both in command, staff and training. He has served in flying and ground duties including training many pilots and instructors at the Kenya Air Force. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his loyalty and dedication to duty.

Brig. Arthur Ndonj Owuor

Brig. Owuor was born in 1960. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces on 28th Mach 1980 and rose through the ranks to his current position of Brigadier and Director of Navy Logistics. He is enlightened, hardworking and provides exemplary leadership. He has always endeavoured to uplift the status of the Armed Forces. S/DCP Mathew Kirai Iteere

S/DCP Iteere was born in 1964. He currently serves as Commandant, General Service Unit (GSU). He has served the country with a lot of devotion and dedication. Through his initiative and exemplary leadership, he managed to steer the General Service Unit to greater heights especially through prompt response to serious incidences in the country including national disasters and banditry. Samuel Waweru Ndindiri

Mr. Ndindiri was born in 1951. He currently serves as Clerk of the National Assembly. He has rendered distinguished service to the country during his career in Parliament spanning thirty-one (31) years. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his distinguished service.

Hon. Njoki S. Ndung’u

Hon. Ndung’u was born on 20th September 1965. She has been serving as a Nominated Member of the Ninth Parliament since January 2003. Prior to this she served at the Attorney General’s office as a State Counsel and later joined Public Law Institute where she headed the Public Interest Litigation section before moving to UNHCR Kenya office and subsequently to the then Organization of African Unity as Political Analyst. Hon. Njoki is the chief architect of the “Sexual Offences Act 2006” which she moved and had it passed by Parliament as a private member’s bill. She is recognized for her tireless efforts in advocating for women rights and freedom. She is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her committed and distinguished service rendered to the nation.

Jimna Mbaru

Mr. Mbaru is the current Chairman of Nairobi Stock Exchange and also Dyer and Blair Investment Bank Ltd. He holds directorship, membership and chairmanship in other various financial and educational institutions. He has also rendered valuable service to stock exchanges in Africa including the African Stock Exchanges Association (ASEA) where he served as Chairman from 1998 to 2000. He has been an Advisor to Stock Exchanges and Capital Markets in Uganda, Dar-esSalaam, Rwanda and Botswana. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in recognition of his role in the development of capital markets in the country.

Prof. George Imbanga Godia

Prof. Godia was born on 23rd July 1952 in Vihiga District. He joined the teaching profession as a Lecturer at Kenyatta University in 1981 and later worked at Moi University where he rose to the position of Professor of Education in 1996. He is currently the Education Secretary in the Ministry of Education where he has been instrumental in the implementation of public sector reforms in personnel management, energy and agriculture sectors. He was also involved in the development of strategic plans for State House, Defence, DPM and Ministry of Cooperative Development. Prof. Godia has assisted in reforms in the Ministry of Education including decentralization and relocation of teachers and development of the Sessional paper No.1 of 2005. He is

Prof. Michael Chege

Prof. Chege was born in 1946. He coordinates the African Peer Review Mechanism or Technical Agenda and EU-ACP relations. He also gives technical support and writes briefs for the National Economic and Social Council. He is an author of several publications and an eminent professor of Economics who has taught in many universities abroad and locally. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his immense contribution to national development.

Dr. Cleopa Kilonzo Mailu

Dr. Mailu was born on 29th April 1956 in Makueni District. He is currently the Chief Executive of the Nairobi Hospital. Prior to his current position, he served as Medical Officer at Kenyatta National Hospital and also held senior positions in the Ministry of Health. Dr. Mailu has rendered distinguished service as Chief Executive of the Nairobi Hospital where there is a renewed sense of hospitality and provision of best clinical services. The Hospital has now doubled its income and the bed capacity has been increased to 300 beds. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in recognition of his efforts in health development and implementation of initiatives for reforms in the health sector.

Stanley Kamau Kiragu

Mr. Kiragu was born in 1946 in Muranga District. He is a physiotherapist who has served in various hospitals in the country including Kenyatta National Hospital where he was in charge of various departments. Mr. Kiragu has rendered valuable and dedicated service as a reknown physiotherapist. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his contribution towards provision of health services.

Edward Njoroge

Mr. Njoroge was born in 1952. He currently serves as Managing Director of KenGen where he has managed the company both professionally and profitably. He has made a special effort to stamp out all forms of corruption from the company. His style of management has earned him respect and confidence, not only from the staff but also from the Board of Directors. He has steered the company through the recent Initial Public Offer (IPO) at the Nairobi Stock Exchange, which was heavily over-subscribed. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in recognition of his efficient management and contribution to national development.

Amb. Leonard Oliver Kibinge

Amb. Kibinge was born on 10th March 1934. He was one of the three Kenyans who were responsible for the establishment of the Ministry of External Affairs. He rendered long and distinguished career in the Civil Service from 1961 to 1982 rising from the rank of

Under Secretary in 1964 to become a Permanent Secretary in 1974. Amb. Kibinge researched, produced and formulated the country’s Foreign Service regulations and structured the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including establishment of diplomatic missions. He was the first Kenyan Ambassador to the United States of America and the first career Ambassador to be appointed Permanent Secretary. He also formulated the National Livestock Development Policy while serving in the Ministry of Livestock Development. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for immense and distinguished service rendered to the nation.

Prof. Calestous Juma

Prof. Juma is a Professor in the Practice of International Development and Director of the Science and Technology and Globalization Project at the J.F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He is an internationally recognized authority in application of science and technology for sustainable development worldwide and has won many international awards. Prof. Juma has undertaken numerous special assignments not only for the government but also for international organizations. He founded the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) in Nairobi being the first independent policy research institution in Africa which is designed to advance research on technology in development. He is also a respected shuttling international diplomat who has assisted governments to solve diplomatic issues. He is a member of the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) and the National Academy of Science. Prof. Juma is a co-chair of the expert panel on modern bio-technology of the African Union and NEPAD. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his achievements and distinguished service rendered to the nation.

Prof. Olive Mwihaki Mugenda

Prof. Mugenda was born on 25th December 1954 in Kiambu District. She rose from the position of Tutorial Fellow to full Professor and is currently the Vice-Chancellor, Kenyatta University. She has rendered administrative duties at Kenyatta University with dedication and commitment for ten years. During her career, she has undertaken research projects and published many articles presented in local and international conferences. Prof. Mugenda has also made contributions to the university’s funding by raising over Kshs.180 million from donors. She is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her promotion of education.

Julius Karioki Gecau

Mr. Gecau was born on 7th January 1926 in Nakuru District. He served as Chairman of various instutions including the Kenya Institute of Management and the Federation of Kenya Employers. He also served as Director of the Central Bank of Kenya between 1965 and 1974 and many other boards as a Director. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his contribution towards national development.

Joseph Stalin O’bonyo

Mr. Obonyo was born on 27th July 1946 in Bondo District. He is currently serving as Commissioner, Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC). Prior to this, he served as Principal

Benjamin C. Cheboi

Mr. Cheboi was born on 21st July 1958 in Baringo District. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Board Secretary of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). He has rendered twenty five years in the Public Service as Lecturer, Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar and later as Deputy Secretary. Mr. Cheboi has played a key role in harmonization of laws governing education in the country and has steered HELB successfully by increasing revenue substantially and significantly improving loan awards and its recovery. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his exemplary performance.

Peter Kahara Munga

Mr. Munga was born on 28th August 1944 in Muranga District. He is the founder and Chairman of Equity Building Society Ltd. He is currently the Chairman of Micro-Enterprise Support Programme which is a joint programme between European Union and Kenya Government to financially support small and medium size enterprises. He previously served in the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Development. Through his chairmanship, Equity Bank Ltd. has evolved to become a vibrant bank which provides financial services and credit for micro-enterprise development. The bank has expanded and now has twenty branches countrywide. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his role in national development.

Gabriel Kimoroko Lengoiboni

Mr. Lengoiboni was born on 18th April 1955. He is currently serving as Commission Secretary, Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Prior to this, he rendered outstanding service through teaching and served as Head teacher, Chairman of School Heads Association, Education Attache in India and as Senior Deputy Director of Education. Through his leadership, the TSC has started construction of its headquarters, initiated the review of scheme of service for non-graduate teachers, institutionalized the Performance Contracts, and has ensured industrial peace with teachers’ unions. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his contribution towards development of education.

Amb. Joseph G. Odero-Jowi

Amb. Odero-Jowi served in the United Nations, New York from 1972 to 1974 and also as the first Ambassador to the UN Security Council between 1973 and 1974. He also served as Minister for Planning and Economic Development. Amb. Odero-Jowi executed the plan for the location of UNEP in Nairobi through mobilization and effective lobbying of member states to support the resolution in the General Assembly resulting in Nairobi being the 4th UN city in the world and the only one in the developing world. The UN offices in Nairobi have resulted in prestige and positive economic implications including

Prof. Godfrey Muriuki

Prof. Muriuki was born in July 1937 in Nyeri District. He joined the teaching profession in January 1959 as a Primary School Teacher and subsequently taught in a Teachers’ College and Universities both locally and abroad where he rose to become a Professor of History at the University of Nairobi. Prof. Muriuki pioneered the recognition of African history as an academic discipline particularly the use of oral traditions. He is an expert on African history especially the Kenyan history and was instrumental in the implementation of the work-study programme for needy students. He has also played a leading role in university education and student counselling. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for achievement in promotion of education.

Prof. Walter Otieno Mwanda

Prof. Mwanda was born in March 1955. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Pathology, University of Nairobi and also a consultant Haematologist and in charge of Paediatric Oncology at Kenyatta National Hospital. Prof. Mwanda has contributed immensely towards continuation of medical education in the country and also presented papers in international forums. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in recognition of his immense contribution towards teaching and health services.

Prof. David Macharia

Prof. Macharia was born in 1949. He spearheaded a highly successful national literacy campaign resulting to an enrolment of two million people within five (5) years. Prof. Macharia’s effort earned Kenya international recognition from UNSESCO. He further applied Kenya’s successful programmes in Somalia in 1987-1990 and also in Namibia between 1992 and 1996. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his contribution towards education.

Esther Jepkemboi Koimett

Ms Koimett was born in 1956. She is currently serving as Investment Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. She previously served as Managing Director, Kenya Post Office Savings Bank. She is in charge of Public Enterprises and has ably represented the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, as a Team Leader for various privatization transactions including the Mumias Sugar Co. KenGen, and concessioning of the Kenya and Uganda Railways. She is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her distinguished and dedicated service.

Michael Gitau Waweru

Mr. Waweru was born on 9th May 1950. He currently serves as Commissioner-General, Kenya Revenue Authority. He has ably steered the operations of the Authority to

Mathenge Wachira

Mr. Wachira was born on 6th January 1929. he joined the then African Meteorolical Department in 1948 and later served as an editor of local language newspapers and participated in the fight for independence culminating in his detention in 1953. Mr. Wachira was elected Councillor of Thuti Ward in 1993 and became Chairman of Othaya town council. In his old age, Mr. Wachira continues to serve the public as an opinion leader and a champion of development in Nyeri District. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his role in the fight for independence and support for community development.

