Welcome to Week One Art- Portraits. Throughout time people have painted, drawn, sculpted or photographed

portraits as a way of recording themselves and those around them. Portraits can show our true selves or an image we would like to convey.

They can also ‘speak’ of the time in which they were painted. One of my favourite portraits is Self-Portrait by Jean-Michel Basquiat.

I like the idea of the drawing over the photograph to show what could be underneath. Have a go at the tasks below and upload some of your

fantastic efforts to (there will be an email address, not yours but a new art one).

Look really closely at these portraits. Talk to a family member about what you see.

What differences /similarities do you notice?How do you think the people in these portraits are feeling?

How do these portraits make you feel?Do you have a favourite portrait/photograph of a member of your family?

Activity 2Draw a face without looking. Close your eyes and draw a face. It looks funny!

Draw a face using a continuous line. Use one long line. Take your pen off the paper when you finish your drawing.
