What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Audience feedback evaluation

Audience feedback.

I wanted to get feedback from a male and female who were within the target audience age I decided on. This first clip is from a 22 year old female so she sits within the middle of the age I wanted to appeal to...

This feedback was very helpful because it showed me, much like the questionnaire, that the audio plays one of the most important roles within this trailer and the effect of stops and starts adds drama.

I found it very interesting that she did not believe there should be an age limit on this trailer however she did explain how certain films appeal to different people and “action films appeal to all ages”. This reminded of films like James Bond and Die Hard, both of which have a very popular old and young fan base so therefore, her feedback made me realise I probably shouldn't put an age limit on the trailer.

The way she answered the last question really made me think because the whole time I was saying how there is synergy through the use of character, style, font etc throughout the three projects. However, she thought the projects worked well together because the difference of the “perceived personalities” in them all. This made me see my project in a different light- the actor does look more gentlemanly in the magazine and then looks almost dangerous in the poster and then the trailer combines these two perceptions.

Next feedback

Next I got a male of 17 years old, so nearer the bottom of the target audience, to answer the same questions...

Amazingly, he also agreed with the target audience being to restricted and that people of older generations watch action films if It is a ‘personal preference’. This feedback has been so helpful because it has made me realise I was being too limited when deciding on my target audience and if I had made a few adaptations I could have appeal to a much larger audience.

...

He disagreed with my first feedback in the most effective shots. He believed that the close up shots were more effective than the low angle shots suggested by the first clip. I introduced a lot of close ups however, did not use many low angles so the ones I used obviously made an impact. If I was to do this again I would use more low angles to show dominance of character which can then be reinforced by the close up showing emotion. However, he did agree on the ground of the audio being the most effective part of the trailer. This feedback has made me realise the absolute importance of audio and sound within a trailer.

I like that both of the feedbacks I got stated that the trailed provokes mystery and doesn't tell us much about the storyline because this was my main aim. However, in the second feedback the interviewee stated that he would have liked to have known more. Personally, I think if I gave any more away it would not be a teaser trailer.

Peer FeedbackMost of my audience feedback was from my peers in class as seen from the questionnaire in question one of the evaluation. This questionnaire feedback proved very helpful much like the audio feedback. From both of these I was able to concur the importance of a dominant lead character, the influence the audio has, correct balances of action and calmness and the importance of synergy. If I was to do this again I would do a more general questionnaire much like the one I don't for the first evaluation question because I found it all very helpful and it made me understand what I needed to develop and why.

A lot of the feedback I had, I received verbally in class. The whole time I was constructing my promotional package my peers were always there to offer constructive criticisms whenever I needed them to. This made it a lot easier for my to made adaption's along the way rather than having to change a lot when I would have thought to have finished. When I was editing on Final Cut Pro I asked everyone what they thought to the breaks in the music to reveal the diegetic sound because I didn't like it. However, all of the feedback I received about it was positive and therefore, I left it in and it ended up being tension building and something that makes the trailer individual.