Shrinkant M. Bhatt (Prof)

Prof. Bhatt was born on 5th July 1949. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicine, College of Health Sciences at University of Nairobi. He has served in various medical fields including teaching and research both locally and internationally. He was a member of the Committee of University teaching hospital for College of Health Sciences and also a Member of various medical boards. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in recognition of his achievements in the field of medicine.

Kirana M. Bhatt (Prof)

Prof. Bhatt was born on 8th December 1947. She is a medical doctor and Professor of Medicine at the University of Nairobi. She has held appointements both in teaching and administration including being Chairman of the Department of Medicine, University of Nairobi and also departmental representative to the Institute of Tropical and Infectious diseases of in the same University. Prof. Bhatt played a crucial role in the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria and other tropical deseases. She is recognized internationally for her immense wealth of experience in research and medicl training. She is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her valuable contribution in the field of medicine.

Prof. Timothy Maitho

Prof. Maitho was born on 17th December, 1951. He is currently a Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Nairobi. He is also a renowned researcher and publisher of scientific materials. Prof. Maitho is involved in the leadership of many community projects in Nyeri District. As an Educationist, he has been an inspiration to the youth. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his service to humanity.

Col. Samuel Ng’ang’a Thuita

Col. Thuita was born on 7th March 1959 in Nakuru district. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces in 1978 and was commissioned on 30th March 1979. He trained as an Air Defence Officer and rose to the position of Commanding Officer. At Moi Air Base, he is involved in operational matters which go beyond the normal working hours and he has responded positively whenever called upon to perform his duties. Col. (Dr.) Simon Kanyi Mbuthia

Col. (Dr) Mbuthia was born in 1954 in Muranga District. He is a Maxillofacial Surgeon who joined the Armed Forces in 1982 and was commissioned to the rank of Captain. He has been involved in life-saving operations and undertaken surgery that would have otherwise cost the department large sums of money. His previous documented reconstructive surgeries are a testimony of his gifted skill which he has rendered voluntarily and free of charge. Apart from the members of the Armed Forces, those who have benefited from his work include children and women. He is awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of his immense contribution towards a healthy nation.

Col. Ezekiel Mureithi Gichuiya

Col. Gichuiya was born on 24th December 1956 in Laikipia District. He was commissioned in 1983 and joined the technical branch of the Kenya Air Force. He initially commanded Air Support Engineering Squadron before moving to the Kenya Ordinance Factory as Chief Quality Control Officer in ammunition production. He was instrumental in the computerization of the Armed Forces and has trained many technical personnel. DCP Peter Meeli Leiyan

He was enlisted into the Police Force on 17th April 1972 as a Constable and served in various stations in the country where he held positions both in command and as Instructor. DCP Grace Syombua Kaindi

DCP Kaindi was born in 1955. She is a career investigator who has continuously served in the Criminal Investigations Department and is currently the Provincial Police Officer, Nyanza Province, becoming the first lady Police Officer to hold such position. S/DCP David Musyoki King’oo

S/ACP King’oo was bon in 1958. During his 27 years in service, he has performed well in his duties rising through the ranks to become Senior Assistant Commissioner. S/ACP King’oo has served in various capacities including as officer in charge of Principal Prisons and as Provincial Prisons commander. His administrative prowess has seen him elevated to the position of Director of Administration at the Prisons Headquarters. He has high capacity of team building given his humility and high integrity. Currently he is in the forefront working very closely with the Commissioner in steering the prisons reforms. James Hiram Ruhiu Murigu

Mr. Murigu was born in 1948. He is the Director of Suntra Investment Bank. Mr. Murigu, through his knowledge and experience, has been involved in the promotion and management of small enterprises and development banking. Together with other players, he was involved in the establishment of local financial institutions and is a specialist on money and capital markets. Mr. Murigu devoted his precious time to save Uchumi Supermarket which he helped to revive and as a result declined any compensation, declaring his contribution as national service. Musikiti Makhoha Kusimba

Mr. Kusimba was born in 1958 in Mt. Elgon District. He was enlisted into the Kenya Police Force in 1977 and rose through the ranks to the position of Assistant Commissioner. He currently serves as a Director of Intelligence at the National Security Intelligence Service. He is a distinguished and respectable officer recognized for his good leadership and result-oriented style while performing and undertaking public service duties and responsibilities. Joel Hill Tsola

Mr. Tsola was born in 1943. He served in the National Assembly at a senior level for many years and later joined the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) as Administrative Secretary and currently serves as Commission Secretary. There was no Secretariat at the time he joined the Commission and he was relied upon to set up a Secretariat, which he did successfully. He is in charge of supervising all the staff in the implementation of commission policies and as the Accounting Officer he oversees the management of public funds. Anne Lisalista Ambwere

Ms. Ambwere was born in 1953 in Vihiga District. She has worked in the Civil Service for 31 years in the Social Development Sector. She previously served as a Community Development Officer in 1975, rising through the ranks to become Commissioner for

He prepared the first interim report on Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (2000-2003). He was head of Budgeting Monitoring Department and currently Director of Central Bureau of Statistics. Jake J. Robert Grieves-Cook

Mr. Grieves-Cook was born on 7th August 1947. He is currently the Chairman of Kenya Tourist Board. Through his efforts, the Board has managed to steer the tourism sector to internationally accepted standards thereby raising the country’s tourism attraction. Mr. Grieves-Cook has played a role in the recovery of the country’s tourist industry and has ensured cooperation between the public and private sector for continued and sustainable tourism growth. Amb. Mohamed Abdi Affey

Amb. Affey was born in 1968 in Wajir District. He has been serving as Ambassador to Somalia since 2003 during which time he participated in talks that led to the formation of the Transitional Federal Institutions. He led a joint delegation of IGAD, African Union, Arab League and partners of Mission Somalia to resolve the political unrest in the country which produced a report acknowledged by the UN Security Council and formed the basis for a UN Security Council Resolution. Amb. Affey also played a key role in the release of twenty three (23) Kenyans kidnapped in Somalia’s high sea. He is currently at the forefront in an IGAD facilitation workforce involved in negotiations with different parties to Somali conflict. John Gakuo

Mr. Gakuo was born in 1950 in Kiambu district. He is currently serving as Town Clerk, Nairobi City Council. He previously served as a Senior District Commissioner and also served as a Senior Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health. He has ably managed the affairs of the Nairobi City Council with commitment and zeal. Isaiya Kaberia Kabira

Mr. Kabira was born on 20th August 1967 in Meru North District. He has played a crucial role in the growth of broadcast journalism in the country. He has served in various capacities during his journalism career, helping to shape the content and style of television news to meet international standards. He was appointed Director of Presidential Press Service in January 2003. Prior to this, Mr. Kabira introduced and oversaw production of television programmes, and also, ‘my vote makes the difference’, an educational documentary, encouraging Kenyans to vote. He is awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) for his dedicated service to the nation.

Nzamba Kitonga

Mr. Kitonga was born in 1956. He has served as Chairman, Law Society of Kenya, and President of the East Africa Law Society. He is currently a Senior Counsel and President of COMESA Court of Justice. He has routinely devoted his time to take up on probono basis, defence of the indigent defendants in court. Mahendra Dayalal Shah

Mr Shah was born on 11th February, 1950. He is the Managing Director of the Nairobi Sports House through which he has supported many institutions in the country by donating sports equipment. Mr. Shah is also a philanthropist who has assisted the needy through payment of school fees, food relief, donation of trophies and disaster response. Mary Wambui Njoroge

Miss Njoroge was bon on 20th September 1950 in Kiambu District. She served as Director of Basic Education. She has contributed to the expansion of access to education through supervision of the Free Primary Education Programme and is credited with the

Prof. Mutuma Mugambi

Prof. Mugambi was born in 1941. He is currently the Vice-Chancellor, Kenya Methodist University, Meru, having been the first to hold that position at the institution. Prior to this he was Associate Professor in Medical Physiology at University of Nairobi. He also held directorship and membership positions in leading research institutions in the country. He is also the current Chairman of the programmes committee of the National AIDS Control Council. Prof. Alloys Sigar Stevens Orago

Prof. Orago was born in 1951. He has demonstrated unique attributes in human resource development for health professionals through supervision of thirty-seven (37) Masters and eighteen (18) PhD students. He has shown research acumen through publication of over eighty four (84) conference abstracts and forty five (45) journals. He has been a leader in the fight against malaria and HIV/AIDS in the country for the last twenty eight (28) years. Prof. Alfred Mwongera Mutema

Prof. Mutema was born on 8th January 1951 in Meru District. He is currently an Associate Professor in Medical Education at the School of Medicine, Moi University. He has over thirty (30) years of teaching and management experience in institutions of higher education. Prof. Mutema has previously served as Principal, Kenya Medical Training College and as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Egerton University where he played major roles in institutional planning and capacity development and management of academic programmes and other related areas. Mrs Omolo was born on 24th October 1944 in Kisumu District. She is a renown radio and television presenter. She has rendered distinguished career in broadcast and journalism spanning fourty five (45) years. Mrs Omolo initiated children’s programmes and also did scripting, presenting and production of radio programmes. She also read both radio and television news and headed the English and metro services at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). She is currently a trainer in broadcast journalism and manages Ramogi FM station with Royal Media Services. Kalimi Mugambi Mworia (Amb.)

Amb. Mworia was born on 1st February, 1946. She is currently Ambassador of Kenya to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Jennifer Nkuene Riria (Dr)

Dr. Riria is currently the Chairperson of Post Office Savings Bank and Chief Executive Officer, Kenya Women Finance Trust (KWFT). She is also the founder and Board Member of Jitegemee Trust Ltd. and a Board Member of the National Bank of Kenya. Through her leadership, the Post Office Savings Bank has become the largest and the only savings bank serving over a million clients with a portfolio of more than Kshs. 20 billion. Dr. Riria has led women to have ample access to productive resources, for wealth and asset creation thereby alleviating poverty through supportive sustainable legal and economic structures. Tabitha Seii (Amb.)

Amb. Seii is currently the Kenyan High Commissioner to South Africa having been appointed in 2003. Prior to this, she was active in community development activities and environmental conservation in Rift Valley Province. Rukia Subow

Mrs Subow was born on 23rd September 1958. She is the current Chairperson of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization. She has organized groups to form cooperative societies and trade unions. Mrs. Sugow is also a community facilitator who has campaigned against possession of small arms and light weapons by the community.

Mrs Mukindia was born in 1959. She is currently serving as Managing Director of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK). She has successfully turned around the company after six successive years of loss making totaling 1.6 billion to a profit making institution. Through her stewardship, the Corporation has become self sustaining and has been remitting substantial profits to the Exchequer. Between 1999 and 2003 she was the General Manager, Petroleum Institute of Africa. She is awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) for her contribution to national development.

