What days do audiences go to the cinema?• It is about 77% of the UK population go to the cinema at least 6

times each year, with 49% being male and 51% female.• People aged between 4-11 tend to go with their family at the

weekend.• Then there is the 16-24 year Old's who go on a Friday and

Saturday evening and Sunday during the day.• People who are middle aged (30-50 year olds) would usually go

What are the most popular genres?

• The chart to the right of the screen claims that action is the most popular genre, followed by adventure closely behind and then comedy.• Romance is at the bottom of the chart, I

believe this is because there are so many huge successful romance films that the recent ones do not compare too. For example, The Titanic and The Notebook, compared to The Lucky One, who even starred Zac Efron.

What was the top film in each of these genres?• Action: Die Hard – 1998• Adventure: Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens - 2015• Thriller: Prisoners – 2013• Comedy: THE HANGOVER - 2009• Drama: Forest Gump – 1994• Sci-fi: Alien – 1979• Fantasy: The Lord of the Rings: The fellowship ring -2001• Family: Toy Story - 1995• Crime: The Godfather – 1972• Romance: Titanic - 1997

How do audiences hear about films?

• Audiences hear about films through the distribution of the film, which is another word for marketing.• Audiences hear about the film through social media including:

Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.• They also hear about friends through friends and family,

therefore it is kind similar to rumours and Chinese whispers. • Audiences also hear about films through merchandise,

including t-shirts, lunchbox’s and other things which have the film posters and pictures of the film on specific items and merchandise which is sold in the shops.

Do audiences prefer US, UK or other nationality films?• Most audiences prefer US films as they are usually mainstream

films. Mainstream films are much more popular and have the best quality and high image picture.

• UK films are independent films therefore they are usually a documentary film. Documentary films usually target older audiences, who are people who don’t usually go to the cinema.

• Nationality films are mainly in other languages compared to the English language. However, the English language is the universal language of the world as most people know it. Therefore, when there is a film released in a language other than English most people aren’t automatically engaged or attracted to it.

Do audiences like 3D films?

• 3D films are engaging and interesting for viewers to go and watch a film as it is a different experience to witness.• 3D films are lacking in popularity and people are not

watching them as much now. This is because not many people enjoy wearing the glasses because they are uncomfortable to wear and some people say the picture becomes blurry.• Some people also complain about the 3D film giving them a

headache as it needs a person to concentrate throughout the film and the 3D picture they are screening.

What other ways to audiences watch film aside from the cinema?• Audiences watch films on DVD, the TV, on demand, on the

computer and on programmes such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Who do audiences go to the cinema with?• Audiences go to the cinema with family and friends or any

other relatives or partners.• Some people even join this club called a ‘Secret Club’. This

is when there is a group either on some type of social media, where they will organise a date to meet up and wear the same clothes and try and figure out what film they are going to watch as it is unknown. It turns out to be a social event for people who love films.
