Welcome!Dear Friends,

I am thrilled you could join us this evening for the 2018 Fur Ball Auction and Dinner! At this time last year, I had only just come on board as Homeward Pet’s Executive Director, but I remember being blown away that night by the outpouring of love, compassion and warmth extended to the homeless animals in our care. Tonight, I know, will be another evening I couldn’t possibly forget.

Over 500 of our fellow animal lovers have come together this evening to pledge their commitment to fight pet homelessness: we’re here because we believe that every animal, young or old, deserves another chance at finding a devoted home. We’re here because we understand that animal welfare is our collective responsibility. And we’re here because we want to make a real difference for homeless animals—both today and for years to come.

Tonight is about the cats and dogs in Homeward Pet’s care. It’s about making a life-changing difference for the most vulnerable animals in our community and advocating for animal welfare. It’s also, of course, about raising money to turn our passion and energy into successful programs where abused, neglected, and forgotten animals will thrive.

I hope tonight inspires you, and you leave here knowing the impact your effort and contribution has on homeless animals.

Jim Keller, Catalog ReaderHomeward Pet Adoption Center’s Operations Director, Jim Keller, wears many hats. Not only does he keep the day-to-day operations of the shelter running, but with the help of his staff, he has done so with record-breaking adoption numbers. Jim is also the “voice” of Homeward Pet

in many ways. He is able to communicate some of the cats’ and dogs’ stories to our supporters through his writing—and tonight, through his voice. Through Jim, we hope you’ll realize the fun, passion and dedication of Homeward Pet staff, volunteers and supporters.

Medical Illuminations MI-550 Surgical Light

As Homeward Pet has grown to care for nearly 2000 animals a year, we’ve outgrown our current lighting setup for dental cleanings, extractions, and exams. Upgrading to a professional-grade overhead surgery light reduces the risk of injury to animals and veterinarians during examinations and other procedures. With our current setup, a veterinary assistant often needs to provide more lighting during a procedure. By freeing up assistant time, more animals can be seen by our clinic and thereby be ready for adoption. The MI-550 light has a 50,000 hour-rated LED life, which means it will last us for years to come while consuming a small amount of energy. The 11-foot reach provides the best illumination and maneuverability for our veterinarians.

Jorgensen Aspiration/Suction Unit

The health and well-being of our animals is always our top-priority during medical procedures. During high-risk abdominal surgeries, fluid may need to be removed from a surgical site. An aspiration suction unit will complete this task in a fully sterile manner, greatly decreasing risk of infection. Its use also shortens surgery time, which reduces time animals spend under anesthesia.

*Once Shelter Essentials and Behavior Team goals have been met, any additional funds raised will help with the completion of both projects or go to the direct care of the shelter animals.

Pay It ForwardHelp us find great, permanent homes for our current and future shelter residents looking to start the next chapter of their lives. Your donation will help cover the adoption fee of a homeless cat or dog as well as their care during their stay with Homeward Pet. Because of your support, once we’ve found their perfect match we’ll be able to send that animal home with their adoption fee already paid. The new family will then be able to devote more to the care of their new furry friend.

Behavior Teams & Kennel EnrichmentThe shelter can be a stressful environment. The Behavior Teams work with animals with behavior challenges, anxiety and lack of socialization through positive training sessions, agility and play groups. Our Kennel Enrichment Program offers in-kennel stimulation, including music, scent therapy and more. Tonight you can support our efforts to grow these programs to spend more time helping the animals who need it most.

15 Your Pet on the Homeward Pet VanHomeward Pet’s very own van is in need of a new model for the hood! The van was purchased in 2005 and is a staple for the work we do. Each week, our Shelter Manager transports cats and dogs from

other rescues to Homeward Pet, helping municipal shelters that are flooded with strays reduce euthanasia rates and volunteer-run, foster-based rescues move animals to more urban parts of the state for adoption. Auction Rules General Rules All items must be paid for and removed at the end of the evening. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final. Homeward Pet Adoption Center has attempted to describe all packages correctly, but neither we nor the Auctioneer warrant nor represent and shall in no event be held responsible for the correctness of descriptions of warranties on the goods or services sold. Buyer represents that he or she has inspected goods and accepts all responsibilities. No description or statements made in the catalog or made orally at the auction shall be deemed a warranty or assumption of liability. Homeward Pet Adoption Center reserves the right to withdraw any item from the sale before final call for bids.

Silent Auction Rules Your catalog and bracelet contains your bidder number. All items have an adjacent bid sheet. Enter your bid by legibly writing your bid number opposite the desired bid amount. If you really want an item, write your bid number in the box labeled “Guaranteed Bid” and it is yours! Once a guaranteed bid has been entered, bidding on that item is closed. The silent auction will be closed in three separate sections. Each section’s closing time will be announced. At that point, all bidding on that section ceases. The closing bid circled by an auction official constitutes the winning bid.

Live Auction Rules Your bid card will be on your dinner table. To bid on an item, raise your bid card so that the Auctioneer can acknowledge it. You are the successful bidder when the Auctioneer says, “SOLD” and acknowledges your bid number—this acknowledgment constitutes a legal contract to buy. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have sole discretion to determine the winning bid or to re-offer the item in dispute.

Payment All sales are final. For items that are jointly purchased by two or more parties, payment must be made by the signer/designated bidder who shall arrange for reimbursement from the co-purchasers. Paper receipts are not required for item pick-up and will not be provided unless specifically requested. All receipts will be emailed within 1 week of the auction.