Sam Mwamburi Mwale

Mr. Mwale was born in 1963 in Mombasa District. He is currently serving as an Economic Secretary under the Department of Policy Analysis at State House, Nairobi. He previously served as an Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Planning and National Development. Mr. Mwale has been instrumental in the preparation of Vision 2030 under the guidance of the National Economic and Social Council. He was also involved in the African Peer Review Mechanism where Kenya was highly rated. He is awarded the Moran of Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of his valuable contribution towards economic policy formulation.Maj. Noah Kiprop Kangogo

Maj. Kangogo was bon on 12th July 1965 in Baringo District. He was commissioned into the Armed Forces in August 1990 and rose through the ranks to his current rank of Major. While he was deployed to the United Nations duties in Sierra Leone, he fought for over 23 hours against over 300 rebels who wanted to forcibly disarm the Kenyan company in Magburuka after taking hostage the Officer Commanding. In May 2000, he led his company to extricate from the rebel-controlled area, fighting through heavy ambush. He displayed self-sacrifice and extreme devotion to duty involving imminent danger of death, which led to saving lives of members of his company. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for his devotion, sacrifice and commitment to service.

Gunner Hassan Mohamed Rassi

Gunner Rassi was born in 1973 in Mombasa District. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces in 1994. He showed intelligent First Aid skills when he saved four lives of servicemen injured during an incident at Laggah Larisoro Archer Post where a 12mm

S/ACP Moses Ombati Nyakwama

S/ACP Nyakwama was born in 1962. He was enlisted into the Police Force on 1st January 1981 as a Constable. He served at the General Service Unit rising through the ranks to become a Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit. He is currently the Commandant, Anti-stock Theft Unit, a position he has held with dedication by ensuring that cases of cattle rustling in the country are reduced tremendously by promptly deploying officers to track down the culprits. ACP Albert Waweru Miare

ACP Miare was born in 1953. He is a long serving Police Officer who has vast experience in police duties and currently stationed at Nyanza Provincial Headquarters as Staff Officer in charge of administration. He has ably managed to coordinate operational activities within the province thereby bringing crime in the province to manageable levels. Ag. ACP Gilbert Hezekiel Gitonga

Ag. ACP Gitonga was born in 1960. He is currently serving as Commandant of the Kenya Police Air Wing where he has rendered meritorious service, displaying exceptional brilliance and courage while flying with VIPs, evacuation duties, rescue of flood victims and operational flying throughout the country. He has also participated in assignments relating to anti-terrorism at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and recovery after a plane crash on top of Mt. Kenya. Benjamin Njoga Ombuya

Mr. Njoga was born in 1960. He has demonstrated unique leadership qualities during his service in the Prisons Service. He has been in charge Naivasha Maximum Security Prison where he headed very effectively for four years. During his stay at Naivasha, he linked up the institution with Strathmore University which now offers professional and degree courses to prisoners at Naivasha. Dr. Joram Wilfred Odede

Dr. Odede was born in 1952. He has been involved in offering ophthalmology services for the last twenty years especially traversing the whole of North Rift region almost single handedly performing approximately 400 surgeries per year on many poor Kenyans who would otherwise have lost their vision. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for invaluable health services he has rendered.

Reuben Muriuki Kimotho

Mr. Kimotho was born in 1954. He has served with dedication, commitment and loyalty for 28 years in the Civil Service. He has been instrumental in the formulation of integrated population registration system strategy, which will lead to rapid computerization of national registration systems and make the documents more secure. He has also continued to transform the registration of births and deaths towards better service delivery. Mathias Ochuna Wanyela

Mr. Wanyela was born in 1958. He has been a strong pillar of Kenya Scouts Association for a long time. He served as a scout’s leader, trainer of trainers at the highest level of

Dr. Ephraim Amiani Mukisira

Dr. Musikira was born in 1954. He is currently the Director of Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) where he has immensely contributed towards agricultural research and development in the country for twenty six (26) years. Dr. Miriam Gaceri Kinyua

Dr. Kinyua was born in 1960. She is currently serving as Centre Director at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute. She has attained success in the last ten years by developing wheat varieties which are grown in over 80% of the country and in the region. As a result of this achievement, she has been recognized and received an award from the American Biographical Institute. Mr. Okuthe was born in 1947. He is a national long-jump champion who has represented the country in international competitions. Mr. Okuthe was instrumental in the construction of Dandora police station. He is also a sponsor of Ligi Ndogo Soccer for children under Coca-Cola Company. He is the current chairman Kenya National Sports Council. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for his support of community development.

Fridah Bilha Mulwale Shiroya

Ms Shiroya was born in 1948. She pioneered in the Women’s Football in early 1980s and she is the chairperson and pioneer of Kenya Softball Association. Ms Shiroya is an active member of Kenya Women in Sports and is the Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya. She served as a sports administrator for 20 years. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for her efforts in promotion of sporting activities.

Mr. Kasanga was born in 1958 in the Mbitini Location of Kitui District. He is one of the musicians who have made a mark in the country’s gospel music scene. An undergraduate student of Daystar University, he has given his contribution to this country since his youth by associating with music activities in various capacities. Currently he is Music Instructor at Daystar University, a choirmaster and composer with six (6) albums to his credit. He is a producer of sound recordings with over two hundred (200) catalogues at his studios. He is also a music distributor with a network of outlets across the country. He is chairman, Kenya Association of Music producers (KAMP), a member of the Kenya Copyright Board (KCB) and a church Elder at AIC Jericho, Nairobi. Kassim Mambo Rigga

Mr. Rigga was born in 1952. He has over 20 years of distinguished service including as head of public relations at Kenyatta University between 1993 and 2000 during which time, he cultivated a cordial relationship between the student body and the University Administration that contributed to the fewer students’ riots experienced during the period. As one of the pioneer managers of National Aids Control Council (NACC) between 2001 and 2003, he immensely contributed to the massive HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, which resulted in the reduction of HIV/AIDS infection rate from 13% to 6%. He is a resourceful member of the Public Service Commission where he has served since November 2003. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for his distinguished service rendered to the nation.

Stephen Lemoya Ole Mpesha

Mr. Ole Mpesha was born in 1956. He is a trusted and diligent civil servant with exemplary service record. He is currently serving as a member of the Public Service Commission of Kenya. Prior to this, he served as Police Officer where he was a Chief Firearms Licensing Officer and played a critical role in enforcing the law and measures to curtail the infiltration of illegal firearms. As Commissioner, he is dependable and balanced in approach to matters. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for his distinguished service.

Josephine Odira Sinyo

Ms Sinyo was bon in 1956. She is the first visually impaired (blind) woman lawyer in Kenya and the first lady to obtain a Masters degree in Law. She is also the first blind person to be nominated Member of Parliament. She has ably represented Kenya in various international conferences in matters relating to the visually impaired women in Africa. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) in recognition of her extraordinary achievements and role in national development.

Samuel Mwaura Waweru

Mr. Waweru was born in 1950. He has an impressive record of leadership and national service. He was head of the tourism sector as chairman of Kenya Association of Tourist Operators (KATO) for 11 years. When the tourism sector experienced difficult times, he

Prof. Harry Likhagasi Kaane

Prof. Kaane was born in 1953. He has recorded impressive success in the teaching profession, research and engineering fields as a university lecturer and practicing engineer. He is also a Director of Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI). Prof. Kaane spearheaded reforms in Energy, Environment and Industrial Sectors. Joyce Miguda Majiwa

Ms Majiwa was born in 1957. She has served as a Chairperson of F.I.D.A. She has been involved in women rights and has worked closely with organizations that are involved in human rights. Martha Kamba Mburugu

Mrs. Mburugu was bon in 1951. She is currently the Principal of Nkabune Technical Training Institute, which is the only girl’s technical institute in the country. She has developed the institution from a girl’s secondary school to its current status. She has also helped to create employment to the local community and spearheaded supply of piped water to two institutions in Meru Central District. She has also set up part-time classes for upgrading working community’s skills in Meru town. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for her efforts in promotion of education.

Charning Simon Williams

Mr. Williams is renowned film maker who has directed a number of films and documentaries including the award winning “Constant Gardener” that was shot here in Kenya. Besides his contribution to the film industry, he has cultivated a culture of professionalism and set the highest standard for many Kenyans who aspire to be in the film industry. Mr. Williams has indeed played a role in exposing the beauty of the country to the world by choosing Kenya as a location for making films. He has also made substantial donations to upgrade the Kibera slums and is currently paying school fees for a number of children from the slum. Samuel Waihura Kiraguri

Mr. Kiraguri was born in 1955. He is a diligent Accountant who has served as a Provincial Accountant for over ten years with unquestioned loyalty and dedication. Throughout his career, he has kept financial accounts well and advises Provincial Commissioners on the implementation of District Treasuries circulars as a result, the Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner’s Office has not had any audit queries. Mr. Kiraguri has also been an ordained church elder with PCEA church Nakuru since 1985 during which time he participated in building of PCEA churches in Nakuru. Dr. Khadija Ahmed Abdalla

Dr. Abdalla was born on 15th April 1965 in Mombasa district. She is currently an Assistant Director of Medical Services. She has served the community in Garissa District with dedication, through her professional assistance and saving lives. She has encouraged girls to take up education and is a role model to many in the district. She has also been able to manage the Garissa Provincial Hospital in an excellent and corruption free manner. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) in recognition of her efforts and contribution towards provision of health services.

Vijoo Rattansi

Mrs. Vijoo Rattansi is the Chairperson and Director of Rattansi Educational Trust. The Trust currently offers financial assistance to university, teachers’, medical colleges and polytechnic students and has contributed over Kshs.10.5 million this year alone. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) in recognition of her immense contribution towards the welfare of the underprivileged.

Hirji Shah

Mr. Shah was born in December 1936. He is currently the Director of Comcraft Group of Companies. He has rendered dedicated service to the nation by serving the interests of employers through the Kenya Federation of Employers where he has given his time,

Esther Muthoni Passaris

Miss Passaris was born on 20th October 1964 in Mombasa. She is the Managing Director and founder of Adopt-a-Light Ltd. which is behind the street lights initiative that has provided infrastructure for security, road safety and development in Nairobi city including the slum areas. She is a founder member of Starehe Girls School and is a good role model for aspiring female entrepreneurs. Miss Passaris is recognized for her contribution towards national development and for supporting social and economic activities in the country. She is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for her noble initiatives.

Bole Asenath Odaga

Ms Odaga was born in 1940 in Kisumu District. She is a writer, actor and educationist who has made outstanding contribution in the development and promotion of African culture. She has authored many books positioning universal cultural values as central in human development. She has embraced community participation as a strategy for development and people call her “Mama Culture”. She is also the author of the first Dholuo-English dictionary and is presently the Chairperson of Kanyagwar-Kisumu cultural centre. Dr. Sam Thenya

Dr. Thenya was born on 10th November 1968. He is the Founder, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Women’s Hospital. He has been serving in the medical field from 1991 when he was a Research Assistant at University of Nairobi. He also served as Medical Officer at Nyeri Provincial General Hospital. Through his efforts, the Nairobi Women’s Hospital has been offering medical assistance to victims of rape and other abuses including those who cannot afford to pay. Mr. Njenga is a pioneer Foreign Service Officer who served in the 1960s and 1970s during which time he represented the country in diplomatic missions including the United Nations, New York and in the Security Council. He is recognized for his contribution to the Award Programme which has gained prominence and has played a leading role in matters of youth affairs countrywide. Dr. Bactrin Mutabari Killingo

Dr. Killingo is a Palliative Care expert who is also the Chief Executive of Meru Hospice in Meru District. He was instrumental in the setting up of the functions of Meru Hospice. The Hospice serves the terminally ill cancer and AIDS patients within a radius of 100kms. Dr. Killingo has facilitated several conferences and workshops both locally and internationally and is a member of various medical associations. He is a founder member of Kenya Treatment Access Movement (KETAM) and also the Kenya Hospice & Palliative Care Association (KEHPCA), both of which provide care for the poor in resource-disadvantaged settings. James Kimonye

Mr. Kimonye was born in 1959 in Meru District. He is a Food Scientist who currently serves as Managing Commissioner of the recently rehabilitated Kenya Meat Commission. He also served as Group Quality Operations and Controller for major food industries in the East Africa region. Hasmukh Kanji Patel

Mr. Patel was born on 22nd Mach 1967 in Mombasa District. Through his company, Corrugated Group, he has initiated development of programmes resulting in job creation and also support of various development projects around the country. Mr. Patel has also contributed towards educational development through building of schools in Kilifi District. He is awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) for his support for community development.

