ObituariesBrenda Marie Fix, PhD, RD, March2014, was a research scientist at AbbottLaboratories until her retirement in2007. She earned bachelor’s, master’s,and doctoral degrees from The OhioState University, where she workedfor 18 years as a dietitian in nutritionand diabetes research. Fix publishednumerous articles on nutrition anddiabetes over the course of her career.Emerita Alcantara, PhD, RD, May
2014, was a member of the Academyfor over 50 years. She served as vicepresident and director of nutritionresearch at the National Dairy Councilfor many years, as well as holding po-sitions in local dairy councils. Alcantaraalso worked in scientific and regulatoryaffairs for the Wm Wrigley Jr Co. Dur-ing her career, she was also a publishedauthor of nutrition research on topicssuch as cancer, dairy, and food science.
