  • Retrograde Planets

*Retrograde planets are nearer the Earth than at any other time in their orbit. This may suggest they are closer to the core of the self at this time.*Mercury and Venus which are between the Earth and Sun will be approaching a conjunction with the Sun during their retrograde phase.*All of the other planets outside the Earths orbit will be opposing the Sun when retrograde.*The opposition to the Sun suggests the potential to be acutely aware of the planetary energy. It challenges the conscious sense of identity.*In the middle of the retrograde period the planets beyond the Earths orbit will be exactly opposite the Sun while Mercury and Venus will be exactly conjunct the Sun.

Retrograde planets have an important role in shaping personal identity and confidence as well as encouraging the formation of a strong and healthy ego. During the retrograde time their energy is heightened and more in focus. The middle of the retrograde period suggests an important time when the meaning of the retrograde period comes to consciousness.

Mercury: The thinking and communicative patterns may be inhibited, but more often there is a sensitive awareness of ones own thought processes which may develop into a unique

  • communicative skill later in life. The abstract may be easier to grasp than the concrete.

Venus: The individual may not be forward in displaying his or her feelings and affections. There may be a tendency towards an aesthetic lifestyle due to the heightened awareness of the social processes and need to have time alone. Often the individual chooses relationships that are unique or unconventional.

Mars: The individual may not appear to be competitive; however they usually place high goals on themselves and therefore compete with their self-made standards. There is an innate sense of the Martian energies (anger, frustration etc) that need their unique channel of expression. There is a greater ability to contain the aggressive instincts and a heightened sense of drive and urge to succeed at any cost. Mars retrograde is very reminiscent of Mars in Scorpio; contained energy.

Jupiter: The individuals capacity for growth is nurtured best in unorthodox ways. Opportunities may come in a seemingly reverse order and perhaps out of a situation others have rejected. Their beliefs are usually borne out of their unique life experiences and adventures and generally differ from their family of origin.

Saturn: There is a tendency to be vulnerable to authority figures and often strong fears of rejection and a sense of instant guilt. The father figure is often weakened or in need of balance in the individuals psychological make-up. Strong commitment to goals and responsibility in life is the flip side. A greater sense of autonomy and need to be in control is often evident.

Uranus: When retrograde it may heighten the urge to rebel and reform. There is a strong sense of willfulness and independence and a need for freedom that may manifest later as a leader of dominator.

  • Neptune: When retrograde the potential contact with the imaginal, creative and spiritual realms is heightened.

Pluto: It stresses the latent power issues and transformative energies, but the individual also has the potential to contain powerful emotions and feelings.

The first hit of the transit when DIRECT brings awareness to bear on the situation. The second hit of the transit when RETROGRADE suggests an internalisation and reflection on the process while the third and final hit of the transit when DIRECT calls for action. Think Thesis, Antithesis and then Synthesis.

    Lunar Nodes

*The Northern pole of the axis is seen to be forward focused, aligned with solar qualities, while the Southern pole is rooted in the past, whether that be cultural, ancestral, karmic, familial or personal. *The two points where the orbit of the Moon around the Earth intersects the Ecliptic. *The Nodal Cycle RETROGRADES through the zodiac in 18.6 years*One complete Zodiacal Cycle of the Lunar nodes is 18.6 years*Lunar Nodes transiting one sign of the Zodiac every 18.6 months*Lunar Nodes RETROGRADE on average one degree every 18.6 days*The Mean Node is the average daily movement of the node which is 3 minutes per day.*The True Node is the accurate astronomical position*On average the Node will transit one house of the horoscope in 18-19 months bringing more awareness to this polarity in the chart.*Accompanying this transit will be 3-4 eclipses that fall across the polarity of houses near the North and South Nodes.

  • *The North Node suggests that this environment is where more conscious understanding and development is taking place. The South Node highlights issues and concerns of the past that need to be resolved and disseminated towards the new focus emerging at the North Node.

    Eclipses

*The Sun and Moon must be near the Nodal Axis for an eclipse to occur. *The New Moon near the Nodal Axis heralds the Solar Eclipse, while a Lunar Eclipse must happen when the Full Moon is near the Nodes. *Eclipses sweep the house polarities and their effects may last until the next eclipse or 6 months. Their impact is felt most strongly 24 hours before until 12 hours after.*Eclipses will only happen near the Nodal Axis.*If the New Moon is within 15 degrees and 21 minutes of the Nodal Axis then a Solar Eclipse must occur. *If the Sun and Moon are within 9 degrees and 30 minutes of the Nodal Axis, a Lunar Eclipse will happen.*In a natal chart, if the Sun is near one of the Nodes then the individual has been born near an eclipse and will be sensitive to these cycles in their lives.*The Metonic cycle suggests New Moons repeat every 19 years within 1 degree and one day.*There is a 75% chance if the New Moon was eclipsed this will reoccur on the same degree 19 years later.*When the eclipses repeat in the Metonic Cycle they will be within one degree orb and of importance when conjunct an angle, luminary or inner planet. Eclipses conjoining outer planets will affect a generation.*The closer the eclipse is towards the equator (or Node) the more obscured or total the eclipse will be.*Each Solar Eclipse belongs to a specific Saros Series*Each series has a beginning (at either pole), middle (the equator) and an end (the other pole). Once one series ends, another begins*There are 38 Saros series, 19 occurring at the South Node and 19 at the North Node

  • *Each eclipse in the series is 18 years 9-11 days apart and therefore about 10 degrees later in the Zodiac.*Each Saros series will last approximately 1,280 years and includes 70-72 eclipses*During a Solar Eclipse the Moon obscures the Sun, suggesting that the rational, controlled and objective nature is eclipsed by the feelings. Therefore an eclipse could indicate the release of what has been repressed, denied or trivialised. Reason is replaced by feeling.

    Intercepted Signs

*A Sign that does not appear on a House Cusp, will also have its opposite sign intercepted too; Polarities.*They occur by how Astrologers divide up the House System*Can occur at any latitude, however more so the further North and South of the Equator*Interruption, developmental block, something not flowing in the right direction. *Closer to the Equator the Signs will rise equally, the same with the Houses.*Table of Houses tend to not produce House Cusps above 60* Latitude as the distortion is too great*At the Equator the horizon is very equal. Due to the Earths tilt on its axis however, the further North or South of the Equator we move the more distorted is our view of the sky.*Intercepted Signs need work, as they can be harder to express.