David Wachira

Mr. Wachira is the current Chairman of Othaya Development Association, an NGO which supports and facilitates development projects in Nyeri District in education, health, water, roads, electricity, agriculture and capacity building of human capital. He is also a member of various development committees and Vice-Chairman of Kenya Bankers Association. Mr. Wachira is among the founders of newly formed Kimathi University in Central Province. Through Jopiny Group she has conducted medical camps in Karachuonyo and Suba districts. Ms Onyonyi was previously a women leader in the SDA Church, Nairobi where she participated in community work in Pumwani Maternity Hospital and Langata Women Prison. WO II Hamud Abdalla Said

WO II Said was born in 1961 in Malindi District. On 25th July 2003 while on a match and shoot exercise, he tirelessly dived into the Ewaso Nyiro River in a successful effort to retrieve a G3 rifle and an LMG barrel which had fallen into the crocodile infested river. The retrieval was difficult to make without the use of specialized equipment and his efforts were a great motivation to his colleagues. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his bravery and dedication to duty.

Sgt. Itipapa Katianyi Koonyo

Sgt. Koonyo was born in 1970 in Narok District. On 23rd July 2003, he daringly saved the life of his fellow officer who had been carried by a crocodile on its back down the River Ewaso Nyiro. His timely and selfless reaction resulted in saving the life of his Section Commander although the crocodile bit of the Commander’s left hand. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his bravery.

Sgt. David Wanyonyi Sirengo

Sgt. Sirengo was born in 1972 in Bungoma district. He is recognized for displaying high level of bravery and self defence as demonstrated when he confronted four armed thugs in Kayole, Nairobi and disarmed them. He recovered and handed over a pistol

Cpl. Samuel Otira Onyango

Cpl. Onyango was born in 1961 in Karachuonyo District. On 23rd July 2003, while on a match and shoot exercise, he volunteered to search for a rifle, which had dropped into Ewaso Nyiro River during which time, he dived twice into the river and was attacked by a crocodile. He fought it as his colleagues were trying to save him and was freed with a severed left hand. He is recognized for his efforts in voluntarily and bravely searching for the rifle and became an inspiration to his colleagues. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his act of bravery.

L/Cpl. Guhat Malak

L/Cpl Malak was born on 1st July 1964 in Mandera District. He was enlisted into the Armed Forces in 1985 and posted to the 20 Parachute Battalion. L/Cpl. Malak performs his duties with devotion and zeal. He is recognized for acting with valour during a security operation in Baragoi where he lost his hand when they came in contact with bandits in 1999. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his bravery and devotion to duty.

S/ACAP Fred Mbithi Mwei

S/ACAP Mwei was born in November 1967 in Machakos District. He was enlisted into the Administration Police Force in 1994 and served in the field until 2004 when he was transferred to the Headquarters. He is currently a Senior Assistant Commandant in charge of planning and research. He is an able Officer who has to his credit the entrenchment of the concept of work plans, capacity building in border security controls and establishment of AIDS control units and also research units. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his dedication to service.

Hussein Hassan Molu (Posthumous)

The late Molu was, until his death, serving as an Assistant Commandant of Administration Police Force. He died in a road accident while travelling to Nairobi from Embu to attend a Small Arms and Light Weapons Workshop. While in service he helped to recover 2 AK47 rifles and 20 herds of stolen cattle on 16th April 2001 in Mandera District. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS), posthumously, in recognition of his dedicated service.

SP Jaro Roba

Sp. Roba was bon in 1956. He has served as Administration Police Officer in various districts in the country for twenty seven (27) years rising through the ranks to become a Superintendent of Police. On 12th July 2005, during the Turbi attack where several lives were lost, he was able to recover two AK47 rifles and together with his team of officers under his command, recovered 200 stolen herds of cattle. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his courage in discharging his duties.

John Halake Harbale

Mr. Harbale was born in 1966. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st August 1992 as an Assistant Warden III and rose to his current position of Senior Warden I on 1st August 2006. He is recognized for successfully planning and leading an undercover operation at Tsavo West National Park which led to the recovery of six pieces of ivory being smuggled to a neighbouring country on 17th May 2006. He also led another successful operation within Lamu District on 26th May 2006. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his commitment to service.

Lilian Ochieng Ajuoga

Ms Ajuoga was born in 1976. She was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 21st December 2001 as an Assistant Warden II. She, together with the late Ole Sisina gallantly unearthed illegal poaching of bush meat at Soysambu Ranch in April 2005. Despite the shooting and killing of her colleague, she courageously raised an alarm and her senior colleagues came to her rescue. Several carcasses were also seized by KWS at a slaughterhouse. She is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for gallantly performing her duties.

Cpl. Ibrahim Hassan Choo

Cpl. Choo was born in 1968. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st

March 1990 as a Ranger. He is recognized for his dedication to duty including his participation in disposing of three poachers and recovery of four rhino horns, 240 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and two AK47 assault rifles. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his dedication to duty.

John Makyo Ouma(Posthumous)

The late Mr. Ouma was a hard working officer who until his death was the Deputy Regional coordinator Eastern Region of the National Security Intelligence Service. He died in a plane crash in Marsabit while on a peace keeping mission together with other government officers. He is recognized for his efforts in fostering peace dedication to service. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS), posthumously in recognition of his exemplary performance of duty.

James Kirumbi Kimani (Posthumous)

The late Prof. Kimani served as Managing Director of University of Nairobi Enterprise and Services Ltd. (UNES), which he initiated. During his career in teaching at the university, he held senior positions and appointments and received several academic awards for his research work. Prof. Kimani played an instrumental role in the development of Module II Programmes at the University of Nairobi and also in the development of studies in Human Anatomy in the country. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS), posthumously, in recognition of his achievements in the development of education.

Gilbert Mlyanga Siang’a (Posthumous)

The late Mr. Siang’a was born on 1st August 1959 in Nambale, Busia District. He joined the Civil Service in 1985 as an Assistant Secretary and rose through the ranks to become an Under Secretary. Until his death, he served with dedication and commitment. He was instrumental in conflict resolution and peace building initiatives and he died while on a peace mission to the northern part of Eastern Province. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS), posthumously, in recognition of his dedicated service and efforts in maintenance of security.

Lazaro Akunga Kimang’a

Mr. Kimang’a was born on 4th December 1955 in Kisii District. He is the Treasurer and Chairman of Finance Committee and also Administration of the St. John Ambulance Kenya. He has rendered selfless service and contributed to mankind as a senior volunteer of St. John with outstanding dedication, devotion and commitment for eighteen (18) years. He has been active in national development through support of the

Dr. Donati Njama

Dr. Njama was born on 17th May 1940 in Taita-Taveta District. He has served in the St. John Ambulance Kenya selflessly for 26 years rising to the rank of Deputy Chief Surgeon. He has been most instrumental in the growth of the medical committee which sets and oversees standards of services in the medical profession by developing and reviewing training materials. He initiated HIV/AIDS activities and free medical camps and is also involved in disaster response activities and management of incidents. Dr. Njama has sacrificed his time to provide free medical services in children’s home and slum dwellers and is also active in community health education. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his exemplary service.

Ramesh Chunilal Mehta

Mr. Mehta was born on 27th April 1945 in Kisumu District. He has served St. John Ambulance Kenya for eleven (11) years providing able leadership to the Council in Nyanza region. In 1994, he sourced for an ambulance from the Lions Club of Kenya which is still providing services to residents of Kisumu and its environs. Mr. Mehta has served St. John Ambulance selflessly and has used his personal resources to support activities of the organization. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for his selfless service.

Margaret Consolata Wamuyu Wanjohi

Ms Wanjohi was born on 25th December 1950 in Kirinyaga District. She is the Principal Nursing Officer at St. John Ambulance Kenya. She has been one of the most dedicated volunteers having served for twenty eight (28) years in various capacities. She is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Medical Committee of the Organization and is an active member of the First Aid Training Committee. She has helped to develop the HIV/AIDS curriculum for St. John and also participates in medical camps for the disadvantaged communities and assists in sourcing for food and clothing to be donated to the poor. Ms Wanjohi is also actively involved in casualty rescue missions. She is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for her tireless efforts in service to the needy.

David Wainaina Waweru (alias Maasai)

Mr. Waweru was born on 4th April 1974 in Nyandarua District. He is mason and has been constructing residential and business premises both in Nairobi and in Naivasha town. Mr. Waweru selflessly and voluntarily participated in the rescue operations during the collapse of a building along River Road in Nairobi in 2006. He was also involved in assisting the victims of the August 1998 bomb blast in Nairobi. His efforts won the admiration of officers who were involved in the rescue operations. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) for tireless efforts in rescue operations.

The late Fr. D’Agostino was born on 26th January 1926 in USA. After working in his native country he came to Kenya in 1981 to work among refugees. In 1990 he started Nyumbani Children’s Home an orphanage for HIV poitive children in Nairobi. By the time of his death in November 2006, the home catered for 95 orphans. He also started other institutions for disadvantaged and vulnerable children. He is awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS), posthumously for his tireless efforts in philanthropic endeavours.

S/Sgt. William Kipkurui Rono

S/Sgt. Rono was born in 1958 in Bureti District. In August 2006, he successfully modified and fabricated accessories for the Tucano Puma aircraft to enable it effectively operate in hostile conditions. He modified the gun, fitted it and upon testing on 24th August 2006, it was found to be effective in its intended capability and operation. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) in recognition of his initiative and commitment to service.

He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his noble initiative and commitment to service.

