ARROWS TO AEROSPACE!

Once again, members of our parish pulled together to provide a float entry in Bellevue’s annual Arrows to Aerospace Parade. This year’s float was our interpretation of Jonah and the Whale. One of the things that made this float special was the hard work of our youth who spent many hours papier-mâchéing the whale. A special thanks to Kristi Smith who helped with the float’s logistics, Jen Wilson who coordinated the team who marched in the parade and who provided the fliers we handed out, Steve Smith and Lisa Weilandt who helped Fr. Tom and Sharon assem-ble the float, and all of your who donated candy and water in support of what has become a regu-lar effort to help keep the people of Bellevue aware that we are still here. Do you have an idea for next year’s float? If so, let us know so that we can begin as early as possible pulling things to-gether.

Lots of ―blood, sweat and tears‖

went into the construction of our

float…..but look at the amazing

final results!

School Supplies Donated!

The thoughtfulness of our congrega-tion in taking part in gifts of school supplies has made those first days of school happier for many chil-dren. A big THANK YOU to our Red Hat ladies for their help with this

outreach project. They intended to fill four back-packs for elementary students, but by the time the last minute donations and supplies were counted, they had enough to fill eight backpacks. Judy Dar-rell led the Red Hat ladies in gathering and filling the backpacks, and with the help of fellow Red Hat-ters Charlotte Austin and Winnie Clouston the bags were finished and taken to Central Elementary Schools in Bellevue

Labyrinth

Abby Culp will begin fundraising this month for her Gold Award Project. This award, in Girl Scouting, is the equivalent to the Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts. Like her brother Alex, she has decided to take on a major project to benefit the life of our parish. She is going to install a patio brick Labyrinth in our front yard that will be accessible to the parish and neighbor-hood alike. The Labyrinth is not a maze but an an-cient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a mean-dering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth repre-sents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. The cost of this pro-ject is significant and the vestry encourages our par-ish to be extremely generous in their donations.

Public Relations

Are you someone who notices what goes on around them? Have you ever fancied yourself a reporter? If so, you could be just the person we are looking for. We need someone to help us stay better connected with the Bellevue Leader and someone who will be able to help us get the word out about the things we are doing. One thing we noticed as we looked back over the last 50 years; was that our parish activities were in the local newspaper quite frequently. As we strive to reconnect with the surrounding commu-nity, this would help us out tremendously. If you might be interested, please contact Judy in the church office.

Werner Park

As most of you know, this summer we undertook a fundraising project that had several members of our parish working in concession stands at the new Werner Park. While the final num-bers are not yet in, it looks like we will

clear about $1,500 across four events. Special thanks to Sharon Jones for organizing the CHS teams and coordinating with the people at the park to ensure the funds received were correct. To all of you who spent many hours standing on your feet, handling cash, passing out food and drink, smiling and laughing together, thank you for all you have done. Our success would not have been possible without you. If you were un-able to help out this year, watch for sign-ups next year.

Our Volunteers at Werner Park!

Thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped at the concession stands at the baseball games. Some nights were busier than others, but it was fun and the fellowship was great! Our volunteers were: Linda Blinston, Dave Conley, Marcia & Doug Adams, Kitty & Dave Kentsmith, Jan Sin-ram, Charlotte Austin, Lori Stevens, Joan & Dean Olander, Kristi & Steve Smith, Jeff Stangl, Vince Cummings Sr., Joan & Stuart Wood, Doug Clark, Vic Culp, Karen Gray, Chris Brockington, Alex Culp, Donna & Jim Trojanowski, Stephan Jones, Rob Ryan, Greg Scarbrough, Chris Darrell and Kathy Buser. Several of these people worked more than night, so special thanks to them.

THIS AND THAT

Third Sunday Ministries

Third Sunday Ministries is a community service program where the parishioners of Church of the Holy Spirit collect items for different charities. The first Sunday of the month the charity will be announced and on the third Sunday the collec-tion box will be placed in the parish hall. All items collected will be taken to the chosen char-ity and distributed through their programs.

The charities will include the Nebraska Humane Society, Toys for Tots, Sienna-Francis House, the food pantry, the Eastern Nebraska Veteran’s Home and others. We will also collect items for the church mission trip to the Rosebud Indian Reservation and cash donations for Episcopal Relief and Development.

The CHS Endowment Fund board is pleased to announce the next phase of building a long-term financial security plan for our parish, the establishment of the Holy Spirit Legacy Soci-ety.

This program will serve two primary purposes – providing church members with a ready avenue to remember CHS and its ministries in their estate planning, and appropriately rec-ognizing those who make the commitment to this calling.

While some details are still to be finalized, so-ciety members will be commemorated through name plates displayed underneath a lithograph of the church building, symbolizing the foundation that society members repre-sent for the parish. Church members who have either already included CHS in their es-tate plans or choose to do so during the re-mainder of 2011 will also be designated as ―founding members‖ of the legacy society.

The Endowment Fund board is very enthusi-astic about the Holy Spirit Legacy Society and its prospects for helping CHS to fulfill its mis-sion for the future, continuing God’s work through our hands. We encourage anyone with questions about the legacy program, or any parish member wanting to start the en-rollment process, to contact Fr. Tom or an-other board member.

Our Vestry needs your help in completing two projects before them. First, they are collecting contact information about the ministry teams here at CHS. The goal is to publish an up to date information guide for members and visitors who would like to know what ministries are active in our parish and how they can become involved in them. If you are not contacted by your liaison over the next week or so, please contact Brian Wilson or Vic Culp who will gladly take your in-formation and pass it on to your liaison. The sec-ond project the vestry is working on is the devel-opment of the 2012 parish budget. Please visit with your liaison to let them know the financial needs of your ministry in 2012.

Attention Ministry Team Leaders
