Today, many communities across the United States are facing critical challenges related to health. While the days when premature deaths caused by infectious diseases are long behind us, hundreds of thousands of Americans still die each year from preventable diseases.
This project seeks to leverage existing infrastrucural assets within the Phillips West neighborhood into components that foster healthy living and better lifestyle options.

This project explores the implications of emerging transportation technologies on the city of Duluth. A collaboration with students from the Architecture program, this project examines the impact of bringing high speed transit to Duluth, Minnesota.
Our proposal studies the potential to integrate multiple transportation strategies into the city fabric. Centralized mass transit is coupled with car and bike sharing hubs strategically deployed throughout the city grid.
Responding to industrial projections about the evolution of the internal combustion engine, alternative modes of transportation were explored to meet the demands of an increasing number of commuters arriving into Duluth.

Situated in North Minneapolis, Victory Memorial Drive is a 2.8 mile long linear park that is connected to the Minneapolis Grand Rounds network of parks and trails. Upon its completion in 1921 it was dedicated as a memorial to the servicemen and nurses of the Twin Cities who lost their lives in the first World War.
In 2003 the Minnesota Legislature passed a bill designating “Victory Memorial Drive” as a state historic district.

The Mississippi River banks are home to many industrial communities. Often, these communities lack adequate infrastructure that enables access to the water front. In this case, the re-purposing of a private marina into a pubic park with a living system will be used to filter contaminants from the river while also providing opportunities for the residents to get closer to the water.
A series of terraces are proposed as a living machine to slow down and filter runoff. These berms will be connected through a series of cat-walks and platforms.

LED lights connected to water quality sensing relay technologies will interact with visitors to inform them of the current water conditions as they radiate at various gradients of colors. Their arrangement will extend through the lines of the cells of the “living machine”.
