Autoportal India’s take on Tata Bolt – A virtuous vehicle
Bolt is the latest premium hatchback from the house of the domestic automaker Tata Motors. Bolt
was unveiled at the Auto Expo in 2014 and it was officially on the roads early this year. Tata Bolt is
an excellent value for money offer with its novelty in terms of design, drivability and connectivity.
Here are some more details on the newcomer.
Tata has developed the Bolt hatchback along with its sedan form - the Zest under the Horizonext
strategy. They are built on the same platform as that of Vista and Manza and do carry the looks of a
typical Tata car. It acquires a stunning presence with stylish edges, curvy body and an attractive
forward swooping front fascia with a smiley grille. The smoked headlamp housings and fog lamps get
a large chrome embellishment. The blackened C-pillar, a strong shoulder line and ORVMs with turn
indicators add to its sportiness. The rear gets flame-shaped tail lights, a centre fog light on a black
plastic cladding, high mounted stop lamp and number plate strip in chrome. The panel gaps are tight
and consistent and the Tata Bolt imparts a sturdy look.
Step inside, and one is welcomed with an airy and spacious black painted and silver ruled interiors.
The seats are comfortable for 5 people and offer good support at right places. A chunky 3 spoke
steering wheel, infotainment system, gear knob, on door release handles and detailed air vents are
fixed on a black curvy dashboard. The plastics used and the overall fit and finish are impeccable. A
single drawback here is that there are no much storage spaces inside the cabin. Besides the boot
space is limited to 210 litres.
Tata has offered the Bolt with some innovative features like EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted System)
with ‘Active Return’ function, speed sensitive power steering, ABS, Cornering Stability feature and
dual path suspension system. The Harman infotainment system offers a long list of options like
Bluetooth connectivity with voice integration, SMS read outs, touch operated AC controls and a
picture viewer, to name a few. The stereo has eight speakers which results in brilliant audio output.
Coming to the engine specifications, Tata Bolt is available in four petrol and three diesel variants.
The 1.2-litre REVOTRON petrol unit is capable of delivering a peak power output of 85 PS along with
a maximum torque of 140 Nm, while the 1.3-litre Multijet VGT diesel version delivers a maximum
power of 75 bhp with 190 Nm torque. Both the engines are powered with a five speed manual
transmission gear box.
At a reasonable price of Rs 4.45-7 lakhs, Tata Bolt is a promising rival to Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Sail,
VW Polo, Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo.
