This report represents Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts & Culture's responses to Charting Impact,a joint project of BBB Wise Giving Alliance, GuideStar USA Inc, and Independent Sector. 1. What are we aiming to accomplish?FilAm ARTS adopted a 10-year Success Equation or Theory of Change in 2008 that states: FilAm ARTS builds communitythrough presentation, collaboration, and celebration of the cultural heritage of the Filipino American populations withinCalifornia's multicultural landscape. And this is achieved by accomplishment of the following combined goals: A) Create acommon ground space for diverse types of self-expression and innovative programming; B) Engage the Filipino Americanimmigrant community as well as create opportunities for leadership for next generations; C) Maintain and grow a strong andsustainable organizational structure through engaging experts and internal leadership; and, D) Operate in a financiallysustainable manner and create diverse, healthy revenue streams.

2. What are our strategies for making this happen?A) To create a common ground space for diverse types of self-expression and innovative programming - the strategiesinclude: 1) To ensure diversity, FilAm ARTS maintains the program engagement of artists from multiple artistic genres. 2) Togive equal access, FilAm ARTS maintains the engagement of artists from different experience levels: Emerging (less than 5years), Mid-career (5-10 years), Established (more than 10 years). 3) The organization offers a number of programsthroughout the year in different genres. B) Engage the Filipino American immigrant community as well as createopportunities for leadership for the next generations - the strategies include: 1) Recognizing multicultural dimensions of thecommunity, communications are directed towards specific target markets, i.e. immigrant, senior, next generation youth, etc.2) Leadership development through internship and mentorship programs on board and staff levels. C) Maintain and grow astrong and sustainable organizational structure through engaging experts and internal leadership - strategies include: 1)Continuous leadership development and education on all levels of engagement: board, staff, and volunteer. 2) To maintaindiversity and balance in the board leadership, FilAm ARTS continues to identify and engage leaders from outside theorganization's realm. D) Operate in a financially sustainable manner and create diverse, healthy revenue streams -strategies include: 1) Maintaining diverse sources of income that include: grants, donations (monetary and in-kind, andearned income from programs. 2) Developing individual donation streams. 3) The organization continues to maintain goodstanding in its operations and transparency in its finances.

3. What are our organization's capabilities for doing this?NETWORKS: - FilAm ARTS has access to over 500 artists in 9 multiple disciplines: music, dance, performance, visual arts,literary arts, traditional arts, film & media, arts education, as well as presenters. - FilAm ARTS is the fiscal receiver forSCPASA - Southern California Pilipino American Student Alliance comprised of 15 - 20 collegiate student organizationsacross Southern California and Nevada that engages 300-400 youth volunteers every year. - Over 250 businesses fromCalifornia, Las Vegas, Florida, New York, and the Philippines participate in the BUY PINOY outreach campaign and at least100 entrepreneurs exhibit at FPAC. - The organization has over 100 partner organizations ranging from community-based togovernment, non-profit to for-profit, arts to non-arts such as health, education, social services, faith-based, and others. ARTS& CULTURAL PRODUCTION: With 24 festivals under its belt, the organization has wide range of expertise in arts productionthat includes: EDUCATION / HUMANITIES: The organization has institutional knowledge (curriculum, resources, systems)and access to education / field experts in cultural arts education. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Over 20 years inexperience, FilAm ARTS has developed a curriculum and system for leadership training emerging leaders in hands-onmulti-disciplinary arts, cultural negotiation, and community work. MANAGEMENT CAPACITY: Through the production of 24festivals, the organization has experience, capacities and systems in both non-profit administration and businessmanagement.

How will we know if we're making progress?Goal A: Create a common ground space for diverse types of self-expression and innovative programming - is measured by:1) The number of artists in traditional arts (music, dance, visual), visual arts, theater, contemporary performing arts, martialarts, film/media, culinary arts, and arts education. 2) The number of artists from levels: Emerging (less than 5 years),Mid-career (5-10 years), and Established (more than 10 years). 3) The percentage of audiences who say they were satisfiedby programming. 4) The number of programs offered by FilAm ARTS annually. Goal B: Engage the Filipino Americanimmigrant community as well as create opportunities for leadership for the next generations - is measured by: 1) thepercentage of local Filipino communities participating in the programs 2) The number of program volunteers and thepercentage of retention 3) The percentage of artists who credit FilAm ARTS for breaking into mainstream markets or access4) The number of audiences and the percentage of retention. 5) The number of community partners and their percentage ofretention. 6) The number of media impressions or hits Goal C: Maintain and grow a strong and sustainable organizationalstructure through engaging experts and internal leadership - is measured by: 1) The percentage of board involvement inGive/Get and funds raised. 2) The percentage of paid staff who are satisfied with their jobs. 3) The number of professionalvolunteers and the percentage of their retention. 4) The percentage of board director or staff who were once volunteers(measuring the leadership pipeline). 5) The number of social enterprise partners. Goal D: Operate in a financially sustainablemanner and create diverse, healthy revenue streams - is measured by: 1) The funds raised through earned income: exhibitorrental, concessions, art sales, and others. 2) The funds raised through individual donations. 3) The cost efficiency of eachprogram. 4) The retention percentage of sponsors and vendors / exhibitors.

5. What have and haven't we accomplished so far?In 2013, FilAm ARTS achieved its Success Equation through: A) FilAm ARTS was able to create a common ground spacefor diverse types of self-expression and innovative programming. This was measured by: Increased number of artistsengaged from 141 in 2012 to 169 in 2013: 57 emerging artists, 40 mid-career, and 72 established artists. From audiencesurveys, 64% expressed satisfaction with programming. There were 11 programs presented in 2013. B) FilAm ARTS wasable to engage the Filipino American immigrant community as well as create opportunities for leadership for the nextgenerations. This was measured by: the number of community partners engaged = 108, the number of program volunteersmaintained at 400, and 6 interns were engaged. Also 3 new members joined the board. C) FilAm ARTS was able to maintainand grow a strong and sustainable organizational structure through engaging experts and internal leadership. This wasmeasured by: 100% of board members were involved in fundraising; 100% of the staff were satisfied with their jobs; 100 or90% of professional volunteers continued to be engaged; and 90% of board members went through the leadership pipelinestarting as volunteers. D) FilAm ARTS was able to operate in a financially sustainable manner and create diverse, healthyrevenue streams. This was measured by: 1) Increase in earned program income: $118,871 in 2013 from $111,991 in 2012.2) Better cost efficiency of the program from $10.79 per person to $10.68 per person. 3) Individual donations at $5,927. HIghpercentage of retention for sponsors: 90% and vendors: 80%.
