The best thing about training to be a Divemaster?
You are training to “work” in one of the most enjoyable jobs in the world. That´s not the best part either, the “training” is great fun! You will complete a minimum of 60 dives at Byron Bays Julian Rocks dive site – one of the most bio diverse sites in Australia, attrac-ting lots of large marine life. Dolphins and Whales often shadow the dive boat out to the site! When the Xtreme Gap team paid a visit, we were in the water for 2 minutes and we had a leather-back turtle swim right up to us (Check out the video!) and saw plenty of huge Bull rays!

Stage 1: OPEN WATER
In this first stage of the program, you will learn recreatio-
nal diving theory through classroom & pool instruction
on campus, and then apply this knowledge in 6 open wa-
ter dives conducted in the company of Julian Rocks' vast
array of marine life! In just five days you will be fully cer-
tified to explore the awesome underwater world of fish,
coral reefs, shipwrecks, caves, and more. You will also le-
arn essential procedures for diving safely and responsibly
while experiencing this totally new and exciting world!
Duration: 5 Days, 6 Dives . You van dive up to 18m.

Included
Stage 2: ADVANCED OPEN WATER
In the second stage of the program, you will learn the skills you
need to take on more challenging diving situations, including de-
ep dives, night dives, underwater navigation, search and recove-
ry, and more!
This course consists of at least 30 hours of instruction and multi-
ple dives suited to your interests within the categories of: Un-
derwater photography, Boat diving, Night diving, Drift diving,
Underwater navigation, Low visibility diving, Search & salvage
diving, Shore diving, Deep diving, Buoyancy diving, Com-
puter diving, Marine identification
Duration: 5 Days, 10 dives You can Dive up to 30m & Plan Dives
Stage 3: RESCUE DIVER
Essential skills for Dive Leadership. In this stage of the programme you will learn the skills to effectively manage many di-
ve emergencies, a benefit to you and to everyone you will dive with throughout the rest of your life!
Diver stress and the resulting panic are the leading causes of diving accidents and emergencies; through this course you
will be equipped to prevent such emergencies when possible and handle any emergencies that may occur. You will learn
the theory behind recognizing stress and effectively dealing with it and then put that theory to practice in real-life scena-
rios. This is a highly interactive course emphasizing teamwork. You will benefit firsthand from the 20+ years of experience
that Byron Bay Dive Centre and its instructors have in recognizing and handling diving emergencies - this is one area whe-
re the skills that you learn must be second-to-none!
Duration: 5 Days, 6 Dives YOU CAN: Effectively manage potentially life-threatening dive emergencies.
Stage 4: FIRST AID & O2 PROVIDER
Essential skills for Life. A prerequisite for the completion of Rescue Diver certification, this internationally recognised and
Australian Workcover approved First Aid course will provide you with invaluable emergency response knowledge. You
will learn skills to approach, assess, treat conditions, and administer O2 when necessary - essential skills for diving rescue
as well as other first aid situations you may encounter in any walk of life!
Duration: 5 Days, 4 Dives YOU CAN: Perform Basic Life Support and first aid response procedures at home and the work-
place (necessary for Rescue Diver certification).
Stage 5: DIVEMASTER
Transforming the Adventure into a Career. In the final sta-
ge of the programme, you will receive a wealth of practical
experience and knowledge in the dive industry. Through a
finely tuned blend of academic sessions mixed with practi-
cal application you will achieve the status of Dive Master,
the first step in turning your diving interest into a rewar-
ding career! At this point your presentation and instruc-
tion skills will be honed, you will have individual and
group assignments, and you will take the Dive Master exa-
mination at the end of the course.
The programme emphasizes flexibility in its teachings, so
that you will be able to easily adapt your theoretical and
practical knowledge to any dive operation anywhere in the
world. You will have the required experience to confiden-
tly enter the diving industry and to lead dives, work on di-
ve boats, and teach qualified courses.
Duration: 10 days + 2 weeks practical and the required
amount of dives for DM certification

The
facility
The Dive school is a purpose-built facility on 1000m2 of
land right in the heart of Byron Bay!
The school is one of the largest and best-equipped dive
centre's in all of Australia and includes:
A large in-ground pool
multiple lecture rooms and briefing areas
a wet gear storage area
equipment service workshop
full retail facility with a wide range of stock
and an ENTIRELY self-contained diver's lodge!
This means that you will improve your diving skills from a
spacious, comfortable base with well-maintained equip-
ment. Further, Byron Bay Dive Centre regularly invests in
the quality of the diving facility, the safety of the equip-
ment, and finding the best diving instructors available.

Under the Water
Byron is blessed with a unique distinction of the
most easterly point of Australia, and it is at this
point that tropical water of the Coral Sea collides
with the nutrient-enriched water of the southern
Tasman Sea.
Don't like cold water? Don't worry, the average water
temps here are: 26 ° Celsius in-ground pool, 20-27 ° Celsius ocean .
This special blend provides the perfect environment for tropical
species to swim alongside more temperate-suited species. While
you're diving in Byron, you are likely to see:
Manta Rays
Leopard Sharks
Turtles
Wobbegong Sharks
Eastern Blue Gropers
And a wide array of schools of pelagic fish, including snapper,
trevally, sweetlips, batfish and more!

After the Programme
You will graduate the Academy as a fully certified Dive Master, ready to unleash your potential as a dive leader on live-aboard boats or tropical dive centres & resorts, or in dive retail outlets!
Further, the skills that you will learn in this program will serve you well in careers out of the water as well! You will be well-suited for any industry position that requires confidence, problem-solving, and leadership skills. The Australian Divemaster Academy Programme will give you an advantage over your peers in an increasingly competitive business world.
