Auto Collision Tips - Staying Calm and On Task Will Get You

Back on the Road Quickly

By: Steven Schwartzapfel

An auto collision can be an emotional experience. You may be shaken up and not know the first thing to do. To ease your frustrations, here are 5 tips on what to do right after being involved in a car crash:

Auto Collision Tip # 1

First, make sure everyone is OK. If medical attention is needed, call 911 immediately. If medical attention is not needed and the vehicle is drivable, put your hazard lights on and safely move your car so it’s not causing danger at the roadside.

Auto Collision Tip # 2

Exchange information with all parties involved in the crash, including witnesses. Be sure to get their name, address, driver’s license number, insurance information and vehicle information such as the make, model and year for all cars involved.

Auto Collision Tip # 3

While at the scene of the accident, it is important to obtain as much information as possible. Take photographs of the damages to the vehicles, the accident scene and any other relevant evidence of the accident.

Auto Collision Tip # 4

It is common for people to be shaken up and nervous after an accident, but whatever you do, don’t admit fault or responsibility for the accident.

Auto Collision Tip # 5

Consult with an experienced personal injury attorney before signing any documents relating to the accident. Having a personal injury attorney can be crucial as they will investigate the accident and communicate with the insurance providers to make sure you receive the benefits you deserve.
