2. Scenes From Movies!

  • .Romeo and Juliet (1996).50 First Dates
  • .Ferris Buellers Day Off.Rosemarys Baby

3. Scenes that inspire me for my own opening sequence

  • A scene from the 1996 remake of Romeo and Juliet.
  • The use of fast cross cutting between the two characters builds up a lot of tension.
  • Camera movement and speed is used to portray what the characters might be feeling.
  • .The camera is never still,
  • it shifts side to side .
  • Quick sharp shots of the Montague boys, the camera always moves about when filming them.
  • Done to show that they are in a state of panic.

4. Inspiring because

  • A useful camera technique that easily portrays the atmosphere of a scene and what the characters might be feeling. It inspires me to use this technique to portray characters in different ways.
  • A good representation of what the characters are like.
  • Camera flows smoothly with the movements of the character, as the character of Tybalt himself is seen as quite smooth and cool.
  • Close-ups of their eyes to reveal to the audience they are about to fight .
  • The denotation is that it is simply
  • a close up of their eyes.
  • The connotation is that they are
  • challenging each other.

5. Hinting to the audience

  • The close-up shot of this hints to the audience that there will be some kind of explosion or fire. This is the connotation of the close-up.
  • . This is useful,
  • when wanting to
  • reveal something
  • to the audience
  • before its actually
  • happened.

6. Opening scene from 50 First Dates

  • The same story is told by different characters in different scenes.
  • The characters finish each others sentences although they are not in the same place in the movie.
  • The denotation is that different people are talking about the same.
  • The conversation flows between the different characters. This gives me ideas of how to link people together in my opening sequence.
  • The connotation of this is that, they have all been through the same thing and it automatically links all the characters together.

7. The Museum scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off!

  • .The camera zooms closer and closer to Camerons eyes and
  • the painting. .This is the denotation of the scene.
  • . The connotation is that the closer he looks
  • the less he can see of the
  • painting
  • . The scene reflects on the
  • characters fear that, the closer
  • people look at him the less they see.
  • until it becomes nothing.

8. Inspires my opening sequence because

  • This scene is inspirational because its such a clever way of portraying the characters deep feelings, using different camera shots.
  • Zooming can be very effective.
  • It inspires me to use different camera shots to send a message to my audience.

9. Rosemarys Baby-Final Scene

  • Close up of hand reaching into crib
  • Draws the audiences attention
  • to what she's doing.
  • .
  • Allows imagination to run wild.It never shows what
  • Making the audience uneasyshe sees only her reaction.. Close up of
  • Creates tensionRosemarys face,
  • emphasises her shock
  • and horror at what she sees.

10. Conventions of horror in the scene

  • As she sees what her baby is, music begins to play
  • loudly, causing excitement and thrill.
  • From her face expressions we know she sees something horrific.
  • This could perhaps terrify the audience.
  • .Props like a black cot reveals to the
  • audience something evil lays there.
  • .Rosemarys baby blue dressing
  • gown makes her appear quite
  • vulnerable and innocent.
  • A victim.