SSP Mbae has worked tirelessly to bring down crime in the district and relates well with other stakeholders in the field of security, an initiative that has helped to curb crime. CI Harrison Wambua Muindi

CI Muindi was born in 1957. He was enlisted into the Police Force on 3rd October 1997. He has served in various capacities including as Officer Commanding Station (OCS). He is currently stationed at Moi International Airport, Mombasa where he has maintained very high level of security alertness thus guaranteeing safety to passengers and workers. IP Paul Maingo Mumo

IP Mumo was born in 1969. He was enlisted into the Police Force on 16th December 1989 and subsequently served at Oyugis Police station, as Instructor at Kenya Police Training College and also in the Presidential Escort. He is a disciplined and courageous officer who has displayed a sense of professionalism, patriotism and dedication to duty. Snr. Sgt. Gerald Muturi Maigua

Snr. Sgt. Maigua was born in 1961. He was enlisted into the Police Force on 1st

September 1981 and served at the General Service Unit (GSU). He has represented the country in international shooting competitions including the United Kingdom Bisley Championships and in West Germany in 1989 and also in the UK in 1991, 1995 and in 2004. He has managed to courageously pursue them leading to their arrest and prosecution. He has also recovered firearms, ammunition and other stolen property during such operations. Cpl. Ezekiel Masake Wanga

Cpl. Wanga was born in 1979. He is an investigator who performs his duties with dedication. Besides his investigative assignments, he has also served in general duties in various parts of the country. Due to his immense investigative skills, he has won several commendations. Const. George Mulongo Kwoba

Const. Kwoba was born in 1974. He is a patriotic Police Officer who has excelled in the field of athletics. He is a member of the Kenya Police athletics team and has represented the country in various championships abroad including the African Championships held in Mauritius in August 2006. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his achievement in sports.

Const. Const.Paul Kimutai Langat

Const. Langat was born in 1976. He has served in the Police Force for seven years in Nairobi during which time he has exhibited a high sense of responsibility and courage while going about his duties. He has confronted armed and dangerous criminals in the city and managed, with support from his colleagues, to arrest them and recover stolen goods. Some of the criminals arrested have been jailed and others are awaiting determination of their cases. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) in recognition of his devoted efforts in enforcing the law.

SSP Samuel Mbugua Kimwere

SSP Kimwere was born in 1954. He was enlisted into the Administration Police in 1976. On 5th July 1990 at Fino Division of Mandera District, he led a team of officers in pursuit of Somali nationals who had killed three Administration Police Officers and robbed them of their firearms. The team arrested them and recovered the stolen firearms and other goods belonging to the Kenya Government. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his commitment to service.

IP Hassan Aljir Isaack

IP Isaack was born in 1970. He was enlisted into the Administration Police Force in 1996 as a Constable and rose through the ranks to become an Inspector. He has been instrumental in setting up and structuring of ICT faculty at the Administration Police Training College and introduced programmes tailored to improve efficiency and accountability in the department. A computer lab is now operational and IP Isaack has single handedly overseen the training of over 200 officers. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his initiative and commitment to duty.

Const. William Pokoni Ngorwa

Const. Ngorwa was born in 1979 and is currently and Administration Police Constable. On 25th June 2004, he managed to dispose of two gangsters who had commandeered a vehicle in Narok district. He recovered two US made revolvers with eight live ammunitions. One suspect was arrested and Kshs. 95,175 belonging to a tobacco company was recovered from the gangsters. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for dedicated service.

Const. Jacob Mekii

Const. Mekii was born in 1979. On 13th September 2002, he managed to secure and guard Kshs.7.5 million after a Securicor van that was carrying it overturned in the outskirts of Eldoret town. He ensured safe handling of the money and medical attention for those injured. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) in recognition of his dedication to duty.

She is stationed at Yatta Field unit and deployed as a farm officer, a duty she has done well especially in the sector of integrated modern horticultural farming with the introduction of green houses. She has contributed immensely to the generation of Appropriation-In-Aid through the sale of farm products. Joseph Kingoina Nyakundi

Mr. Nyakundi was born in 1963. He was enlisted into the National Youth Service (NYS) as a volunteer service member in January, 1983. He is deployed at the NYS headquarters, Operations Branch where he handles radio communication, and is also engaged in counselling services at the Service’s VCT centre (a collective campaign towards HIV/AIDS awareness and eradication). Mr. Nyakundi has done well in his assignment, which has seen many VCT centers opened in major stations of the NYS. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his dedicated service.

Asha Yusuf Anoor

Ms Anoor was born in 1962. She was enlisted in the National Youth Service (NYS) as a volunteer servicewoman in January 1983. She is stationed at Nairobi Holding Unit and in charge of Senior Officers Mess. Because of her organizational skills and knowledge in catering services, she has been able to revamp the mess to quality status. She handles very important visitors well during official functions to the satisfaction of the administering authority. As an officer, she also handles other duties in line with her job description perfectly well. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for her devotion to duty.

Peter Kingori

Mr. Kingori was born in 1952. He joined the National Youth Service (NYS) as untrained technical teacher in November, 1976. He later undertook technical teacher course and qualified as a Technical Instructor. He is stationed at the NYS Tana Basin Road Project as the Principal of the mechanical training school. He has performed well in training skilled youth for self sustenance thus contributing to development of skilled manpower needed in the job market. Besides his routine assignments in maintenance works, which cover service projects and stations in remote locations where generators are used for electrification purposes, Mr. Rukunga also undertakes on- job-training instructions for students attached to his section for practical work. ACP Kennedy Akala Aluda

ACP Aluda was born in 1964. He is serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Prisons. Throughout his service, he has been a very resourceful person and plays a key role in the organization of prisons stands which continue to excel in ASK Shows and even in the Nairobi International Trade Fair. As a professional designer, he is well known for his unique designs of prison items. His integrity and commitment to service has enabled him to be elevated to his current position of Deputy Director of Technical Services. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his devotion and commitment to service.

SSP Mary Chemtai Chepkonga

SSP Chepkonga was born in 1957. She has served with high integrity and devotion in the Prisons Department. Due to her good public relations and initiative, she has steered the department’s AIDS Control Unit which she heads, to establish VCT centres in many prisons and creating AIDS awareness. She works even at non-official hours without any compensation to save lives. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for her exemplary performance of duty.

SSP Martha Sami

SSP Sami was born in 1964. She has stood out as an exceptional leader and has served diligently in various capacities in the Prisons Department including being Principal Assistant to the Eastern Provincial Prisons Commander. Currently, she is efficiently managing Embu Main Prison which is a male prison. She is a role model especially to fellow female Officers through her brave and wise management of challenging tasks. SP Kahi was bon in 1963 and currently serves as a Superintendent of Prisons. He has shown a lot of obedience by moving to any station he is asked to without complaining. SP Abdallah Siomi Mohammed

SP. Mohammed was born in 1964. He served in the Prisons Department selflessly rising to his current position of Superintendent. S/Sgt. Ernest Simion Kipkee Boit

S/Sgt. Boit was born in 1957. He has served for 29 years in the Prisons Department rising through the ranks to become a Senior Sergeant. He has displayed a lot of wisdom and dedication to work. Snr. Sergeant Boit has a record of easing tense situations in blocks occupied by capital offenders. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his dedication to duty.

Cpl. Emelda Adhiambo Wandera

Cpl. Wandera was bon in 1956. She has served in the Prisons Department selflessly and has excelled while working in Shimo-la-Tewa Prison. She was appointed as an Instructor at the Prisons Staff Training College where she has worked for 27 years in which period she has produced some of the best trainers. She is humble, obedient and among the longest serving instructors at the College. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for her dedicated service.

Christine Boit Maritim

Warden Maritim was born in 1964. She was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st September 1999 as a Ranger. She courageously addressed over 200 morans who were armed with bows, spears and arrows at Kapluk-Kerio Valley following the killing of two people by a rogue elephant thus pre-empting a potential and explosive conflict. On 22nd and 23rd March 2006, she successfully coordinated the rescue of three elephants that were stuck in the mud in Lake Kamnarok National Reserve. She has also mobilized the local communities on sustainable natural resource management. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for her dedicated service.

Cpl. Paul Busienei Kibet

Cpl. Kibet was born in 1971. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) as a Ranger on 15th March 1993. On 14th February 2006, he led a team to uproot a Bhang plantation in Chogoria side of Mt. Kenya where they were attacked by a rogue elephant. He personally confronted the elephant and was knocked down thereby sustaining three rib injuries. He later freed himself by putting his injured fingers into the elephant’s trunk and brought the team together. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for bravery and devotion to duty.

Martha Njeri Gitau

Ranger Gitau was born in 1980. She was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 8th July 2005. On 10th April 2006, she displayed exceptional courage and selflessness by rushing to a plane crash site in Marsabit and together with her colleagues, carried survivors and airlifted them to Nairobi thereby saving their lives. Cpl. Peter Kinuthia

Cpl. Kinuthia was born in 1972. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st September 1992 as a Ranger. On 31st December 2005, he successfully led an undercover operation and arrested one foreigner in Kwale district who was involved in smuggling snakes to the American and European continents. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his dedication to duty.

Felix Luvati Lukuyu

Mr. Lukuyu was born in 1963. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st July 1994 as a Ranger. While discharging his duties, he courageously and bravely stopped a carjacking incident on 28th September 2005 and was able to single-handedly disarm and arrest two robbers and recovered a toy pistol. The passengers of the vehicle were safely rescued. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his tact and bravery.

Mohamed Galgalo Madera

Mr. Madera was born in1965. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 1st January 2006 as a Community Wildlife Officer. On 10th April 2006, he displayed exceptional courage and selflessness by rushing to a plane crash site in Marsabit and together with his colleagues, carried survivors and airlifted them to Nairobi thereby saving there lives. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his devotion and commitment to serve.

Cpl. Kishun Mamo Sora

Cpl Sora was born in 1973. He was enlisted into the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on 19th

May 2000 as a Ranger. He, together with the late Ole Sisina gallantry unearthed the 46

illegal poaching in bush meat at Soysambu Ranch in April 2005. Despite the shooting and killings of his colleague, he courageously raised an alarm to his senior colleagues who came for his rescue. Several carcasses were also seized by KWS at a slaughterhouse. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Military Division) for his courage in discharging his duties.

Eric Wainaina

Mr. Wainaina is a renowned music artist both locally and internationally. He has produced songs which promote unity, patriotism and solace in the country. In 2000, he produced the song “Nchi ya kitu Kidogo” which helped in the crusade against corruption and received international recognition. Mr. Wainaina continues to promote nationalism through music and is an inspiration to many. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution towards national cohesion and promotion of culture.

Jacob Kilimo Kisang

Mr. Kisang was born in 1938. He rendered service as a Clinical Officer for 34 years rising to a position of Chief Clinical Officer. He is also Director, Kerio Valley Development Authority and Chairman of various school and church organizations. He retired on 1st

March 1993 and he is recognized for his contribution towards improvement of health services in Marakwet District. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution towards provision of health services.

Esther Njeri Kiragu

Mrs Kiragu was born in 1943. She served as Chairperson of National Nurses Association between 1988 and 1992 and is currently its life member. She helped found the Private Nurses Association and the Health Management Agency where she serves as Director. She has gallantly endeavoured to uphold excellence in the nursing practice through nursing education, research and promoting nursing professionalism. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her meritorious service.

Prof. Isaac Ongubo Kibwage

Prof. Kibwage was born in 1954. He has distinguished himself as a teacher and scholar through development of manpower for pharmaceutical services in the country. He has practiced pharmacy and drug regulation as a member of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and served as Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya. He was also a consultant and lead editor of proceedings leading to the National Drug policy of 1994. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of his contribution towards provision of health services.

Prof. Dominic Were Makawiti

Prof. Makawiti was born in 1955. He is the Head of Biochemistry, University of Nairobi a position he has held for ten years. He also served as Dean of Pre-Clinical Department, and the School of Medicine; President of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular

Mr. Wa-Theuri was born in 1928. He retired from the Public Service in 1985 as Deputy Secretary after an illustrious and distinguished career in administration. He served the government in various capacities and is an active and dedicated board member of the Kimathi Institute of Technology where he was a co-founder. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for distinguished service he has rendered to the nation.

