AUV MAGNETOMETER MODULE Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Solutions for Offshore Survey and Inspection

UTEC now offer a 500m depth rated Magnetometer module, which fits as the nose cone of its modular Gavia AUV. This provides ferrous metal detection in an autonomous form capable of detection of pipelines, cables and ordnance.

The magnetometer is a Geometrics G-880AUV module with a self-oscillating split-beam Cesium vapor total field magnetometer as the primary detection sensor. This is coupled to an Applied Physics model 539 high-speed digital 3-axis vector magnetometer to measure vehicle dynamic/orientation.

The module provides: » Co-registered side-scan sonar » Co-registered sub-bottom profiler (optional) » Processing/ corrections » Diurnal drift compensation » Offset corrections based on side-scan sonar processing » Along track corrections based on sub-bottom profiler » Combined sensor dataset merge » Anomaly selection

FEATURES & BENEFITS » The AUV provides an acoustically quiet and stable platform which can be located close to the desired target to deliver optimised data results significantly better than those obtained using conventional towed sensor solutions

» There are a wide variety of geophysical and environmnental sensor options available

» The unit has a modular design, and can be transported easily by air, and is ideally suited to operations in remote areas

» The small system footptint (less than 3 metre length) and low weight (120Kg) means the AUV can be deployed from vessels of opportunity, providing a high level of deployment flexibility.

» With a 1000m depth rating, the AUV is at home both in really shallow work areas, as well as continental shelf regions

FLEET SPECIFICATIONSUTEC’s fleet of Teledyne Gavia AUVs are positioned using a high accuracy Inertial Navigation System (Kearfott T24 or Ixsea ROVINS 540). Surface positioning is achieved using a DGPS position solution. The Inertial Navigation System is aided by a DVL (Teledyne RDI 1200kHz workhorse navigator system) for sub sea positioning.

The following survey sensor module options are available:

» Digital camera with strobe (HD colour) » Obstacle avoidance sonar (Imagenex) » Multi-beam echo sounder (Geoswath+ 500kHz) » Dual-frequency side-scan sonar (Marine Sonic Technology 900/1800kHz)

» High accuracy depth sensor (Keller 33X) » Sound velocity (Valeport Mini-SVS) » Sub Bottom Profiler (Teledyne Benthos Chirp III)

APPLICATIONSThe system has wide applications across the offshore Oil & Gas and Renewable markets:

» Route, site, pre-lay and post-lay surveys » Debris clearance surveys » Inshore and offshore pipeline inspections » Bathymetric surveys » Scour surveys » Wind Farm surveys » Platform, rig and structure inspections » Search and rescue operations » Under ice applications » Scientific research » Seabed deformation surveys

» The high accuracy Inertial Navigation System with DGPS positioning and DVL aiding ensures optimum positioning performance

» Using an AUV solution enhances safety as the deployment vessel does not need to be close to the work area during survey operations. This is particularly beneficial when working within exclusion zones of existing platform structures or areas of ordnance.

» The battery modules are portable and easily swapped out, facilitating extended missions and efficient data transfer

» Multiple AUVs launched from a common platform allow up to 30 hours of data collection in any 24 hour period
