In Asia, schooling, teaching and learning are undergoing major changes as a consequence of global movements. The forces of industrial modernity and globalization have led to major shifts in educational policy and governance, curriculum and pedagogy, and in the everyday lives and practices of students and teachers. In this era of globalization and regional integration, individuals and communities need to work together for the greater good of our global society and the benefit of mankind. Education is the backbone of a country’s economic success and social cohesion and is important at every level.

In order to promote the sustainable development education in the region, the “Asia Education Leaders Forum” will be organ-ized for top managements from educational institutes across Asia to learn in-depth knowledge, extensive experiences, visions, and lesson learned of a prestigious panel of world-class speakers. Panel Discussion: “Implication and Implementation of Seven - 21st Century Skills: How We Effectively Build a Better Future of ASEAN Education?”

The Southeast Asian share a similar emphasis on human resource development as a key in developing the whole nation to enter the knowledge-based economy and global environment. Our global society has become much more reliant on creative thinking, innovation, and new technology. Employers in the 21st century need employees who possess the knowledge and skills to be successful in this society. Therefore the framework for 21st Century Learning Skills have been created by focusing on the “Seven C’s,” skills which include: critical thinking; creativity and innovation; collaboration; cross-cultural understanding; communication; computing technology; and career learning. However, the successful program of learning 21st century skills also requires the good practices in 21st century teaching.

The quality assurance and assessment system is the way to evaluate and assess the quality of the education at each level. Due to social, economic and political changes, Asia education has been challenged by ‘new’ social demands such as accountability, quality improvement, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Consequently, discussions concerning educational quality increasingly emphasize on the diagnosis and assessment of quality. Quality assessment is meant to demonstrate accountability of the institution and, therefore; plays an important role in current developments in Asia education.

Learners with disability experienced great difficulty in gaining access to education. Very few special schools exist and they are limited to admitting learners according to rigidly applied categories. Special Education is a specialized area of education which uses unique instructional methods, materials, learning aids, and equipment to meet the educational needs of children with learning disabilities. Special Needs Education can empower learners with disabilities to fully participate in their communities. Learning is most effective if it is tailored to the learners’ individual needs.
