ICA – Art Conservation (ICA) was the nation’s first non-profit regional art conservation center. From the very beginning more than 60 years ago, ICA’s mis-sion included the dissemination of knowledge about cultural heritage preservation. For nearly as long, ICA has also been committed to providing quality educa-tional experiences for students interested in careers in the arts.

Today, through our art@work program, ICA combines interdisciplinary student experiences that bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Science) education to life. ICA provides lab tours and onsite classroom programs to area schools, and also selects one high school student for our senior experience- a unique opportunity to work in all four conservation labs.

Our conservation lab facility is located in the Hinge Town neighborhood of Ohio City, just across the Superior Avenue bridge from Downtown Cleveland. The historic building is fitted with four conserva-tion laboratories and a climate controlled art storage facility. ICA offers a range of services to museums and other collecting organizations, governmental agencies, corporations, and the general public, including: on-site conservation, storage, custom crate building and display work, surveys and inspections, studio-quality photo documentation, educational programming, di-saster assistance, grant collaboration, and publications for both a professional and general audience.

The Education Outreach Officer and conservation staff work with institutions and the public to determine preservation training needs and develop a range of educational offerings to address those needs. Regular programming includes workshops, symposia, and lecture series, additionally the Education Division provides outreach services including surveys, disaster response assistance, and grant assistance.
