Welcome

Leeuwin Barracks and Karrakatta Community House have

combined to assist Army Art to host this art show. Approximately

eighty talented Western Australian artists’ work is displayed and

available for purchase this year.

This exhibition prides itself on promoting and showcasing all things

Western Australian, including the works of art, the food and wine.

It is also a way of bringing together a group of volunteers to help the

community.

Enjoy the exhibition, enjoy the work on display and remember the

purchases you make will help raise funds for this year’s beneficiary

the Recreation and Sport Network.

BENEFICIARY

Recreation and Sport Network’s vision is that all people have the

opportunity to participate in welcoming communities. This

dynamic, boutique Western Australian organisation has been

working with communities and people living with disability since

1986. What started as a pilot project has now grown into an

organisation that works towards this mission: to enrich the life of

people living with disability by facilitating inclusion in recreation,

sport and civic life.

The organisation is now addressing inclusion through several

programs and projects that aim to support not just people living with

disabilities, but the communities that we are all part of. Inclusion of

people from all backgrounds, and the diversity that arrives through

inclusion, is what makes our communities great.

CONDITIONS OF SALE

Sales Books will be closed during the official opening at 8:00pm

All exhibits are for sale - a red dot denotes an item has already been

sold. Should you wish to make a purchase, please advise the sales

officials in the aisles. A red dot will be placed on the work. The

sales official will accompany you to the correct sales table where

your purchase will be completed and then you will be issued with a

receipt.

EFTPOS, Mastercard and

Visa credit card facilities are available.

Deposits:

If a buyer does not have the full purchase price of an item a non-

refundable deposit of 25% may be paid. The balance must be paid

as follows:

Deposit paid Friday night - balance by 11:00am Saturday

Deposit paid Saturday - balance within three hours

Deposit paid Sunday - balance by 3:00pm Sunday

ALL ITEMS REMAIN ON DISPLAY UNTIL THE END OF

THE EXHIBITION

Your purchase will be available for collection between 4:30pm and

5:30pm on Sunday, 15 August. Please remember to bring your

receipt. We do not have the facilities to store items after this time.

If not collected, items will be donated to a worthy cause.

Army Art – Background

The first Army Art exhibition and sale in 1974 was organized by the Special Air Service Regiment Ladies Auxiliary and was held in the Assembly Hall at Campbell Barracks in Swanbourne. A lone piper from the Army Reserve Pipe Band welcomed guests and wine from a local vineyard on Wanneroo Road was served. The aim was to cover the cost of an unsuccessful function that ran at a loss. To assist with advertising, signs were made on scrap pieces of timber and nailed to light posts leading to the Barracks. A sheet with the words “Army Art” painted on it was hung outside the Servetus Street entrance advertising the show. Since then the event has been organized and hosted by a team of volunteers with close connections to the Defence Force. Now the aim is to fundraise for Western Australian charities and the Army community and to provide a venue for established and emerging artists to exhibit their work. Everything displayed at Army Art is for sale. Artists pay an entry fee and a commission when their work sells and tickets are sold to attend the opening night. Today the majority of funds raised goes to a different beneficiary is selected each year. Past beneficiary include Legacy, War Widows Guild, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, Princess Margaret Hospital for Children’s Research Foundation, GROW (WA) to name just a few. The focus remains on the Western Australian community – artists,

beneficiaries, organisations, and, on opening night, locally produced wine

and food, all done by volunteers without who this show could not continue.
