FESTIVAL OVERVIEW Artscape is America’s largest FREE arts festival. In 2011, Artscape will celebrate its landmark

30th year (July 15 – 17, 2011). This annual event features 100+ arts and craftspeople from across the country; visual art exhibits both on and off site; incredible live concerts on four outdoor stages; a full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, fashion, film and classical music, hands-on projects, children’s entertainers, multiple street theater locations; and a delicious, international menu of food and beverages.

An ideal platform for reaching the lucrative Baltimore-Washington area consumer market, the festival offers a broad range of niche sponsorship opportunities where your organization experiences face-to-face interaction with its target audience in a fun-filled environment. VISUAL ARTS

Baltimore Sculpture Project The Baltimore Sculpture Project, an outdoor sculpture exhibition, will enliven street medians and parks in the Station North Arts & Entertainment District, on Mt. Royal Avenue, and other locations within Baltimore. This exhibition is open to all artists and will open in July 2011 and run through April 2012.

Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize Returning for its fifth year in 2011, the Sondheim prize awards a $25,000 fellowship to an artist working in the Baltimore Region. The fellowship is designed to help support the artist and develop new work. The seven finalists for this award will have work installed in The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Artists’ Market A haven for art lovers, the Artists' Market returns as an opportunity for individuals to not simply admire art work but purchase it as well. More than 100 gifted arts and craftspeople from across the country showcase their paintings, ceramics, fiber, jewelry, metal, glass, and other mediums in juried booths. New in 2011! – Fashion exhibitors showcase an array of original garments and accessories, offering affordable style for all.

GameScape Added in 2010! - A creative showcase of video games and technologies from developers and local universities. GameScape will be located inside MICA’s Bunting Center.

Rabbit Hole New in 2011! - Rabbit Hole is a new Artscape environment situated in Pearlstone Park located at Preston Street between Howard and Cathedral streets. This new environment will be a major site for visual arts, offering artistic opportunities for artists working in various mediums. With loose inspiration drawn from Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland, Rabbit Hole will include interactive artist installation spaces, performance and sculpture to create an environment that will convey a sense of wonder and fascination for the entire family. Artists will be asked to propose ideas with themes of the impossible, the fantastical, dreams, nightmares, the unexpected, the nonsensical, playful and the outlandish. Visual elements to consider: playing with scale and proportion, perception/illusion, nature and games.

1982

New in 2011! - 1982 is a new Artscape environment that celebrates the year Artscape came into existence. To mark the 30th Anniversary of the festival, we will be going back to the 80s and will transform the Charles Street Bridge into a time and place that will look, sound and feel like the era by incorporating visual art, music, fashion, graphic design and performance that is inspired by the colors, iconic imagery and culture of the 80s. Inspiration is encouraged to be drawn from music, icons, fashion, film, TV shows, fads or events. What totally inspires you…Hair Bands, Preppies, Mr. T, Atari, Valley Talk, Break Dancing, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Duran Duran, Kenny Rogers?

Visual Art Exhibits

Juried exhibitions and unique indoor and outdoor exhibits from local and national artists.

Film: Maryland Film Festival Maryland's burgeoning cinema community reminds us that films are indeed art. Fans gather to watch cutting edge flicks at The Charles, and engage in Q&A with filmmakers after screenings.

Art Cars / Art Car Lounge Back by popular demand, the Art Cars exhibit features kinetic sculpture at its finest. Festival goers gaze with amazement at each car’s drastic transformation. The fun continues at the Art Car Lounge, with furniture constructed from vintage car parts.

DIY @ Artscape Artscape supports the emerging DIY trend with an entire section of the site dedicated to these hip and talented new wave crafters. With 80% or more of the work priced under $100 and all of the work represented by the artists who created it by hand, this juried section will invite a wide audience to browse, buy and be inspired.