James Mbogo Miruri

Mr. Miruri was born in 1951. He has served the government for the last 30 years. Throughout his career, he has served with dedication and has made remarkable contribution in the initiation and management of seminars and workshops for public servants. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for dedicated service.

Hawkins Muhia Chege

Mr. Chege was born in 1959. He has over twenty (20) years experience in the Public Service and has risen to the level of Deputy Director of Personnel Management due to his commitment and dedication in the performance of his duties. He has made significant contributions in the formulation and implementation of policies and guidelines on human resource management for improved services delivery. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his devotion and commitment to duty.

Isaac Kiprop Chebon

Mr. Chebon was born in 1964. He is currently serving as Director, Baringo Government Training Institute. He has provided effective leadership, innovation and creativity thereby commanding respect among his colleagues. He has greatly improved service delivery at the Institute. Rose Kavata Masya

Mrs. Masya was born on 8th April 1954 in Kitui District. She is currently serving as Deputy Programme Director, Permanent Public Service Remuneration Review Board. Prior to her current appointment, she served as a teacher in various schools rising to become a Programme Officer at the Kenya National Commission for Unesco between 1985 and 1993. Mr. Wangila was born in 1968. As a Forest Guard at the rank of Corporal, he has contributed immensely towards protection and conservation of forestry resources. He has led a spirited crackdown on illegal movement of forest produce within Nairobi and its environs which has resulted in impounding of over fifty (50) lorries during the year 2006, all in possession of forestry materials without government authorization. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his effective role in conservation of forests.

Simon K. Mbarire

Mr. Mbarire was born in 1952. He has rendered exemplary service in the field of environmental conservation and management and also in the planning and development of environmental programmes and activities for achieving environmental sustainability. He has promoted awareness activities aimed at inculcating good environmental practices at all levels and has successfully coordinated environmental protection programmes in the country. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in environmental conservation.

Maina Njoki Kamau

Ms Kamau was born in 1959. She has rendered exemplary service to the country spanning twenty eight years with loyalty, dedication and diligence. She currently serves in the Department of Mines and Geology where she is in charge of records. She is also an official member of Kenya Youth Association and Vice-Chairman of Makadara Welfare Association. She is reputed to have initiated a tree planting project at Madini House which has resulted in beatification of the building and its environs. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her initiative and dedication to duty.

Joseph Kangara Kimemia

Mr. Kimemia was born in 1956. He is a Director of Research at the Coffee Research Foundation where he has played a role in developing farming systems for semi-arid lands in the country. He has spent twenty years in developing technologies for high quality coffee production and is also an overall co-ordinator of coffee research in the country. He has made significant contribution as a research agronomist for both food and cash crop enterprises for small scale farmers. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of his contribution to research activities.

Wilson Maundu Kyalo

Mr. Kyalo was born in 1939. He served as Director of Kenya Dairy Board for nine years and as Agricultural Inspector (Dairy cow breeding) and also an active member of

Rev. Sister Veronica Thiga

Rev. Thiga was born in 1957. She has served as an Assistant Agricultural Officer in various districts and also worked with self help groups and has featured in various forums including being among the “top women achievers” in 2005. She has been responsible for successful mobilization of women groups in Murang’a and Thika districts. She has been able to introduce agro-business within women groups and has initiated and promoted initiatives geared towards value addition and income generation. She works selflessly and is indeed an asset to the ministry’s extension services. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her dedication and notable efforts agricultural development.

Wycliffe Awuori Mutsune

Mr. Mutsune was born in 1935. He served as Managing Director, Kenya Tourist Development Corporation from 1982 to 1989 and prior to this, he was an employee of the same organization for nineteen years. He currently serves as Chairman of NGO’s Coordination Board. He is also a Consultant Economist In tourism, financial management and institutional development. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his meritorious service rendered to the nation.

Alice Wanjiku Maina

Mrs. Maina was born in 1970. She is currently serving as a Human Resource Management Officer in the Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing. She was the first Human Resource Officer to organize field visits through out central province while serving in the Ministry of Health. She was among 19 officers who were promoted without the need for interview in 2003. Mrs. Maina has also composed, sang and produced several patriotic and heritage songs which have featured prominently both in radio and television. Her talent in music and message delivery has been evident in the songs she has produced including the song “I am Proud to be a Kenyan” which was among the top twenty out of 1,000 songs. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her patriotism and efforts promoting music in the country.

Mr. Dunford was born in 1988. He has attained international recognition by excelling in swimming. He is the first Kenyan swimmer to be ranked among the top ten in the 100m and 200m events. Kennedy Nyamweya Ayoti

Mr. Ayoti was born in 1965 in Kisii District. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer, Mater Hospital. He has made tremendous contribution in promotion of culture and has innovated the popular culture theme night’s concept as a response to inter-ethnic animosity and travel advisories. These efforts have revitalized domestic tourism and cohesiveness amongst communities. Simon Kimani Njogu

Prof. Njogu was born on 20th December 1953 in Kericho District. He is a researcher, scholar and educationist who has contributed enormously to development of Kiswahili and other indigenous language at national and international levels. He is a relentless crusader for integration of indigenous languages and culture in mainstream development and has mobilized language experts to utilize culture as a development tool. Charles Oliver Simpson

Mr. Simpson was born in 1932 in Scotland. He joined an International Engineering Company with whom he undertook contracts in Kenya, Iraq, and Pakistan respectively. He eventually formed his own engineering company in Nairobi and became involved in Film Productions during the course of 1984 and has remained within the film industry to date. Samuel Ndichu Kimani

Nicolas Ragae Kamau

Mr. Kamau was born in 1952. He has worked in the Public Service for 28 years including in Ministries of Agriculture and also Water and Irrigation through which he has contributed to the development of over 100,000ha for irrigation directly and indirectly thereby assisting over 2,000,000 Kenyans out of poverty, hunger and unemployment. He chaired the Multi-sectoral Task Force on formulation of National Irrigation Policy and steered development of 42 smallholder irrigation schemes covering over 2,500ha. Daniel Barasa Kidwoli

Mr. Kidwoli was born in 1958. He joined the Civil Service in 1983. Mr. Kidwoli headed Construction department in the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Co., between 1990 and 1991. He also participated in disaster management during the drought of early 1990’s and in El-Nino rains. He has headed operations and maintenance in Ministry of Water and Irrigation where he is currently in charge of implementation of Water Act. Eng. Charles Mugo Mimano

Eng. Mimano was born in 1953. He has effectively coordinated management of over 600 water schemes and 30 sewerage schemes operated by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. He also coordinates over 800 schemes operated by other water service providers thereby ensuring reliable water services for industrial use and to more than 10 million consumers. He has supervised the training of more than 300 members of staff in the ministry. Eng. Mimano is hard working, competent, obedient, honest and responsible. John Philip Olum

Mr. Olum was born on 24th June 1955 in Kisumu District. He has served for 28 years in various capacities in the public service and is currently serving as General Manager, National Irrigation Board. Since he took over, the Board has made a turn-around and is now at a level where schemes are now rehabilitated and operational to the satisfaction of the stakeholders. Elizabeth Okong’o Odera

Ms Odera was born in 1962. She is a professional coach and sports medicine specialist. She supports community schools and educates poor children in Kibera slums. She has also provided sports training facilities for national rugby teams. She is also a trainer with Youth Tennis Academy and Sadili Oval sports center which supports poor youth in developing their sports talent. He was also elected to the Cricket Association in Kenya and also worked for the International Cricket Association. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Cricket Kenya and Tournament Director of the Africa Cricket Association. Elisha Kasuku Odada

Mr. Odada was born in 1951. He pioneered professional Golf in the country and is the Chairman of Professional Golfers of Kenya. He is also a walker in the National Athletics team and Golf Coach. Mr. Odada has ably represented Kenya during international golf championships. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his efforts in promotion of golf in the country.

Hardev Singh Kular

Mr. Kular was born in 1930. He played hockey in the national team for many years and represented the country during the 1972 Olympic Games. He was also the Chairman Kenya Hockey Union for many years. He currently plays advisory role to Kenya Hockey Union. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his achievements in sports.

Lucy Wangui Kabuu

Ms Kabuu was born in 1980. She is a leading athlete who finished 9th at the 2006 Athens Olympic Games. She won the national cross-country championships in 2005. She also won a Gold medal in 10,000 and Bronze in 5000m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Ms Kabuu has brought honour to the country through her achievements. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her excellent performance in athletics.

Dr. Joseph Masiga

Dr. Masiga was born in 1957. He is a great inspiration to soccer and rugby players. He was in the national teams of soccer and rugby at the same time in the 1980s. He is a dentist by profession and has demonstrated that one can excel in both sports and academics. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for achievement in sports.

Joan Amisi Atieno

Ms Atieno was born in 1956. She is a support staff in the Ministry of Roads and Public Works where she works with minimum supervision and is always the first person to report to work. She daily opens and closes the main gate to the offices even after working hours and she ensures that electricity has been switched off after all employees have left. Ms Atieno also maintains the cleanliness of the conference room and even washes all the window curtains for the whole building. She good public relations and relates well with members other of staff and the public too. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her diligence and exemplary performance of duty.

James Wycliffe Amukhale

Mr. Amukhale was born in 1953. He has served as Executive Secretary of the Kenya Music Festival from 1997 to date. The organization has grown to be the largest cultural event in Africa and is the largest co-curricular activity in the ministry of education. He has also been involved in organizing workshops and seminars for music teachers. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for dedicated service.

Jacob Nyavanga Lugalia

Mr. Lugalia was born in 1955. He is a Senior Music Programmes Officer with the Permanent Presidential Music Commission. Prior to this appointment, he has been a music teacher in both primary and high schools for over 25 years. He pioneered the teaching and development of African traditional music instruments both in the school curriculum and in the church music. He championed the use of the African traditional music instruments into the Roman Catholic Church by developing traditional music instruments and incorporating them into church music. In West Pokot, in 1997, he was invited to perform to the Pope John Paul II, during his visit to Kenya and was also invited to perform in the Vatican City in Rome, in the same year. Mr. Lugalia has championed the development of African traditional music instruments orchestra in learning institutions’ music festivals from the zonal to the national level. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution to cultural development.

Joseph Ngala

Mr. Joseph Ngala (Mzee Bango) was born in 1935 in Kisauni Frere town Mombasa. His early education was at Kengeleni Primary School and later went to Shimo la Tewa School. Mr. Ngala created an interest in music from a very tender age through listening to music from his father’s gramophone which encouraged him to improvise shift flutes using paw reeds and polythene, with which he used to play music. He has been credited with formation various famous bands especially in the coastal region including the Bahari Boys’ and composition of various favourite tunes. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of his achievement in music.

Emilius Muchora Ndiritu

Mr. Ndiritu was born in 1943. He has rendered long service as a lecturer and researcher on the legal systems in the country having been among the first indigenous lawyers. He is the founding Secretary, University of Nairobi Enterprises Services Ltd. and the founding co-ordinator and Head of Department of Law at Catholic University. He is also Chairman of the Board of Governor, Karima Boys High School. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution to education.

