    Gov. Chris Christie spoke at the Des Moines Register soap box at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

    Chris Christie said Saturday the U.S. must grow itsmilitary to provide a deterrent to Russian and Chineseexpansionary ambitions.

    Speaking at The Des Moines Register Political Soap-box at the Iowa State Fair, the New Jersey governor andRepublican presidential candidate said he would re-build our military, send a clear signal to Russia and toChina that we dont want a war, but we are not going toallow them to tread on the United States of America.

    Christie called for conducting military exercises inEastern Europe and re-installing U.S. missile defensesystems to Poland to deter Russian President VladimirPutin from further expansion.

    Mr. Putin needs to understand theres going to be apresident who will not put up with his interventions

    around the world, Christie said.Some of the loudest applause for Christie came

    when he called for increasing the number of active-duty troops, Navy ships and aircraft in the U.S. ar-senal.

    President Barack Obama has been the weakestpresident of foreign policy we have had in my life-time, he said. He makes Jimmy Carter look strong.

    Christie gave no stump speech on the soapbox andinstead spent his entire time answering audiencequestions.

    MIDDLETOWN Its the kind of commute an artistmight dream of a sunrise trip from New Jersey toNew York, with beams of light reflecting off the Man-hattan skyline.

    Most of the 200 commuters on board the Bravest,one of NY Waterways three ferries operating out ofBelford, dont seem to notice the scenery. On thismorning, the majority are plugged into their smart-phones or napping.

    What the passengers do pay attention to is the

    clock: Its 7:15 and the Bravest has docked in lowerManhattan, almost exactly 45 minutes after it left andprecisely on schedule.

    If these commuters had taken the train, theywouldnt arrive at Penn Station until after 7:30 a.m.

    Is ferry trip a viable NYC commute?
