Agriculture in India has come a long way from the days of ‘ship to mouth’ to the days of ‘godowns overflowing with food grains’. There is a sort of revolution taking place in agriculture marketing, contract farming, value

chain, IT application and market spread, driven by the progressive government policies, aggressive play by institutions and the entry of large corporate. The role of these stake-holders in driving the growth and value added transformation of India’s farms sector is commendable. But, most of them do not get any recognition for their contributions to the nation.

Agriculture Today, as information provider and a knowledge based networking vehicle, has always been in the forefront in contributing to the growth in the farm sector. Responding to the need at the national level to recognize the contributions of various stake-holders in agriculture, the magazine took a step forward to reward and motivate individuals and organizations for their playing leadership roles in agriculture. The institution of Agriculture Leadership Awards in 2008 was one such significant step in this direction.

The Awards are presented annually in different categories to those individuals/organizations, who have made outstanding contributions in their respective fields. The National Awards Committee is headed by Prof. MS Swaminathan, Pioneer of India’s Green Revolution with a dozen persons of national eminence as its Members. The selection of Awardees is done through a two tier system. There are Awards Sub-Committees, headed by one member of the National Committee. All the applications and nominations received by the Awards Secretariat are put up to the respective Sub-Committees, which in turn recommend names to the National Committee for the final selection.

The Awards function will be held on 27, Sept, 2014 at the hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. The details can be visited at www.agriculturetoday.in. Kindly send nominations / applications before 20 August, 2014. Online applications / nominations are preferred.

In order to maintain the sanctity and stature of these Awards thorough screening is done by eminent experts. To make the process more authentic the Awards Committee also seeks informal views from a large number of people related directly or indirectly with agriculture and verify the claims of the applicants from the relevant sources.

The selection of awardees will be made through a two tier system. The Award Sub-Committees, headed by one member of the National Committee, will screen and recommend to the National Committee for finalizing the names.

All the applications and nominations received shall be screened to ensure that they satisfy all the conditions laid down by the Awards Secretariat. These will then be put up to the respective Sub Committees.

The second stage will be circulation of the entries by the Sub Committees, which will evaluate the entries based on agreed parameters and recommend three names for each Award to the National Committee for the final selection.

Based on the feedback received, the National Committee will make a list of the winning entries in each category. The high standard set for the Awards in the previous years will be maintained. The applicants and sponsors may therefore check the level of contributions made by the winners of previous Agriculture Leadership Awards, before sending or sponsoring nominations.