Bertha Wakera Mwai

Mrs. Mwai was born in 1952. She is a Deputy Labour Commissioner in the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development. She is devoted and committed to her duties and rendered distinguished service in the fight to eliminate child Labour in the country. As a result, the country was cited as one of the world countries that made impressive reduction on child labour. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her devotion and commitment to service.

Dr. Dan Kagagi

Dr. Kagagi was born in 1964. He has promoted the country as a tourist destination through the Tourism Trust Fund and the development of community based tourism. Many communities in the country have become stakeholders in the tourism sector thereby contributing to poverty alleviation. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his immense contribution towards promotion of tourism.

Leonard Nduati Kariuki

John Mburu Matheri

Mr. Matheri was born in 1960. He is currently Chairman, Nyandarua County Council, Director of Kenya Co-operative Creameries and also a representative of dairy farmers in Ol-joro-orok Division. He is recognized for steering the Council to become efficient and well organized and for supporting the revival of the dairy sector in the Nyandarua District. Richard Kiana Gikuhi

Mr. Gikuhi was born in 1952. He has been serving as a Town Clerk for thirteen years and has also been involved in water sector and Local Government reforms and has initiated successful council projects. Mr. Gikuhi currently serves as Clerk to Nyeri Municipal council, where he has managed to steer the affairs of the town with integrity and dedication. He initiated the inception of Nyeri Water Company and has improved service provision. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for dedicated service.

Muito Kabuya

Mr. Kabuya is a member of District Education Board, Nyeri and also a Patron of Kiagumba Primary, Chinga and Othaya Secondary schools. Mr. Wa-Githendu was born in 1952. He has worked at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) as a Seed Technologist and has produced seed varieties in maize and other pulses. He is currently a Chief Research Officer at KARI where he has been involved in regional initiative that is focusing on poverty reduction through marketing and adoption of various varieties of seed by the East African farming communities. He has played a role in seed variety formulation, promotion and marketing as well as creating linkages between Kenya and other key stakeholders. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of his immense role in agricultural research.

John A. Musundi

Mr. Musundi was born in 1925. He has spent his life promoting co-operatives since independence. He has been a leader in all co-operative organizations from primary, national and international levels. As Chairman of Kenya National Federation of Co-operatives, he co-founded the Co-operative Bank, Co-operative Insurance Services, National Cooperative Housing Union and the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperative Union. Mr. Musundi’s co-operative leadership records are quite impressive. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of his distinguished service rendered to the nation.

John Muchiri Nyaga

Mr. Nyaga was born in 1962. He participated in the revival of Aembu Sacco Society, which was almost collapsing. As chairman of Gakundu Farmers Co-operative Society, he has initiated computerization of the Sacco thus improving service delivery. He is also a Director of the Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (KPCU) and has been in support of the government’s efforts in restructuring KPCU. Emily Jerop Boit

Mrs Boit was born in 1963. Through her personal commitment, Kurur Women Consumer Co-operative Society, which consists of largely illiterate business oriented rural women, has transformed into a strong society. It now owns a petrol station, commercial and residential property including a posho mill in Uasin Gishu District. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) in recognition of her role in community development.

Raymond Gitau Wanyugi

Mr. Wanjugi was born in 1957. Through his good management and leadership, Ndumberi Coffee Farmers Co-operative Society Ltd. has become one of the few coffee societies that have no outstanding non-performing loans. He is also the Chairman of Kiambu Coffee Growers Cooperative Union and the Kiambu District Cooperative Executive Committee. He is also reputed to have championed the revival of International Cooperative Day celebrations in Kiambu District after a lapse of eight years. Odhiambo J.W. Oloo

Richard Onyango Ondeng’

Patrick Mwanzia Jones

Dr. Mwinyikione Mwinyihija

Dr. Mwinyihija was born in 1959. He has served in the public service for 25 years in the technical level rising to the rank of Assistant Chief Leather Development Officer. He has been able to effectively promote the hides and skins industry resulting in a significant foreign exchange earning by the country. He is also involved in environmental protection and creation of through tanneries. He has won many international awards including the Marquis “Who is Who” in science and engineering, 2006 edition. Charles Nyambisa Ayora

Mr. Ayora was born in 1952. He has served as a Senior Chief for 20 years. He is hard-working and is dedicated to his work. He was a member of a task force for the chief’s scheme of service. Henry Jilani Mbaga

Mr. Mbaga was born in 1935 in Kilifi District. He served as a Teacher, was later appointed as a Chief, and is currently a member of Kikambala Land Dispute Tribunal. During his career as a Chief, he set exemplary performance and also raised educational standards while serving as a teacher and fostered development. He has rescued several girls from early marriages and assisted the girl child in many ways. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his exemplary service.

Ali Juma Mafimbo

Mr. Mafimbo was born in 1959 in Kwale District. He has initiated and still supports Matuga Youth Polytechnic and has set up a scholarship scheme to assist the needy in Kwale District. He was among those who started Waa Girls and has been supporting the institution. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in development of education.

Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed

Mr. Mohamed was born in July 1962 in Mandera District. He has worked tirelessly to promote peace and security in Tana River District though his community based organization and has facilitated the formation of peace committees at vocational levels, which have organized peace meetings and peace marathons with assistance from Oxfam, Great Britain and the Government. He has immensely promoted education among pastoralists. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his peace building initiatives.

Seth Abio Meshack

Mr. Meshack was born in 1935 in Tana River District. He has actively participated in community development especially adoption of micro-irrigation farming aimed at improving food security in Tana River District. He has also promoted education in Wenje Division and played a major role in establishment of Wenje Secondary School in the

He has been Chairman of the Board of Governors of Murray Girls High School. He is also Chairman of Macadamia Association, Taita Taveta district and Chairman of District Medical Board. Twalib Ali Mbarak

Mr. Mbarak was born on 11th March 1969 in Mombasa District. He has contributed towards education of the poor and bright children in the country through the Universal Education Trust which has sponsored more than 5,000 students throughout the country. John Mungania

Mr. Kotecha was born in 1939. He has played an important role in community development including Itumbu Primary School. He feeds the street children and orphans in homes on weekly basis and relates well with the public. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his philanthropic activities.

Ebby Kanguha Kavai

Mrs. Kavai was born in 1960. She is the current Head Teacher of Maganda Girls Sec. School in Lugari Distict. She has greatly contributed to the girl child education and generally improved academic performance of this District. Since taking over as head teacher in 2000, academic performance of the school has improved. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her contribution towards education.

Julius Makatiani

Mr. Makatiani was born in 1942. He served as Assistant Agricultural Research Officer for twenty years with distinction. He is Chairman of a farmers’ group and role model to members and farmers in Kakamega District. Mr. Makatiani is also Chairman of boards of St. Mary’s and Bishop Sulumeti Girls High schools and has contributed greatly to education in Butere/Mumias and Kakamega districts. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his efforts in promotion of education.

Robert Kangwana Ayisi

Mr. Ayisi was born in 1957. He has contributed immensely to medical programmes in Western Province and the country as a whole. He is a senior medical specialist serves as a Programme Manager at the National HIV and STD Control Programme (NASCOP) in the

Elizabeth Gathoni Koinange

Mrs Koinange was born in around 1900 in Kiambu District. She is the only surviving wife of the Late Senior Chief Koinange wa Mbiyu who died in 1960 soon after his release from colonial detention. Despite her old age, Mrs. Koinange is still strong and is an inspiration to many both religiously and socially. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her love of the Nation and its people.

Joseph Njiraini Njoroge

Mr. Njiraini was born in 1935. He is an educationist of many years who has contributed to improvement of education standards in the country. He has actively participated in other community projects through Development Committees and the church in Kiambu District. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution towards educational development.

James Waiganjo Gitungo

Mr. Gitungo was born in 1928. He has selflessly served the community using personal resources to fight poverty and diseases. Mr. Gitungo has greatly provided leadership to Kenya Red Cross Society, Limuru Branch which in turn has helped the community in addressing poverty, disasters and has engaged the youth in meaningful activities. He is also a businessman who employs more than hundred (100) people. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his efforts in community development.

Stephen Ng’ang’a King’ara

Mr. King’ara was born in 1936. He has set the best example of a good leader in the spirit of a working nation. He has inspired many people in the society and used his personal wealth to contribute to charity. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his service to the society.

Lydia Muthoni Kabinga

Ms Kabinga was born in 1949. She has spent most of her working life rendering selfless service to the community. She is very active in guiding and counselling the youth and creating HIV/AIDS awareness. She runs an orphanage using her own resources. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her exemplary service.

Beatrice Njoki Maina

Mrs Maina was born in 1939. She served as Councillor of Murang’a town ward and as Chairperson of Murang’a Maendeleo ya Wanawake organization. She has also held leadership roles in school boards in the district and was a member of Mathioya Rural Empowerment Group. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her contribution towards educational and community development.

Miss Mwangi was born in 1944 in Murang’a District. She is a community development leader in Murang’a District. Miss Mwangi is active in the Kangema Land Board and also matters of women empowerment as a leader of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization in Kangema Division. She is also the Chairlady of Kangema Women Group, a position she has used to initiate projects beneficial to the community. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her active participation in community development.

David Mwaniki Ngugi

Mr. Ngugi was born in 1951. He has done a lot of community work including education, health and general development in Nyandarua District. He actively participates in community welfare at all levels geared towards improving the living standard of the community. Stephen Kipkirui Mabatu

Mr. Mabatu was born in 1954. He serves as a Chief and is very hardworking having maintained peace and security in his location. Mr. Mabatu has also managed contain cattle rustling along Narok and Transmara boarders through border peace committees. Rachel Chepngetich Langat

Mrs Langat was born in 1950. She is the Headmistress of Mogindo Primary school in Bomet District which has been leading in the district. She is also the Secretary of the giant Korokwony Women Project in Bomet constituency. She is very active in small scale self-help groups. Mrs Langat is a very hardworking lady who is also a church leader. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for contribution towards community development activities.

Kimunai Tireito

Mr. Tireito was born in 1937. He rendered dedicated service as a public servant during which time, he served as an Ambassador. He has continued to be a source of reference for advice by many in Nandi North District even in his retirement. Irene Kalamai

Mr. Ketter was born on 2nd October, 1955 in Koibatek District. He trained as a teacher at Kenya Science Teachers’ College in 1985 and currently serves as a Teacher in Koibatek District. M. Ketter has been serving as Chairman of Teachers’ Heads Association from 2002 to date. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in educational development.

Ronte Jackson Kaelo

Mr. Kaelo was born in 1954 in Narok District. He attended Adult Literacy classes and was able to achieve Diploma in Theology and thereafter attended Narok Bible College for four years. He has been instrumental in uniting the Maasai Pastors to fight for the welfare of the community and discouraged retrogressive cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation. He has devoted his time to reconciling leaders in the district especially church leaders and politicians. Mrs. Hellen Soile Kipetu

Mrs Kipetu was born in 1963 in Narok District. She is involved in women empowerment through Community Based Organizations campaigning against Female Genital Mutilation. Elijah Chemweno

Mr. Chemweno was born in 1916. He served as a Teacher and evangelist from 1939 to 1948. He was also a nominated councillor between 1949 and 1970. Mr. Chemweno also served as an Assistant Chief of Chepkorio sub-location of Keiyo District from 1954 to 1957 and was subsequently promoted to the position of Chief in 1957. Etitipu Atuko

Mr. Atuko has been very active in peace building and conflict resolution between Turkanas and Pokots. He has also been active in recovery of stolen stock which has

Bishop Ng’etich was born in 1948 in Bureti District. He is founder of the Kenya Educational and Development Organization through which he has helped to fund both health and educational facilities in the district. Gabriel Kiplangat Cheruiyot

Mr Cheruiyot was born in 1941 in Bureti District. He is a retired Civil Servant who has served the community selflessly by raising funds to help community projects in Bureti District. He also served as Chairman of various boards and is an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA). He also contributed to building of schools in the district. Mrs Nyarangi was born in 1954. She taught in various schools from 1976 to 1990 and was later promoted to a Senior Teacher in 1995. Bishop William Otieno Tiany

Bishop Tiany was born in 1940. He was involved in construction of primary schools, an orphanage, digging of boreholes and food relief activities in Migori District. He also operates a community hospital. He has worked tirelessly to promote education especially the free primary education in the district. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his efforts in community development.

Johnson Owiro Omolo

Mr. Omolo was born in 1947. He has promoted education by building private schools in Migori District and is also a member of several secondary school boards. In the late 1980s he joined his late farther in building a girls secondary school and later handed it over for free to the government. He is recognized for his efforts to promote girl child education and his commitment to support the vulnerable members of the society which has seen a number of orphans go through secondary education. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his immense role in promotion of education and service to the society.

Peter Mairura

Mr. Mairura was born in 1926. He served as a Senior Chief and a leader of the SDA church. He has initiated many local development projects in Ramasha location of Kisii District. He is a respected opinion leader and has participated in various leadership roles in the church. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in national development.

Justin Masese Mochache

Mr. Mochache was born in 19925. He served as a Senior Chief and is a prominent farmer in Kisii district. He has initiated various development projects and even in his retirement, he continues to actively participate in local development issues. He is an opinion leader and member of various school boards. He remains a role model to other

Mohamed Oyow Abdi

Mr. Abdi was born in 1948. He served as a Chief of Sangailu Location in Ijara District where he played a key role in brokering peace which was threatened as a result of influx of other clans. He has been aggressively involved in mopping-up of small arms thereby ensuring peaceful coexistence in the district. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for dedicated service.

Sofia Abdi Noor

Ms Noor was born on 13th October 1969 in Ijara District. She has been involved in provision of infrastructure in the field of education thereby increasing the level of literacy. She also promotes girl-child education through sponsorship of bright students and advocacy against female genital mutilation. She also helps to promote pastoralists agenda by attracting funds for them. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her service to the community.

Abdille Billow Sheikh

Mr. Sheikh was born in 1959 in Mandera District. He is an elder of a peace committee in Mandera District. He has helped to stabilize the local livestock market and incorporated traders from neighbouring countries resulting in a stable market beneficial to Kenyans in Mandera District. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his efforts in peace building and contribution to national development.

Abdi Sheikh Abdullahi Sheikh

Mr. Sheikh was born in 1954 in Mandera District. He is a peace elder in Mandera District and was in the team that brokered peace between the Garre and the Murule communities. He is also involved in arbitrating disputes between the Degodia and Gurreh groups. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his peace building efforts.

Osman Ibrahim Abdi

Mr. Abdi was born in 1948 in Garissa District. He served in the Ministry of Health from 1971 and 1983 and joined the Garissa County Council in 1992 as Vice-Chairman. He has been instrumental in peace building initiatives and encouraging inter-clan harmony. He has also led the efforts of recovering arms held illegally and has contributed to the prevailing peace in the district. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for dedicated service.

Jamleck Kimotho Mburia

Mr. Mburia was born in 1947 in Kirinyaga District. He is currently the Chairman of Karia Mixed Secondary School Board of Governors and previously served in senior capacities

Sahir Masood Mughal

Mr. Mughal was born on 21st June 1975 in Nairobi. He is a prominent businessman in Nairobi and has been partnering with government institutions in improving infrastructure. He is also involved in humanitarian and social activities including support of women’s education, relief activities and poverty eradication. He has also rendered immense contribution towards the Kenya-Sudan relations through trade and investments. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution to national development.

John Kimani Mwangi

Mr. Mwangi was born on 28th March 1967 in Nakuru District. He is currently the Director of Mt. Kenya Leadership School which offers training to University PE department, members of the disciplined forces and also state corporations. He was instrumental in the revival of the school without which the disciplined forces would be sending cadets and youth to outward school, Kilimanjaro in a foreign country. This has contributed to savings by the government which earlier required payment in dollars to a neighbouring country. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his valuable service rendered to the nation.

Banice Makungu M’mbusa

Miss M’mbusa was born on 16th August 1972, in Nairobi. She joined the Civil Service in July 1996, and was posted to the Department of Defence as a copy typist. She has risen through the ranks to her current position of Personal Secretary in the Office of the President. She has displayed exceptional brilliance and ingenuity in her duties, serving with devotion beyond the call of duty. She works late into the night and is always on call to fulfil national duty. She has managed a busy office with acumen, displaying thorough knowledge of management skills. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her commitment and devotion to duty.

Anicenta Ciamati Kiriga

Mrs Kiriga was born in 1958 in Meru District. She is a Community Development Worker and Chairperson of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake in Tharaka District. She previously worked at the Kenya Railways from 1980 to 1986. Mrs Kiriga formed Ntanira na Mugambo Group which is involved in the campaign against female genital mutilation and advocates for girls’ education in Tharaka District. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her contribution towards community development.

Susan N. Esimirdana

Miss Esimirdana was born in 1965 in Marsabit District. She is a Councillor in Marsabit County Council. She has worked hard in empowering pastoralist women through advocacy for girl-child education. Miss Esimirdana has also supported the youth by initiating micro-credit projects, sensitizing the community against negative cultural practices. Rev. Jeremiah Omar Karumbe

Rev. Karumbe was born in 1952 in Marsabit District. He served as a Headmaster for eight years and later joined the World Vision, Food for Hunger International and Pastoralists Shelter Organization. Rev. Karumbe is a tireless peacemaker and a good community development mobilizer and also a dedicated evangelist. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his exemplary service and contribution to community development activities.

Joseph Timothy Njoe

Mr. Njoe was born on 19th March 1930 in Meru South District. He served in various government departments including as Veterinary Clinical Officer, Probation Officer, News reader, film production and also chaired several committees locally and nationally. Through his tour company, Mr. Njoe has supported the tourism industry in Eastern Province and indeed nationally. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in national development.

Jasper Mwathani Mbaka

Mr. Mbaka was born in 1930 in Meru South District. He served as a Magistrate and also as Vice-Chairman of Electoral Commission. Mr. Mbaka has been instrumental in settling of land disputes in Meru South District. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his meritorious service.

Maxwel Muchera Rwigi

Mr. Rwigi was born in 1924 in Meru South District. He served as a teacher for thirty eight (38) years and rose to become a Headmaster. He has been active in development activities in Chuka Division. Mr. Rwigi has also contributed to the development of education standards in Meru South District. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his development record.

Mr. Kalua was born in 1969 in Kitui District. He is the Chairman of Green Africa Foundation and is active in environmental conservation, seed development and also in other social development activities in Kitui District. Mr. Kalua is also the Chief Executive Officer, 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Council. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his valuable service rendered to the nation.

Joel Yulu Maele

Mr. Maele was born in 1947 in Makueni District. He is a retired Chief who served the government for twenty (20) years. He has contributed to development in Makueni District through community mobilization. He also leads in the fight against corruption in the district. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his contribution towards national development.

Musa Nyongesa Makinia

Mr. Makinia was born on 1st January 1931 in Kanduyi Division of Bungoma District. During the struggle for independence he was arrested by the colonial government in 1953 and was sentenced to life imprisonment and was released in February 1960. He subsequently settled down and engaged in community development and was elected as Branch Secretary of Transport and Allied Workers Union, Western Province. He also held leadership positions in health, farmers’ cooperative and political fields. He continues to inspire many in Bungoma district and offers guidance and advice. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his role in the struggle for independence.

Stephen M. Maitha

Mr. Maitha is a pioneer Foreign Service Officer with a distinguished career who played a role in development of the country’s foreign policy and expansion of bilateral relations. He served diligently in major capitals of the world particularly during the cold war when he suffered the blunt of the cold war by being expelled from countries which were involved in activities not compatible with diplomatic status. He is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for his loyalty and dedicated service.

Margaret Njoki Mwangi

Mrs Mwangi was born on 16th August 1966. She is the Secretary to the Kenya Maritime Authority Board. Prior to this, she served as a State Counsel in the rising to become an Assistant Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Chambers. Mrs Mwangi successfully prosecuted the 1st Piracy case in Kenya’s Judicial history where ten accused persons from a neighbouring country who had demanded a ransom of USD50,000 were imprisoned. The case set a precedent as the court ruled that Kenya has jurisdiction to try a case of piracy committed in the high seas by persons of other nationalities. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her notable achievement.

Amy Lornah Onyonyi

Miss Onyonyi was born on 23rd October 1997 in Nairobi. She is currently a student at the Brookhouse Primary School. She was the youngest finisher of the Kenya Freedom From Hunger Walk in 2004 and 2005. Miss Onyonyi was also the highest fundraiser in the student category during the year 2006 Freedom From Hunger Walk and received trophies. She has visited Mbeere, Mwingi and Garissa districts to witness hunger situations and raised money from students and friends and through selling toys. She has been an inspiration to many children by participating in food security enhancement activities. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her noble efforts in the fight against hunger.

Cllr. Selina Sego

Cllr. Sego is a Councillor in Lessos Division, Nandi North District. She is also a businesslady who has assisted in building projects including churches, schools and also helping youth groups in the district. She is patriotic and a respected member of the society. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her role in national development.

Mercy Mwamburi

Mrs. Mwamburi was born on 20th July 1938 in Taita Taveta District. She is currently the national Vice-Chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake. She served as a teacher and educationist for thirty seven (37) years before she retired. She is also a farmer and a leader in the church in Taita Taveta District. Mrs. Mwamburi is an inspiration to the youth and women in the district. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her leadership role.

Sarah Nyavula

Mrs Nyavula was born on 8th May 1958. She is the proprietor and administrator of Foretu College and Bureau, Mombasa through which a community library and a computer and communication training were established. She is the founder of Mariakani Girls’ Centre which is a girl-child project. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her efforts in community development.

Amina Zuberi

Mrs. Zuberi was born on 29th December 1957. She is a community leader in Coast Province and and has established support organizations for children, women and is involved in human rights protection. Mrs Zuweri is a succeful businesslady who has created employement through her businesses. She is awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC- Civilian Division) for her role in community development.

Conjestina Achieng

Miss Achieng is a renown international boxer who has brought honour to the country through her successful boxing exploits. Conjestina took to the ring in 2000 after
